@@mlotshwa100The term "African" is primarily used as a racial category, not to denote continent of origin. If an African family moved to europe and have a child, their child would not become caucasian. White south africans are South African, that's their nationality. Saying that they are African is just weird.
The fact that the white South African guy said “the black plight” regarding hippies moving into huts “to be African” and his response to “Africans dance and celebrate everything” question was “THEY” shows that he doesn’t consider himself African. They’re just white people who happen to live in South Africa but they’re not African.
Thank you guys for picking those 2 to represent South Africa, they really gave us a snapshot of the disconnect between black and white South Africans and their general views about the rest of us.
Well there everyone but I think they have somewhat of right to be chosen as their ancestors have been there for over a century, and they have been born and raised in SA, and they most likely know what it’s like to live there since they’ve been born and raised there, maybe yeah, they’ve had privileges over the years, and MIGHT NOT know much about tribes in SA, BUT I don’t think it’s necessary to know everything (I mean obviously they must have at least some knowledge) but the video itself doesn’t really talk much knowing the entire history of SA itself since homosapiens times, it’s just a basic video talking about what’s its like living in Africa, and white SA have some knowledge of it since they have lived there, they might not be the best to be chosen but they have lived in the African continent
South Africa has a history. The black and whites interracial community is awkward. It's either they use blacks or whites. All other Africans there are blacks. It's better to use white South Africans. I also know the whites feel different in Africa and may feel not fully accepted as Africans so they use "They" to describe Africans. I wish the mistakes of the past can disappear but we need them unfortunately, so we don't repeat them.

@Blabla Blabla Not exactly. You also have indian ascendants (debatable of course, but technically they could enter that defiition)since it is the term comming from Apartheid. But in the US or Canada (where I hope you know the system is the most racist, so much so that Afrikaaners who came there to learn how to implement a racist system, ended making a "less" racist system, therefore the "coloured" class. In the US some who must be 3/10 black are considered as black, with the consequences we know on their everyday life. If you don't check out the recent BLM movement among other things), you might use "mixed". But you might be mixed Zulu/Xhosa, you would not be considered coloured. And a coloured person might not be mixed, both his parents and from generations are officially "coloured". I don’t something about the white South Africans answers didn’t sit right with me. They had offensive translations of black South Africans traditions. They could have talked about their Dutch traditions in SA. They were answering from perspectives they can never understand.
I'm not South African but I'm from the Southern region (which is the whitest part of Africa) Zambia to be precise and I apologise for these white South Africans😑. Minority Africans are so out of touch with the African experience because they choose to segregate themselves & live far away from us majority "average blacks", they only mix with the "bougie, hyper Western" blacks. A lot of them feel so superior to us it's just disappointing. Their children too feel superior cause they've been trained to stay away from blacks.
For me it’s saddening that they live in a country yet remain so distant from embracing the culture and history of the country, especially the indigenous culture as well as its modern day version, and sadly that distancing causes so much of a divide in this country because there is no unity in diversity
Man, I'm Zambian too, and the white neighbourhoods here are isolated as fuck. I've never interacted with a person who is not my race, its a shame really.
I would have been fine with it depending on the conversation. The stereotype was Africans are black and they're like were not and were African... maybe Nationally but not native. So it is fair for people to assume the majority will be black, since virtually all native Africans are black (with the exception of a few North African countries.) I was born in and live in Australia which predominantly has people of European descent. If someone said Australia is white I would say yes. You would logically make a judgment based on the majority which is white because, you know history. 😂😂 Some of the people who are fairer (Mixed) is because of the history of slavery that East Africans had suffered by Arab people (East African Slave Trade) or West Africans by Europeans (Transatlantic slave trade), or colonization we weren't always so mixed. It's positive and beautiful to now see such diversity and various shades of blackness, despite having come out of such negative circumstances. My family are immigrants on both sides, so it's factual to say that is a white country, because it is predominantly. Of course that doesn't mean all are white, but most. Australia is a multicultural country too that welcomes people of other nationalities, colours and religions but it still is majority white. There is diversity to a certain extent between the like 25/30% that are people of colour and Australia welcomes multiculturalism but... White (European) people have been here since 1788 and my family between 1970 and 2000's 😂😂 So like obviously the majority will be white. That's like common sense. And a judgment like that Africa is black, isn't based on the minority in the continent who is white or Arab, but the majority who is black. 😂😂😂🤣🤣 That's just my opinion.

