Elon was lonely growing up and experienced a lot of beatings which caused him to shut down his emotions. Kimball is the younger child. Younger children grow up watching their older siblings and thinking about them. Ergo, empathy.
Its not all about genetics. Sometimes behaviour can be explained by experiences.
