so by your logic if someone is smoking crack while drinking coffee and has a heart attack then coffee is a drug of concern? its really a mute point because drugs do not cause addiction. its pain that causes addiction. anyone who has been through it could tell you. if i didnt find heroin or any drug for that matter i would have just found something else external to ease the pain. thanks to kratom i have 5 years clean from heroin, i have had a job for as long, and i am healthier than i have ever been in my entire life. kratom gave me the space to start working on my issues. i tried suboxone and methadone but both of those programs required me to travel across town to get my dose every morning which would have precluded me from the job market. this amazing plant has helped so many. really all drugs should be legal, and regulated. pharma should be banned from straight to consumer marketing (like they are in the rest of the world) as should alcohol, and tobacco or any other substance that is determined to have abuse potential. use all the taxes generated from the drug/alcohol market to help people struggling with addiction.

I agreed with AKA on most things, except about Kratom being a food supplement, on that one you were right Dr. B :) However, governments are making so much trouble or strict laws if you would admit the medicinal effects, almost making the product illegal. That was even the case for CBD here, even that used to be illegal, later on it became legal but only as a food supplement. Almost always on kratom you buy it will say "not for human consumption" while every knows that's what it's for lol..
But that case of the 24yr old boy where mitragynin was given as prime cause of death, is a joke. Especially if you look at all the other substances he already took, 2 antidepressants, alcohol & more. And they saw he suffered pulmonary edema too, concluding this was caused by Kratom?? Lol, this is a good but bad example too of a case where you can absolutely not blame the Kratom unless there is real proof that would suggest otherwise. At best the kratom had just a little part in combination with all the other drugs, that he eventually died, but even then u can't put the blame on kratom itself. Everybody knows one should not combine lots of substances like that, kratom alone would have never had this affect on that boy.. They need to come up with something real of evidence if you really wanna make those claims cuz that is just worthless & laughable.. Well except for that young man that died early but I'm sure Kratom wasn't the devil there.

@@michaelmclaughlin9079 Congrats, i can relate strongly to your point about pain. At least some drugs should always be legal being weed & kratom :) weed being illegal here, made the market for coke explode lol... And kratom is still pretty unknown otherwise it was probably illegal too. Not to mention the many natural psychedelic drugs that are very therapeutic & self-healing, alltho that shoudl always be done under professional care.

Same here! I definitely try and manage kratom better than I did alcohol lol I went through such bad withdrawals and DTs from alcohol and ended up with pancreatitis multiple times and for a while I was scared to try kratom because I never wanted to have any sort of withdrawals ever again and also suffered PTSD. I built up a little courage to try it out thibking it may help for my PTSD and anxiety and at first it was confusing with the dosage and the kind that I like but I ended up veering towards the white kratom and sometimes in the evening a little bit of red bali kratom. Through kratom I also found kava which I actually enjoy better than kratom, it's just more expensive and well after recovering from my alcohol addiction I don't want to find myself in another habit forming expense that adds up and leaves me broke. It's all addicting though especially if you have an addictive personality, shit if you drink 4 bottles of water every day for 1 months straight and then stop, your body is going to have a withdrawal reaction. That said, as long as kratom is used responsibly (for me 6-8 grams a day) it can be super beneficial!

100% agree. Why does it have to be either #1 highly addictive or #2 no addiction potential. Obviously I think it’s somewhere in the middle. But who cares! A lot of modern day medicine pharmaceuticals ARE addictive WITH side effects. I think people can get addicted to everything: Food, sex, gambling, drugs etc etc Just because something has a potential of being addictive doesn’t mean it has no value to be used medicinally. If someone is in chronic pain 24/7 and they would be taking an opioid regardless I think many would rather be addicted to Kratom for pain vs prescription opioids..

I recommend Always weighing your doses. A scale is essential in Kratom use. It allows you to taper off without heavy withdrawals. I go down a half a gram at a time. Chronic constipation will also cause health problems. I have to take magnesium and psyillium husk fiber everyday so that I don't get backed up.

