    As I've gotten older, cheaper guitars have gotten better. A lot better. So much so that Fender and Gibson can't really sell me anything anymore. At my age and income level, it gets hard to justify even GOOD guitar purchases, and I'm at the point now where I must consider storage space among all the other things. I've also learned much about setups and the like, and I save money by doing my own. It makes more sense for me to buy a cheaper guitar and rework it until it's what I want. After all, aren't ALL bolt-on guitars "partscasters?"

      Couldn’t agree more,
      I’ve wound up selling both of my American made Fenders ( One Strat, and one Tele ), I have four or five now which I’ve painted and also hand wired the electronics I purchased the necks and bodies all via Warmoth. If you’re handy, imo it’s totally the way to go for any ‘bolt~on’, and your right, to put it mildly…. They’re all basically parts~casters.
      Depending on the wood, grain and other options you can do a build for as low as 5-600 and you can go way higher of course, although it’s always going to be custom to what you want. With stainless steel frets added these guitars will outlive us takin care of properly too.
      For me, unless it’s some sort of deal I can’t turn down obviously I don’t see myself ever buying another actual Fender again or any other major brand which builds bolt on necks 🤙

      Well..in most cases the necks are from different pieces of wood.. so except for some rare one pice guitra they all are "partspaulas/partscasters".. whether the neck is bolted on or glued in..

    Just got the made in japan 1980 international Stratocaster in monoco Yellow Reissue. It has all the vibes of the originals but with really tight specs. Small frets but a 9.5 radius sure a nice feel, and the U shape is very good. I wanted a 1973 Stratocaster but way budget. Great video it just goes to show all Stratocasters are different, and all are very cool 😎.

    In 1982, I bought a 1979 Strat, identical hardware to Landon's, but the body was painted black, and it weighed a ton. I gigged with it for over twenty years, before buying a Telecaster that supplanted it. I shielded the body with aluminium foil, and I wish I'd wired the bridge pickup to a tone pot (my Squier CV 50s has this, and the bridge pickup is actually usable). Other points to note are that the out-of-phase sound was really pronounced, which isn't always the case, and the notion that the quality of '70s Fenders was poor is nonsense; a myth started back then to keep the value of older guitars high.

    Like I once said before in one of your videos, I envy you for having a birth year guitar. Me as well, still looking for 79 Strat, because I'm a huge fan of 70's large head and triangle neck plate strats. My goal is Natural finish with maple boards. I prefer light weight, less worn, PUs should have a all original grey bobbin and original hardshell cases - prefer ABS molded ones to tolex cases.
    And most of all, the reason why I try to buy it is 'birth year guitar' so exact product year must be1979. There are many 79 strats in the world right now but some of them like 78 PU assembly or 1980 body etc.
    I've been looking for here and there for months but it's so hard.
    One day my thing would come up out of somewhere. I really hope.

    Looked up the GT11. I haven’t spent that much on a guitar. My CS heavy relic 52 Tele had a higher list price, but I bought it used for a discount. It was still less than two months after it was made-there were older CS Teles on the wall that still had the new premium price and didn’t have the expensive relic work I would have had to pay more for. As for how much I would pay for a Strat…I think I’d rather just buy another SG. I only have six of those.

    Love the ash body of the 1979 (my buddy has his Dad's 70s ash Strat) but love the neck/fretboard and tones of the 'Goes To 11'. I can only afford a Player series budget but the Player pickups are kind of lame and need upgrading. Even after a bridge pup mod I gave up on my Lead II and bought one of the new PRS SE Swamp Ash Special HSH on the factory sale (till December) because the SE SAS sounds more Fender than my Fender.

    Oh, that Bright Sapphire Metallic GT-11 is gorgeous, but holy friggin’ moly. $4325.00? Yikes! I paid $800.00 for my Schecter Nick Johnston HSS “Strat”, and it’s spectacular. I’d love a Fender, but I don’t think I’d pay more than the $800.00, and frankly there ain’t no way Fender can match all the features and quality for the Schecter’s price. Roasted maple neck (silky-smooth satin finish), ebony fretboard with 14” radius, extra-jumbo frets, Graph Tech nut, locking tuners, killer pickups (HSS), beeeuutiful Strat tones, flawless 2-point trem and finish, and 8 lbs soaking wet (I hope it’s waterproof, gulp). Pretty, pretty hard to beat that.

    • @jcedrez
      @jcedrez 8 месяцев назад +1

      I somewhat absolutely disagree! I once spent two hours in a L&M in front of a Fender Bassman pulling down the cheapest Squiers to the most expensive Fender teles and strats. With equivalent single coil pickups... A tele sounded like a tele. A strat sounded like a strat. Neck differences? Yes, that is a thing. Electronics? Yes, between the taper and feel of the pots, and the feel of the switches. As well... Overall playability and fit and finish. That's the practical difference as to price. With a bit of work, a cheaper instrument can rival a more expensive one. It's a case of diminishing returns. Spend less than premium, do a bit of work, and you've got a wonderful instrument. But, if you want a top-shelf instrument out of the box... $$$. No judgement. Durability is another issue entirely.

    • @kanahmal
      @kanahmal 8 месяцев назад +2

      I agree, I'm a Tele type and I live in a music centric city so I've got to try out some very expensive Tele's, but whenever I'm trying out an amp or pedal at my local shop I pick up a 40th anniversary Squier Tele. If I didn't already have a Mexican tele that I put a bunch of work into making it mine, I'd be more than satisfied with the Squier.

    I'd spend a couple grand on s Strat. 1) Because they're my favorite, and that's what I play 2) You could get one of the best ever made, and you wouldn't have to mortgage your house, like with another brand, where they can't justify charging $10,000 or more for one. Especially charging insane prices for signature models! A Fender signature is at most $6,000.
