    • @liz9284
      @liz9284 4 месяца назад +24

      @@mindlanderfirst, there’s really no reason to be so antagonistic in your “it’s a useless statement” reply, I don’t know how anyone expects to have a conversation by being this way. On to the point-any time you have “art” that positions itself as a reaction to current social conditions, it becomes propaganda. Propaganda is biased and partisan, and according to Alan Locke (in commenting on the Harlem Renaissance), “perpetuates group inferiority”. It’s reactionary, and it seeks to force a single perspective down the throats of anyone who views or hears it. Art, however, stands on its own, it doesn’t need the context of current social conditions to make sense. It used to be that you could watch a movie and the overarching themes would make sense in any given time or era, that you could understand the theme for what it was. These days, however, you can’t watch a movie that doesn’t have race swapped characters, or a pre-determined number of gay characters, or female “girl bosses”. These aren’t organic expressions that come from “art”, these are designed to lead the viewer to one, and only one, conclusion. It may be difficult to articulate for most ppl, but if you’re honest with yourself about what you’re seeing, you’ll intuit these differences. As soon as “representation” is even on the table, it’s no longer art, it’s propaganda. That’s just one example, and perhaps the best example I can think of today. The Entertainment Industries Council has a list of “depiction suggestions” for characters like soldiers, doctors, etc, and they’re there to influence how we, the audience, view these ppl in real life. The way movies accomplish this is by forcing the viewer into one predetermined intellectual decision about how we view these characters and/or the plot of the movie itself. This is propaganda. If I can tell you immediately, before the plot even unfolds,,that the Bible-wielding southern preacher is going to be the bad guy in any movie that comes out these days, and I’m right every time, then it’s propaganda. If I can tell you that this female character in this movie is going to be a lesbian the first time I see her in a scene, and that the plot of the movie is going to center around lecturing the audience about why this is a good thing instead of moving the story forward, it’s propaganda. If ALL the super hero movies that come out now highlight the men passing the torch to the women and “letting them take over”, it’s propaganda. We’ve seen it countless times, and the few times we haven’t seen it, we get the media “backlash” about how this movie has “too many white men” in it (despite it being set in Victorian England). Again-it’s reactionary, and only makes sense in the context of TODAY. I could go on, but I’ll leave it there.
      Needless to say, the original comment wasn’t “useless” at all, it was on point. Movies today ALWAYS harp on a political point of some kind, and it’s ONLY one ideology. This, by definition, is propaganda, but this wasn’t always true.

      @Ryotbh 4 месяца назад +25

      It's the greater ramifications of what DEI means. If you have included a character purely based on their race, gender, or sexuality, then it becomes a representation or statement on that identity. Hence, a character specifically included in a story for their race cannot be depicted in a negative light for fear of repercussions. This is partly why every female lead has to be a "girl boss" or flawless, because otherwise people see it as being a larger statement against women.
      If you write yourself into a position where the only negative traits and flaws you can attribute to characters have to be given to the non-DEI characters then the story will become empty and shallow and will likely be attacked for being woke. Otherwise, if you depict a character specifically because it hits a DEI quota with largely negative traits then you will be attacked for stereotyping or being a bigot. You cannot win with forced DEI casting.

    Most people don't have a very basic understanding of economics. As the example you've mentioned, forcing the productions to have more people seems to end up in more jobs but that's not the final result. What happens is that the ones already on top are the only ones that can keep with the demands, so less independent creators have opportunities. Those syndicates are not for the workers, they work for the big studios to keep their power, but with the DISGUISE of benefitting the poor workers.

      For me, I binge Chinese and Korean stuff. Romance and action without the weird sex, gays, or rabid feminists. Great movie soundtracks too.

    Actors and writers will be replaced by AI generated actors that follow scripts anyone writes.

      Maybe eventually, AI is good but it’s not that good yet. Writers maybe, most writing is just regurgitating common tropes anyway so AI can do that.

    My wife and I used to go to movies a couple times a month. Cost of living has increased so much that we only go to a (maybe) a couple movies per year now.
    There also aren’t movies that really excite me anymore. It feels like Hollywood hates/blames me for their blunders, so why would I support them again in the future?

    Movies these days are always forcing the message on me! The women are too strong and the men are either cringe or white man bad… it’s all so political, and the message takes precedence over good story telling!! I’m kinda done with Hollywood tbh, and have gone back to Asian movies and anime ! Very un politically correct movies, small budget and character driven …

    The worst thing is that more writers DO NOT improve the project, in fact, it's almost assured that it makes it worse. The modern classic shows like The Sopranos, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, all had very limited writing staffs.
    Writing is art, not industry.

    I will watch a non-woke movie or series 10 times before I will watch one woke movie. As soon as I see a POC in a traditionally white role I immediately opt out. The same with too many gay characters or even one trans character. Sorry, but woke is toxic.

    I am a father of two boys,now 16&17 in 2024. Luckily I had a fantastic time going to the marvel movies with them all the way until endgame and black panther. We never go to the movies anymore as we are bored with the pushing of lesser characters with no back story we can route for who belittle men. Males go to see these movies far more than females. Let females have Barbie. Good luck to them. We are now watching shogun on Disney. Mariko character in shogun like ripley in aliens, black widow in Marvel, Sarah Connor in terminator, Clarice starling, the bride, lisbeth Salander etc etc. you get my point, too many to mention. Write a good character first and we won’t care….. and don’t make her a girl boss! South Park nailed it in their panderverse episode.

      I'm a woman and former Army veteran and I agree with you. I have two sons and all of us are sick of feminists destroying heroes. No 5'9" woman is going to beat up a 6' guy. Period. Ripley was a strong female lead, but she didn't emasculate the men around her.

      @guyfanno Just think of the money you`ve saved from that alone (not to mention, everybody else in your neck of the woods has too). I buy ZERO DVDs anymore (if I can`t watch it for FREE on my streaming service, I won`t waste my time or money)! My main point is, we owe the entertainment industry NOTHING, least of all OUR hard-earned money!