After taking Kratom for 2.5 years at 20-30 gpd ( 1 tsp in the morning and 3-4 heaping tsp after work) I was hopelessly addicted. Hair loss, constipation, isolation and withdrawal were destroying me. It was difficult to quit, I am about two weeks into cold turkey and I feel mostly better but there are still lingering withdrawal symptoms.
I can see how Kratom would be great for some people but I am not one of those people. I don't think it should be illegal but people need to know how addictive it is.

My Dr. All of a sudden told me he was not prescribing them anymore and left me with nothing I shortly went into severe withdrawal and ended up on heroin. I lost my home my family my job and everything else you can think of. I ended up on suboxone for several years which was just as addictive and expensive. I reluctantly tried kratom and after my 3rd dose I never took suboxone or heroin or pain pills ever again. Kratom literally saved my life. I use it for pain and I don't even take ibuprofen anymore. I don't get withdrawal symptoms from it I can function on it and it's affordable for me to have a life.

Interesting u used it to get off methamphetamine! Thank u for sharing your experience...good, fair, honest insight. As an opiate addict, my experience was quite similar, and I can relate to your story very much! In my case though, I actually experienced Withdrawal from the kratom AFTER using kratom alone for quite some time. This was rather alarming to me, but I got through it with slow tapering...It was unmistakably similar to opiate withdrawal, HOWEVER, far far milder. I feel like it absolutely has benefits, yet must truly be respected and utilized with responsibility. It was awesome that this stuff existed to help me in my process, yet at the same time, in my opinion, it definitely has abuse potential. If someone takes this substance every day for an extended period of time, the brain really does not discriminate between the effects of the kratom and actual opiates as far as what is being done neurochemically in brains opioid receptors. Thanks for your honesty cause if I dare explain the pros AND the cons, proponents of kratom basically tell me to F-off and dismiss me.

Addiction and dependency are two completely different things.
All opiates cause dependency and withdrawal after ,"more then 3 days of constant usage" but going through withdrawal because you have caused a "body shut down of endogenous natural body opioids chemicals",
and caused a physical dependency because of it. which countless drugs and plant medicines do that do not even get the person intoxicated. eg ... hormone replacement therapy, testosterone, thyroid etc..
This does not mean you are an addict. Addiction is a complete unwillingness to stop and go through the withdrawal symptoms, combined with a desire to use it to either avoid withdrawals or to get high /intoxicated even if it destroys your social life.
IF you have the mental fortitude to quit in spite of withdrawals then you are not an addict

With all due respect, why did you start it in the first place then? We are all adults here. I did research before I started taking it bc it’s our responsibility to know what we are putting inside our bodies. I knew full well that it can cause a tolerance which means your body can get accustomed to it which means dependent which means wds can happen or symptoms of not feeling well if you take it regularly and don’t taper. It’s not rocket science. Most herbs and meds do this. It’s nothing new. If a person cannot control themselves and exhibit out of control behavior and self destructs or is toxic in their actions as in abuse or overtaking well that’s on you. The person shouldn’t of took so much OR why can’t you slowly taper?? I have ppl who ask me how they can taper and I help many. But there are some who are just harmful and stubborn and want things now and are resistive. They don’t want to be bothered by slowly tapering and taking the time to decrease over time so they end up having bad wds. 🤷🏼‍♀️ If the person is so deep into their addictive mentality and literally cannot stretch it out bc they have to consume all every last bit until they’re out then you need to get help for your issues and probably this plant or anything that has any kind of alkaloid content you should avoid. No caffeine nothing. But even without these mild substances and foods there are other things I’m sure are a struggle but won’t be resolved as long as you keep running from addressing the reasons why in therapy. I’m sorry to didn’t work out for you? If I may ask Did you start taking it to get off of heroin or opioids etc? I really do want to try and help ppl who are interested in this plant and save them from unnecessary time wasted if they don’t want to address their issues or don’t want anything that can become accustomed to their body. Suboxone and methadone are far more addicting and are actually making ppl nod off while driving and they are being given to ppl to get sober which is baffling to me. It literally doesn’t make any sense for someone to be against Kratom yet supports or consumes suboxone or methadone. So much ignorance or denial bc they’re so addicted to it. Suboxone is a partial agonist like Kratom but at least Kratom doesn’t cause horrific side effects for most like subs or methadone. Methadone is a full opioid agonist. But I see ppl push it and condemn the plant Kratom. I don’t know your story but I’m just blabbing a bit here. I appreciate you saying everyone is different. It gives me a sign of hope that maybe you bash it across the board and are thinking of others and not just yourself. I hope I didn’t come across as hostile ty brother

