Hey Donly. Thx for the comment. How are you liking it. I keep picking it up again and again just so much character. It pairs with a vox style amp extremely well.
Been looking for a first electric guitar. Wanted something versatile, because it will be my only electric guitar for awhile. But didn't want the usual Les Paul or Fender clones that you see everywhere. The Gretsch Electromatic Jet turned out to be *exactly* what I was looking for. Great price. *Superb* quality, considering the price. Not the same old guitars that you see every beginner with... I had to special-order it because I need a left-handed guitar, and no one stocks the left-handed ones, apparently. So it'll be a few weeks before it gets here, but I'm very much looking forward to it. I had to get the G5220, not the G5230, because they don't make the G5230 in lefty form. Only difference is the lack of a Bigsby (which I didn't want anyway -- don't need that on a beginner's guitar) and the Broad'Tron instead of the Filtertron pickups. (I can always upgrade to Filtertrons later, if I feel the Broad'Trons aren't good enough.). But despite those differences, the videos I've seen sound like it has pretty much the same tone. I really like it!!
Hey. Thx for the comment. As I was reading this I was thinking “Oh god don’t get a bigsby if you’re a beginner, it’s a nightmare to restring!) but you didn’t so great move. Also kudos to you for wanting something left of centre. I think it’s so important that you feel your guitar extends your identity / personality. It’s a banger of a guitar. Great choice.
Great guitar. Great review. Great playing. Great channel. Subscribed. I have a Gretsch Jet Club modified with CTS pots and black top filtertrons. I love it. Loved your playing. Looking forward to watching your other videos.
Hey Kiwistu. Thx so much mate. I really appreciate the kind words and thx so much for the subscription. Incidentally all the music in this video is from my band Kampala. So you might enjoy us. And ironically our second single is out today!!! If you want to check us out you can here: youtube.com/@kampalaband4938
Character in spades😎👍 Gretsch adds great textures eh?😎👍 Very expressive tones on tap, of which your music makes great use of 😎👍 Enjoy your compositions and tones 😎👍❤🖖
I like your music, mate! I haven’t heard anything that simultaneously catchy and trippy in a long time. Have ya got any more? BTW; I watched yr video because I just bought this guitar ( but in airline silver), and am still curious what other rockers are doin with theirs. I was really surprised to see how alike our styles are. Fun to watch and informative. Had I seen this before I purchased it, I would’ve purchased it again. Have you sorted the tuning issues with your Bigsby? This is mi first Bigsby, so I’m a bit anxious about this.
Hey Rip. Thx for the comment. Not sure if you checkout out my bands SoundCloud? I think it might be linked in the description. It’s SoundCloud.com/bandkampala. Really glad you like it. We’ve unfortunately been on hiatus since lockdown began. Hoping to have our debut out later this year. Lockdown depending. Yeah the timing issue has gotten a lot better I think maybe the strings just needed to settle in.
Ha! Thanks Matias. I love Superunonown and some of down on the upside. Not mad on their earlier stuff but those 2 albums have been a massive influence on all the bands I’ve been in. Really appreciate that thanks. Especially as I didn’t actually play any Soundgarden
Oh by the way if you are a Grunge fan maybe subscribe. I play a lot of grunge throughout my demos. It’s the music I came up on. I have a whole video dedicated to Pearl Jam sounds.
@@TheGuitarEffect dude!! My wife got me the guitar for my birthday!! Really beautiful guitars!!! I did some upgrades tho, some gotoh locking tuners and schaller bridge and makes a huge difference!!!!
I have this guitar, and yes I had some Bigsby issues. This guitar is pretty dang amazing though. Those pick ups sound great, for every style. I just play it straight through a Vox ac10 tube amp , no pedals. From clean styles to hard rock. That Vox is a good match for this guitar.
Hey Aaron. Thx for the comment. I’ve found the bigsby has kind of settled in now hand is pretty stable. I just love it his guitar. I take it out for a different flavor on a few songs. Nothing sounds like it. Unbelievable value
Love those ambient tones man! Been wanting a Gretsch for like 10 years and somehow I keep buying Teles instead. Maybe now is the time. Thanks for putting all the effort into this video to give us a good quality review! I am still debating getting this or the more expensive Japan version. I found one used from 2010. It doesn't look much different. Not sure if it's worth 4 times the price!
