Great tips! I struggle with keeping my bow on the strings when I'm at the frog and have to go to up. My guess is I subconsciously want to avoid the ugly sound 😂
It has nothing to do with the looseness of the frog. A lot of violinists don’t understand the basic physics of the instrument. The bow stick normally tilts to the front slightly (which tilts more when changing bow at the frog). As the player adds pressure onto the bow stick, it pushes the stick down toward the string, and not the hair. If the bow stick tends to be more softer and flexible then the temporary deformation/misalignment of the bow stick will be more visible. Some older bows are even made to have the bow stick crook toward the left as a “pre-load,” so that it can compensate this deformation. This property is also less visible on stiffer materials like fiber glass or carbon fiber bow.
@ViolinMechanic It's feels like my bow is super long and it's hard to get to the tip without really stretching but I'm sure it's just me since im not very good😅
Hmmm could be a few things.. maybe you’re not putting enough weight at the tip? Could also be the positioning of the bow, make sure you are at the sound point and that your bow is parallel. Some bows are just so poorly made that no matter how much rosin you put, it won’t sound. Let me know if these help.
@@ViolinMechanic yeah i think its the last one.. it kinda just cuts off making any audible noise at around the halfway point. thanks for responding though some of the bigger channels you have a better chance winning the lottery than getting help.
My octaves sound a little like this: AAAAAAAAUAUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHH
Great tips, thank you for sharing!!
Glad you enjoyed!
Thank you!)
Hope they were useful!
Great video! And good tips as always. I need to try moving the bow with just the fingers.
Glad you enjoyed:)
It could be the angle, but is your bow alittle crooked? Might want to have it checked out with your luthier.
Great tips on how exercises tho

Haha you’d be surprised all the little subtleties your brain will make in order to avoid the “bad sound”.
couldnt help but notice... is your bow crooked slightly at the tip?
Good observation, but it’s not the tip, the frog is a little loose so it kinda shifted all the hairs slightly which made the tip look crooked.
It’s an old unrestored French bow, I liked how agile it was, but I will definitely have it looked at.

@@p1nkwat3r81 I’m the opposite, my arms feel too long so I have to angle myself so I don’t hit the other person while bowing 😂
