Approval based on travel plans seems to be phasing out. Health insurance plans in Portugal are reasonably priced. Mine is around €30/month. Great video! I have a question about 2-time-entry rule on your D7 visa if you do not mind. Because you are a US citizen, you can enter Portugal as many times as you want? This is really confusing to me. So, when you enter the country, you do not even have to use the D7 visa? How this works? Does the officer stamp on it?

I have already inquired to one company who provides assistance with the process of the visa and also opening a bank account and registering with NHS etc. which would all up cost around 2-3k euro. Is it easy enough to do all or most of this yourself? Or does the whole process become alot easier using an agency? Great videos BTW! Everything you need to know is on this Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/americansandfriendsPT That group can also recommend people who can help you for much less money if you don’t have time/energy to do it yourself. I’ve read about people who have more hassles with lawyers than I ever had on my own. Hope this helps!
@@JuliaRochelleAbroad I've read that with a permit a person has to spend no less than 6 consecutive months in the country. And if there is a break in between, then +2 month will be added. So it's gonna be at least 8 months during the year. Is it true?

You are allowed to leave Portugal once during this time (your visa allows you to enter Portugal twice). After getting the temporary residence permit, you are allowed to be outside of Portugal 8 months/year (6 months max at one time) Yes, you have access to the public healthcare system.

Although, it's a good idea if you have the opportunity to do so. 2) After receiving the visa, you will apply for a permit in Portugal to stay for up to two years. When you renew this permit, there are several documents you will need. I plan to make a video on that in the future, so make sure to subscribe and get alerts for when that video comes out :)

Isn't D7 visa supposed to be for retirees? You mentioned that you're a freelancer, looking forward to hearing from you
Thank you I watched the other videos on visa! Please recommend laces in enclave to stay for a month n Lisbon!😅😅
Hi
Can you tell us what happens when you visit SEF and details of that appointment and how long after that visit did you receive your residency card
Hi Andrew, sure thing! I plan to make a detailed video on this in the coming weeks. Briefly, you show the required paperwork and pay the fee. They didn’t ask me many questions, but I did have to wait a while for the appointment. I believe my card took about six weeks to arrive, but I’ll definitely check and update the exact information in the video.
Very help full
Keep going with info?
Can u just have travel ins? Or get health ins there? How to open bank account? Or use western union?
Approval based on travel plans seems to be phasing out. Health insurance plans in Portugal are reasonably priced. Mine is around €30/month.
You can try to find a bank in Portugal who will work with you online or set up an account in-person on a scouting trip. The easiest way is through a service like Bordr. if you use this link, you can get a small discount on the services: bordr.com/pricing-packages/?via=juliarochelle
(full disclosure, I get a small commission at no extra cost to you if you use the link)
Hi Julia, great video, Portugal is at top of my list of places to relocate to this summer. Having never been I'm hoping I can just fly out and use my 90days on my usa passport and if things are going great then ill buy a house there in that time and just apply for the D7 or perhaps something else while im still in Portugal? Don't have the $ for the citizenship programs etc I saw but have enough to buy a house in cash.
Thank you so much for the informative video, I would like to ask you, How much should you be making monthly or annually as a passive income to qualify for the D7 visa.
Thank you in advance.
Interested in a video about Temp Residency Permit 😀
Thanks, Mike! I’ll put it on my list. In the meantime, you may want to check out the Facebook group Americans & FriendsPT. They have a great guide 👍🏼
Good going 🤩 What’s the best way to obtain a reasonable rental contract needed for D7 application por favor? Much thanks, blessings 🦋🕊