White south Africans have their own culture and cuzvof apartheid they were never exposed to the rest of the country so they're notoriously ignorant which makes the fact that they keep ending up representing the whole country extremely annoying it's exactly why I disliked this video before they even started talking 🤦🏾♂️
I understand but I don't think that they have done it in bad faith; nonetheless the producers shold have picked up like one black south african, one coloured and one afrikaner, to better represent the country
Some people don't really understand how big Africa is, and when they do, refuse to accept it. Africans have very beautiful housing, much finer and most times less expensive than abroad. Unlike how debt racks up there, most systems are pay as you go. All cultures are so rich too. Communitiy and love. Funerals aren't seen as weeping, but thanking and celebrating their life. My parents are always saying they can't wait for us to leave their house so they can go back home 😂
yep. for example my mom rents out houses, modern houses, the smaller ones have 3 bedrooms, tiled, a glass war separating the living room from the hallway, a large kitchen etc at 250USD per month. My American friend found it really weird that such a house could be rented out for an amount like that.
How did South Africa end up being represented by white people who as a people are embarrassed to be African. I am so disappointed at this channel for this insult. I am nor racist at all, but I don't think we were fairly represented by your panel. I am shocked at their VERY POOR REPRESENTATION.
@The505Guys Lol please, you all play the colorblind when it suits you. So Apartheid was based on random colour of people? The colonisation of the Netherlands in South Africa was random? The whole creation in the first place of "coloured" people was based on love relationships, not rape (as it systematiclly is with invasions and war)? Are these people integrated? Do they speak fluently an African language (apart from some words they might have learnt from their domestics)? And oh please, Afrikaans is basically Dutch with a drunken accent. And both that language and English are Indo-European languages, specifically Germanic. Not Nigero-Congolese II nor Khoisan, not local with thousands of years of existence and evolution on those lands (especially since Khoisans are the evolution of our race to all, and it's mesmerizing, and at least languages that have "clicks" in South Africa have at least some Khoisan languages vocabulary). Does South Africa not have a huge problem of land ownership mathematically perfectly related to skin colour? Who is racist? Racism upholds the notion of systematic oppression. And as already said here and loads of other comments, they use the "they" and the "us" perfectly, so they are well-aware of it. As a European, we always consider euro-colons really ignorant and vulgar (as they are, it's not random to be a colon anywhere. Those are not random indigenous Europeans, it has to do with the military and theft of ressources and land). But if they want to stay, it is our responsibility to denounce the neo-colonization and neo-apartheid when we see it. They are participating in shaming us. I would love to know about actual South African cultures, the local foods, the cosmovisions, the languages, how they tease each others and reputations between languages and so on. The colonial european one has no interest. And it's not "neutral" in any way. If you are South African, start learning one of the many South African languages there are instead of German.
What a nice video!! I was waiting for it :-) it would be nice to have a "sexiest language" video with african languages, considering how so many of them have said they are tired to hear people think they all speak the same language

Disappointed in the representation of South Africa. The people speaking for South Africa seem to not truly understand South African culture. They kept on referring to Africans as “they”. Which tell you everything. They are White South Africans for sure, not African. Only a ‘Black’ South African is African - at least in South Africa. White South Africans are just that. White South Africans. Either way we still welcome them when they want to learn about our culture( being so many).
That's so sad and therefore these South Africans issues towards race shows the ramification of apartheid i'm so sorry for that because as a Senegalese i can't relate to that thus i really want to know if you allow me to ask some sensible question like how you consider your fellow white South African people and how do they consider you as a Black south African people and overall what defines more a South African your complexion your culture your descents or maybe all of that at the same time. Sorry again my question comes from a Senegalese point of view cause as far as i know in Senegal white french governer and french aristocrats used to marry Senegalese aristocrats from the Serer and jolof ethny. Because of that my white Senegalese people lose their whitness over time by mixing themselves with the prior inhabitants of Senegal. Then if you are a white Senegalese which is very very rare Senegalese usually will not view you at first sight as a Senegalese not mostly for your complexion but for your culture and your ability to speak a proper jolof. Thus your "Senegalness" per say is more related to your ability to speak a proper jolof and the fact that you embodied the senegalese culture and because of that most of my Senegalese friend consider my white friend Victor more Senegalese than me even though i'm black cause my jolof terrible.
Most white people in South Africa don't consider themselves African (and aren't considered truly African by most). They will say they live in Africa or call themselves 'South Africans' but not really identify with all what it means to be African (i.e. African culture). For a country that's more than 80% black you'd think they'd have black South Africans up there representing.
@@tamiechimwendo7817 I get what you mean just like Senegal it's about cultures not complexion and it's truly mature and understandtable though i would have considered them the same way because culturally speaking they're not very South African moreover they don't even consider themselves South African or try appropriate the culture of they're own country of birth. Colonized? No that’s not at all true I’m blown away at how many people will believe anything and never look into to see the truth yourself. De Boers founded South Africa and just as they started getting it a port and small port town built up the Khoisan came to the South while fleeing hostile Bantu tribes expanding out of Western Africa and committing the biggest genocide that the world has seen in our recorded history, completely wiping people groups off the map and killing and sometimes enslaving other neighbouring Bantu’s who the sold to Arab Moors and then switched their expansion/genocide of The Khoisan’s and Sans people to straight up enslavement raids on neighbouring peoples wherever they found them and looking to sell them therein creating the beginnings of the so called Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. De Boers took in and protected the surging Khoisan’s with their rifles and gave them good and shelter in exchange for labour helping build up their port town.