If someone is having severe negative effects from something they’re taking and can’t stop that’s bc they are out of control in their behavior. They need help. They need psychotherapy to change their behavior and the underlying root driving their actions. It amazes me how quick ppl are to let themselves off the hook. Kratom is just a plant in the coffee family. If you cannot control your use of it then you should avoid all stimulants. The difference is huge, I have noticed less side effects and better overall effects. If you consume kratom stay away from extracts and raw powder (especially if you have addiction problems). Get a hold of the crushed leaf and learn to brew it. Also don't abuse it, its not going to cure you it will however help you function if your in severe pain. I am on day 4 of outpatient treatment to get off this crap. It is also making my hair fall out; along with loss in strength, loss of sex drive, and absence of healthy living. The withdrawals so bad that I have to take medications to get off of it (suboxone and clonidine). Note: I did manage to quit once with the help of real opiates (morphine). I then weaned off of that because it is less addicting than kratom.

Pointing out that the Kratom rep is a “marketing” professional is a red herring. If the points he made were valid and true, it doesn’t matter what his background or job title is. I say pure cuz yea, kratom powder could contain anything like potentially harmful substances that you can have ingested that way, but that's not the plant's fault. I'm not saying Kratom couldn't be the cause here, but you must be cautious to directly assume it should've been the kratom.. I used to have a friend, young girl who had thyroid cancer, she never drank kratom or anything like.. You get my point :) I hope your kidneys are ok now :) and also the Withdrawal, well I've read & said it several times already, it's about doing it the right away and not completely stopping abruptly, that's asking for trouble, same goes for benzos. But kratom is known to be pretty mild if you withdraw slowly, at least compared to opioid pills..

Most of what the spokesperson said was essentially about the FDA, and not about kratom itself. Is Kratom less dangerous (as far as we know) than traditional opiates? Yes. Does that mean it’s harmless or perfectly safe? No. It has potentially severe withdrawal symptoms, is indeed potentially addictive, and has effects on the cardiovascular system and blood pressure that traditional opiates do not have. If a long term kratom addict develops abnormal heart rhythms (which is a side effect of kratom) and hypertension as a result of use, it is not harmless (even if the damage is reversible upon cessation). The food vs drug thing is a red herring, it’s completely irrelevant. Cheeseburgers are also a food, does that mean I can ignore the harm they do to my cholesterol levels? It means nothing to make this distinction, and whether or not the FDA does this is completely irrelevant.

It also allows you to taper off when you need to without heavy withdrawals symptoms. I have 2 scales at all times (backup) I like knowing the tenth of a gram of my doses. I prefer blends and mix different blends with my blends.. haha get it. I don't get strain dependent. Fiber is a Must! Psyillium Husk powder and magnesium mixed in a blender I use a little apple juice. I take that everyday so I stay flowing. When I want to reduce my tolerance I skip afternoon and/or evening doses and reduce amount by half to one gram. Then 24 hrs off with a few grams less can reset my tolerance back a few grams per dose for weeks.

I will say Dr. B you actually said one of the most important facts about kratom that need to be widely understood and repeated when you said, “if you’ve been taking Kratom for six months then give me a call in five years.”
And that is the absolute bottom line about kratom, it enters everyone’s life as a blessing and eventually reeks havoc when not used respectfully and properly and it will potentially become a nightmare for most users beyond the five-year point because everything DRASTICALLY changed on its effects within my body during my sixth year of usage.
And FYI, even as a kratom advocate I must point out kratom has a SIGNIFICANT ADDICTION LIABILITY TO ANY user who is previously considered “addictive.”
Any addict, using kratom for addiction recovery, will more than likely become an addict of Kratom, it is simply a matter of harm reduction or as Kratom is the better alternative to the more harmful substances it is replacing. Plain and simple end of story, bottom line.

ABSOLUTELY - And this is what the conversation needed to be about! Dr. B should have mentioned this point more but I felt the video was a bit redundant. I think Dr. B should have talked about the addictive potential more, rather than the 'overdoses' or whatever
