John I served in the Australian Army for just on 1/4 of a century and we have always been treated like mushrooms.
Governments always procured either shiny shit we didn't need or the cheapest version of the stuff that we did.
Also a sad fact the the suicide rate in the veteran community is way over the average.
The Maj may be looking at a term in the slot for speaking out, but others think they can't speak out without dobbing in a fellow digger.
They may be fighting with the devil's of the mind for what they were ordered to do, or did on instinct and may think the only way out is to to end it all.
They say war is he'll it ain't.
War is shit and always rolls down hill and lands on some poor bugger at the bottom.
Old men send young men to fight their useless wars.

Shiny shit is right. I've just retired from working on a base, and was never surprised at all the shiny shit parading around.. things like vehicles with so much tech that a trailer is needed for the spare wheel. Ridiculous.
McBride makes this point at length about the idiocy of our 'justice' system apparently coming down on diggers, rather than the decision makers who put them in shitty situations. What I found especially insightful was his comments about how in many ways, our conduct in war is decided by the PR / propaganda factors, over and above military realities, and how this specifically involves leadership being culpable. But you'll never see an officer on trial. Much less a politician.
I’ve said it before. THis needs to be a regular Podcast , Australia needs a podcast like this

I second this, John. I'd not heard of you before seeing this video on Michael's channel, but i definitely feel you'd be a welcomed commentator on Australian politics. You show a real knack for interviewing and you can tell you're informed and passionate about the topics being discussed. Subbed. Would love to see more.

I mean, if this doesn't highlight the decay of "Straya" when looking at its political and media landscape, then I don't know what does.
I mean we are literally resorting to listening to a car journo and an independent journo talking in a garage about all of the issues we currently face as a combined population, because we simply can't receive this information neutrally and unbiasedly elsewhere.
Tomorrow this needs to change, we are better then this Australia....or atleast I hope we are.

The issue is that they want use the security classification to suit them using the portion that
"THE COMPROMISE OF INFORMATION WOULD DAMAGE THE NATIONAL INTEREST, ORGANISATIONS OR INDIVIDUALS"
usually focusing on the individuals component as themselves being embarrassed thus being a DAMAGED INDIVIDUAL OR ORGANISATION to whom they belong to but deliberately forgetting the part that
"PROPER USE FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF MATERIALS IS NOT CONSISTENT WITH THIS POLICY TO APPLY A SECURITY CLASSIFICATION TO INFORMATION IN ORDER TO HIDE VIOLATIONS OF LAW, INEFFICIENCY, OR ADMINISTRATIVE ERROR TO PREVENT EMBARRASSMENT TO AN INDIVIDUAL, ORGANISATION OR ENTITY"
as this only suggests that it should not be used to classify the embarrassing material/information to hide it, but does not explicitly make it illegal

A-10, one of my favourite Aircraft, even my 8 year old cannot understand why they scraped them, and asked why the Australian government doesn’t buy them cheap from the USA government from the aircraft graveyards.
I suspect that we could buy a lot of A-10’s for one F-35 😉
Puting the F35's issues aside, A10 is a great platform asset in a asymmetrical warfare, where there is a total control of airspace by one side, ability to loiter over the battlefield and the amount of and type of ordinance it can deliver is a massive asset multiplier.
In a battlefield where the opposition has significant effectively employed assets which prevent air domination of the airspace, these type of aircraft are highly vulnerable due to their flight characteristics and airframe limitations (speed/radar signature). Yes, A10 has armour protection and significant flight control redundancy, but these are build into the airframe design as factors of last resort, it is not a primary design consideration.
@@stanmarks3950 well said mate and I agree. The “Real Engineering” channel on RUclips has a wonderful video on the A-10 and also the F-35… When he goes into the engineering details of the F-35 it’s really very amazing.
Heaven forbid that we enter another situation where we will actually get to see what the F-35 can and cannot do - I don’t think we will really know their true capabilities, and/or if their reliability issues and capability issues are politically/business motivated or not…

John are you going to check out the issue with the Holden Colorado auto transmission failing, there a huge vibration problem from torque converter , I believe there's a class action against GM in the states , oil issues . I believe it's 2016-2019
AL45 transmission.

I was already a subscriber to Michael West, and have now subscribed to David McBride's channel as well.
I was shocked to find that, as of 21/5/22, David McBride had less than 1000 subscribers. His story is very much more imoprtant than that and deserves the attention of the nation.
P.S. I'm a former (and sometimes current) chin scratcher.