Can you post a video on how to turn D7 into residency after arrival, all the way to become citizen?
I've got a video on this: ruclips.net/video/6oYwgWD3Bxk/видео.html
I haven't gotten to citizenship yet
Hey Texas here!
After all the time that you have been there and with the discussions that you have had with others, what bank would you recommend setting up remotely to deposit money into for the D7 application? I'm from Houston btw too and want to go by the end of the year (2021).
i am interested to move in Portugal with my family I live in Qatar Doha work in the petrochemical industry in dept of fire & safety what you suggest me about D7 visa
Very. .good. .information
Very informative video. Please make more. How did you get a residency card, what was the process, how long it took and what bank you chose in Portugal? Also can you travel freely in Europe with the residency card or are you required to stay in Portugal for the entire time? Thanks!
Hi there, thanks for the comment!
I plan to talk about the residency card in an upcoming video so stay tuned for that.
My bank is Caixa Geral de Depósitos. I personally like it, but they charge monthly fees.
You can travel freely within the European Union countries, but you are required to be in Portugal for 4 to 6 months depending on how you break up your travel.
@@JuliaRochelleAbroad thank you! The other question I have that would make for a great video topic is taxes...
@@Goodlifexplorers that is a great idea! I’m not an accountant, but I can share some things to know when starting out and can recommend an accountant
@@JuliaRochelleAbroad Yes, nothing too detailed, just like how was your experience in the process of filing in 2 countries...etc. I know everyone's situation is different, but a general overview would be great.
@@Goodlifexplorers I see, yes lots to talk about there. I’ve already filed taxes once. I’ll make a video after filing this year to have more experience to speak about 🙂
Thank you so much for the video, Julia. That was incredibly helpful! :)
I’m a young music composer from Morocco, who makes regular income from streaming platforms like Spotify. Do you think I would be eligible for the D7 visa? 🙏🏼
Sounds like you would be
Hey Julia, I'm just wondering whether you hired a consultant to do the application for you or whether you did it yourself and which way you would suggest? Thanks!
Also for digital nomads
Hi Julia: Great information greatly appreciated, I am awared of the requirements for the D7 visa but where can I download the application to flll it out if I want to do it on my own?I can't seem to find a link to download the form for USA citizens
you and your video such a nice
How much did you pay for the D7 visas including the residence pass and all fees??
Hello! I have all the required documentation. How difficult is the process to apply for the 2 year visa. I'm retired and meet the financial requirements. Thanks for this video. How do you like Portugal.
Thank you for the brief and informative video. What was the difference in using the DC counsel it over the Texas branch?. I hear that the DC Council it is easier to work with. Was that the reason for your choice? Thanks in advance.
M
Texas has a Portuguese consulate but it is an honorary consulate and does not process visas. I was required to use the DC consulate.
What is the best bank in portugal?
We use Montepio, which has been a pretty decent bank, with good app and online banking as well as phone banking (don't know if they do English language phone help, but if you speak Portuguese it's good)
All expensives in commissions. But would be cgd, bpi, Santander
I only have experience with Caixa Geral de Depositos and I've liked it. They usually have a fee to keep the account that's around less than 5 euros per month. There are other banks that don't have the fee
Thank you!
Hi Jacob, The D7 visa is a sticker in your passport that you can’t remove, so they’ll track it in customs
How long before you have to enter Portugal once the D7 visa is approved? What do you need to do for the 2 year Residency permit once you arrive?
Hi there, the D7 visa will have an expiration date on it. You definitely need to enter Portugal before this visa expires. Typically, you need to enter within 90 days of receiving the visa in your passport.
I’m making a video on how to get the temporary residence permit. It should be posted in the coming weeks. Let me know if there are any other questions I can help with!
@@JuliaRochelleAbroad Thanks so much. As soon as international flights are somewhat back I plan to fly to Portugal. I pretty much assumed that if you get the D7 visa then you will get the Permit i.e the D7 works as a filter.
@@WISERandHAPPIER Not 100% success rate there, but I definitely felt more confidence with the visa in hand!
Hi Julia. Im planning to move to Portugal in the next year with a D7 visa. Do you think applying through an agency or lawyers saves alot of time and hassles? I have already inquired to one company who provides assistance with the process of the visa and also opening a bank account and registering with NHS etc. which would all up cost around 2-3k euro. Is it easy enough to do all or most of this yourself? Or does the whole process become alot easier using an agency? Great videos BTW! I have just subscribed and look forward to watching more of your vids about Portugal.
Hi Daniel, I never hired anyone to help with the D7 visa or the permit. Everything you need to know is on this Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/americansandfriendsPT
That group can also recommend people who can help you for much less money if you don’t have time/energy to do it yourself. I’ve read about people who have more hassles with lawyers than I ever had on my own. Hope this helps!
@@JuliaRochelleAbroad Hi Julia ,, your fb link goes nowhere, did you know that ?
@@gocanada9749 Fixed now. Thank you!
are you allowed to travel in the schengen area once you receive the temporary residence permit ?
Hi Mon, thanks for your question. Yes, it does.
@@JuliaRochelleAbroad I've read that with a permit a person has to spend no less than 6 consecutive months in the country. And if there is a break in between, then +2 month will be added. So it's gonna be at least 8 months during the year. Is it true?
I’m from the U.K. looking to move to Portugal. I have about £4.2 million (roughly $6m) invested in residential and commercial property here in the U.K. I’m looking to use the passive income from my property portfolio to live in Portugal and retire, maybe do some voluntary work part time. Would this still be the best visa?
If you have that kinda money you can look at Non Habitual Residency (NHR) in Portugal instead. You could benefit 10 year tax free on your foreign sourced income.
Hi I am a Software Developer from Nigeria and working remotely with 2 gigs , I want to move to Portugal , subscribed to your page. Hoping to leave my country. Thanks