Yeah that's true. It's quite telling. They sound like multi-generational expats.

Ain’t this just sad, that even in a place that is majority “black” they still find a way to bring back the racist segregation tendencies? Pathetic
For me it’s saddening that they live in a country yet remain so distant from embracing the culture and history of the country, especially the indigenous culture as well as its modern day version, and sadly that distancing causes so much of a divide in this country because there is no unity in diversity
They are not Afrikans and should be deported.
I apologise. Of course many are like this, but not all. It is terrible dealing with these who are not truly south african

We're hyperactive. 😎
As a South African, I am EXTREMELY disappointed in these 2 "South Africans" in this video
I would have been fine with it depending on the conversation.
The stereotype was Africans are black and they're like were not and were African... maybe Nationally but not native. So it is fair for people to assume the majority will be black, since virtually all native Africans are black (with the exception of a few North African countries.)
I was born in and live in Australia which predominantly has people of European descent. If someone said Australia is white I would say yes. You would logically make a judgment based on the majority which is white because, you know history. 😂😂
Some of the people who are fairer (Mixed) is because of the history of slavery that East Africans had suffered by Arab people (East African Slave Trade) or West Africans by Europeans (Transatlantic slave trade), or colonization we weren't always so mixed.
White (European) people have been here since 1788 and my family between 1970 and 2000's 😂😂
So like obviously the majority will be white. That's like common sense.
And a judgment like that Africa is black, isn't based on the minority in the continent who is white or Arab, but the majority who is black.
😂😂😂🤣🤣
That's just my opinion.
Why?
@@Anastazka00 They did not have the basic knowledge of South Africa, and they kept of using pronouns to exclude themselves from the context of South Africa, but that misconception of "Africans are black", they were quick to use words like, "WE". My thoughts exactly! They have embarrassed us to kingdom come!
Yeah, they are colons. Mind you, actual Americans (here it's shot in Canada) are not whites either. The colon biais shows.
@The505Guys Read me again, don't be lazy

Let me just say this I am JAMAICAN and i can tell you the persons representing South Africa in this video was making my spirit boil ESPECIALLY THE MAN
That's because they arent representing us well. South Africans are not the way they have been portraying us.
How can you not boil when they had a lot of bad shit to say about us. I mean they just had to choose them white people didn't they? This made me angry am not gonna lie and the level of offensiveness was high I can tell you that.

that south african guy kept referring to Africans as "they" instead of '"we". which is why everyone is always complaining about the south african representation in these videos

Thank you for your sincerity kind regards.
So you couldn't find one black South African? Not one? Oh ok👀

@Oscar How am I a colonizer when I am black, get your facts straight
@Oscar So I'm not supposed to argue with a fellow black person, because of our race! That's the problem with a democratic regime, just because the majority says yes that doesn't mean the minority is wrong, I am black and I have my own philosophy about such matters, just because I don't follow what the majority of blacks believe that doesn't make me white!
@Oscar what makes a person African? their melanin content, their blood, their ancestral blood line, their roots of origin or a Vibe of African'ity, if say Whites are not native I wonder how Egyptians feel about that, and to come to truth us black people are not the native people of southern Africa, its the Khoisan/Bushmen and fun fact they are not black!

"we colonized it and we are a different shade" 👀👀