Hey Sean. Thx for the comment. I’m f you are used to teles (as I am) I think this is sort of in the same family tonally. Like it is very Hifi Sounding the way a tele bridge pickup is. It’s a very good alternative to a tele for something similar but slightly different
Hey Sean. I made a video last week. I took 2 weeks off over Christmas. However my band has kicked off now since the pandemic ended and it’s taking up a lot of time i previously would’ve dedicated to the channel. I’ve a second video on the strymon sunset coming this week. And I got a new Yamaha Revstar today
@@TheGuitarEffect Oh weird! When I looked it seemed as if if had been over a year. I didn't see all those new ones. Keep up the good work man! Your audio quality is so good.
Hey. Thx so much for saying that. This is the only video where people have only commented on my playing. You are the third person to do so. It’s very weird. I’m presuming people like the song in the demo at the start? This video is all music from my band Kampala. If you like the playing in this video you’ll probably like our band: RUclips.com/@kampalaband
Great guitar, great review, great playing. May i ask what kind of overdrive was used for this sounds? Oh and your channel seems to have a nice mood. Subscribed!
Hey Biff Oi. Thanks for the kind words and the sub. Very much appreciated. So the Mosky deluxe preamp I’m using for overdrive. Very affordable and really great transparent overdrive pedal.
Hey Inspirational History. Thx for the comment. So that track is a song called “home away from home” by my band called Kampala. It’s really odd that you say that as a good few people including DJ’s and bloggers have quoted early U2 about this band and the band I was in previous to this band. Both of which I was the primary songwriter. The thing is I’ve never really been into early U2. I don’t dislike it but I wouldn’t actively listen to it like. I like Achtung Baby alright but nothing before that particularly. And yet people keep saying it. Really odd! Hi from County kildare!
Like inspirational U2 came to my mind too, but for me maybe more like the atmospheric sounds from some of the Joshua tree album . Really nice playing , I love the gretsch sound anyway right from Chet Atkins ,Eddie Cochran, Duane Eddie, George Harrison, Bryan setser up to acdc. Limerick here subscribed now. Good luck with the guitar and the band.
Hey Gerry thanks. It’s pretty solid but does go out if you overuse the bigsby. It took a while to of playing it to get it to settle in after I bought it but I’d comfortably gig it now
Thanks for the reply ...have almost bought the 5230T several times but the tuning stability been the issue, so great point 'play it in' ...now the shops are opened will take a trip the music store see how it plays as it sure sound superb
Actually mate I can’t answer that. I’ve never actually gotten round to trying a big body Gretsch. I know the pickups are common to both though and they have a very distinctive sound.
Hey. Hx for the comment. Well I can’t speak for anyone else but in my case I’m using the guitar the way I want to use it. Like I think its character suits the use case I’m using it for which happens to be a slow atmospheric song. That’s all really.
@@TheGuitarEffect I bought one of the G6120-CMHOF 1954 Chet Atkins limited guitars. Fell in love right away (my first Gretsch in 52 years), One of the Duo Jets is on my RADAR as a birthday present :). I'm thinking the Sparkle Jet in Ocean Turquoise coming out next month.
Hey man. I’d say that Chet Atkins sounds great. Completely different from any other guitar. This is great but I doubt it holds a candle to a proper American built Jet. Enjoy
@@TheGuitarEffect Finally pulled the trigger and picked up that same model that you're playing there. The Cadillac Green is gorgeous and I haven't picked up any of my LPs since I brought it home! Hey. I don’t generally rent to hit the bigsby very hard when I use it. Primarily because it’s quite stiff compared to a regular fender trem. When I use it lightly it’s fine. If I Bend it hard it does rent to put the guitar a little out.

@@TheGuitarEffect Thanks its top of the list now

How do these differ in sound to the bigger full body gretsch guitars ?

Why when demoing in a gretsch people feel the need to put tons ov reverb and various excessive delays on it? They have loads of character dry.