Hi Julia, I am planning to take a break from work for 3 to 6 months. Planning to spend some months in Portugal. Do I apply for d7 or just a tourist visa? Thanks!
Oh! More questions, haha... how did you go about getting your criminal background check? And, how long did it take for them to process your documents before approving the visa? I live in central america, and would have to come back to the US just for this - so I am trying to see how long the steps and process would be. Thank you!
Hi Maria, have you checked out my video on the FBI background check? ruclips.net/video/grb3TXn0dms/видео.html
My visa was processed in five weeks. Check out the end of this video for the exact timeline I experienced in applying for the D7 visa: ruclips.net/video/dd9xtS9p70w/видео.html

Hi Julia,
Thank you for this video. This is very helpful. Yet, I'm quite confused about the very first step. So far, I have filled out the form and gathered most of the documents such as proof of income, health insurance and so on. From now, I don't know what to do. I believe that I have to make an appointment at San Francisco. Nevertheless, when I try to book one on VSF, they say no application found. So, how do I start this application?
Thank you for you help :)
Liked the way you explained but please tell us how much a passive income is required
Around 8000 euros. I have more details in another video: ruclips.net/video/dd9xtS9p70w/видео.html
After your application is approved, how long do you need to remain in Portugal to complete the Temporary Resident status? Once you get that status how long do you need to be in Portugal each year to maintain it? Does one get access to the state run health care system with a Temporary resident status?
You Will have to spend 5 years on trc to get citizenship status.and you Will have to stay at least 183 days each year in Portugal while you can enjoy free medical health benefits just like other Portuguese.
Hi Caren, once you are approved for the visa, you will go to Portugal and set up an appointment with SEF. You are allowed to leave Portugal once during this time (your visa allows you to enter Portugal twice).
After getting the temporary residence permit, you are allowed to be outside of Portugal 8 months/year (6 months max at one time)
Yes, you have access to the public healthcare system.
Thx for your video on D7 visa. I am an retired American seriously looking in buying a vacation home in the Algarve area. I have been there this past Sept and looked at some properties. I dont intent to move to Portugal permently. I most likely will not saty in Portugal more than 120 days at a time. I am financially very adequate to retired comforatablly from my passive income. Based on my situation what am I required to have in terms of a visa or permit if I just come to visit and use my home? Thanksfor your advise !

Hi Julia,
Thx for the helpful video. Any idea if the D7 is a pathway to citizenship? I've visited Portugal years ago and fortunately I'm fluent in Portuguese. If I go, I'd like to get the citizenship over the line and secure the European passport in the long run. Thanks🙏
Eventually, yes. With the D7 visa, you would apply for the temporary resident permit and renew it, which is a five year period. After 5 years you are eligible for citizenship. See more info here: eportugal.gov.pt/en/servicos/pedir-a-nacionalidade-portuguesa
Hi ,Julia first of all thank you so much for your great videos ...
I have two questions
1) is that compulsory do I need visit Portugal or is it mandatory??
2) For renewing visa after two years
Do we need to show funds again or just normally do stamping ??
Advance thank you 🙏
Hi Naredla, thanks for the questions.
1) Visiting Portugal is not compulsory for applying for the D7 visa.
Does D7 allow you to stay and work in Portugal? What is the minimum amount to be shown for financial proof?
Hi Arun, yes and 8000 euros. See my other video for more details about applying for the D7 visa: ruclips.net/video/dd9xtS9p70w/видео.html

Hi julia can u explain more on statement bank that they need? How much they required in order for us to apply this d7 visa?
If I show my savings of Euro1000 pm for past one year or 3 yrs or even 5 yrs... Can I call it passive income eligible for D7? Also I will have regular pension of Euro1200 pm if I choose to retire by taking voluntary retirement which I want to opt after 2022
Hi Ashok, thanks for the question. If you have 1000 euros per month, you should meet the financial means requirement. Please check with your Portuguese consulate to confirm their income requirements.

Would this visa apply to remote (work from home) workers (American)? Since I can provide for myself financially without working in Portugal and make well over the amount required for the D7 Visa?

Hi Nancy, after you get the temporary residence permit, you can be outside of Portugal for a total of eight months in the first two years, but you cannot be out of Portugal for longer than six months at a time.
For the initial D7 visa, you are permitted to exit Portugal and re-enter one time after your initial entry.
