I'm a brand new cca and I gotta say I love it. I like the exercise, I like being alone delivering mail and getting it done. I'm also a girlie girl, but I came from being a nurse assistant in nursing homes which toe is by far way more stressful and unbearable and bad wages. I appreciate this Job because I came from a worse place.
I’ve been a mail carrier for 20 years and love my job . Of course it’s hard at first but when you get it you get it . This job keeps you in good health from the walking and from the fresh air . Postal service has no layoffs but we can’t strike . That’s the stability
Good points. I worked 27 years for the post office as a city carrier, and it has changed a lot. I know you young people were not working back in 1994 for the post office, and I really do understand what it's like to start your career today, as compared to when I did. Back when i started the job was nothing like today in a lot of of ways (too many to mention). I was spoiled working there, and the job was no where near as stressful. Honestly, I started later in life (I was 32 when I started), but a lot younger than most people. Most were my parents age. The routes were a lot shorter, there was no DPS, or scanners back then. You had to rack every letter and flat, so your office time was much, much longer. Then, automation came in to cut back on office time (which led to routes being longer and eliminated), then came the internet that impacted the mail volume, and eventually Amazon got on the scene and partnered with the postal service. Today, the Postal service is more like UPS, and gets most of it's revenue from package delivery. Wages were a lot higher for new employees, and everything was better. What I don't like is the trucks are the same as 30 years ago, and delivering more packages on your route adds time to your route, and takes more of a toll on your body, especially finding it amongst the many others you have.
I worked usps for just over thirty and 5 years retired. Most of new hires would not even recognize what it was like back then. No automation. No scanners.
Hello, I put 16 months in as a CCA, I left 12/21 and I been bouncing from job to job these past 4 months and struggling financially. I left the post office because of a bad manager and a foot injury. I made the decision to go back to the post office because I need a stable job and overtime hours and I definitely need to get my steps in. Good luck!!!
I’m about 2 1/2 months into working at USPS. As a “girly girl” myself, a lot of people are shocked that I still show up every week. It definitely is a physically demanding and slightly dirty job. Current pros: Overtime $$$$ Most of the people at my station are friendly with me. Great supervisor Cons: Poor management -the Postmaster is okay but she’s based at my cities main station so it’s just a manager and supervisor at our main station. The manager has to be the worst manager I’ve ever had. I’m curious to know what the hiring process is for managers. How someone like her can land a managerial role is slightly concerning. -poor communication -zero on the job training. Because of this, I’ve made so many mistakes since I started that could’ve been avoided had I received the actual 5 day training they mentioned I’d have at orientation. So much drama and gossip. Some people can be pretty negative as well but I try not to let it get to me and keep a positive attitude…that or I put on my headphones. 😅
Wow!! I can definitely relate to you. As I am too what you would consider a “girly girl” haha but somehow I keep showing up week after week 😄👏 great job!! I hope it gets better with management, mines isn’t too horrible actually
Hang in there because management comes & goes. People get in the management area because they might know someone in management (buddy buddy, kissy kissy, family member). Work hard, do your best effort & BE SAFE!
You’re supposed to go to “Carrier Academy” immediately or soon after Orientation. It’s a 4 day practical course. You really should talk to your shop steward.
I recently quit I was 4 months in. I was mad everyday after I came home from work. It was taking away my happiness. I won't ever do the post office. My respects to yall!!
I’m actually going to resign this week (hopefully) because I feel the same exact way you’re feeling right now. It’s just not right the amount of abuse a CCA gets and it seems pretty archaic how this all works in my opinion. I just cannot manage my life with the post office hours and they’re not willing to accommodate at all.
@@BiancaSanabria Depends what you want. If you want work/life balance you can probably forget about it. Management sucks, at least where I was at. They basically drove me to quit with their "antics". I just kept having this impending feeling I would eventually be fired in my 90 days so I quit. The reason for that was so I could still reapply at post office down the line, in some other capacity. The money is pretty good. Before I left I was netting up to $3K bi-weekly. And not like a one off thing either, you'll make that more often than not (depending on your office). I personally wouldn't even mind going back as a CCA but that's because of things I know now. When I was there though there was a lot of the bosses just basically throwing us to the wolves, with no training, no explanation of anything, and plenty of negative remarks if you didn't get done in time (what did they expect?). I'd only go back because my learning curve isn't nearly as steep now. Other thing: OJI was basically useless to me. My trainer hardly taught me anything important. You can't just pass off a new hire onto a random carrier and expect it to work out. Is that carrier a good communicator? Does he understand what new hires are up against? For example at my office most career carriers barely knew how to use scanners because they had less parcels and also knew their routes like the backs of their hands so didn't need GPS. I learned most stuff from academy and from talking to other new hires who taught me little bits and pieces. Managers were basically useless because they had no experience delivering mail and parcels. Yet they were also telling carriers how to do their jobs? Does that make sense? I think I could have do a better job as an OJI instructor than my guy, and he worked there for 10 years, I was there for a little under two months. Nice guy, but not not really fit to be training people IMO. I keep hearing about "good offices" but I seriously doubt the difference between the two are THAT much. Maybe my office just tainted my perception? It's a lot of 'people in managerial roles with no real qualifications for those roles'. Seems to be a "thing" these days because before CCA I was support staff at a high school and dealt with the exact same issue. No further comment regarding that...
Sadly a year and 3 months later and I think I've given it all I can. I came close to regular but I just don't see myself wanting to do 30 plus years here and still being happy with my life. If anything I'm more so angry everyday and I'm taking that home with me. I tried but I'm out with no one wanting to do this job, and the short staff at my office that we are dealing with. 16 hour days aren't for me.
1983 till 2018 City Carrier , started as PTF took 5 yrs to become regular . That was in 1983 with small Jeeps , mail volume was nothing like it is now . And people smoked inside the buildings . I could go on and on . But when I worked 2 jobs in 1982 and then started work in May of 1983 I made more with the Post Office . That was the foundation that helped me navigate through all of the bullshit and heartache . Now here I'm 5yrs retired grateful for those 35 yrs . All jobs have pros and cons . Easy to quit in anything. 5 yrs became , 10 , 10 became 20 . 35yrs would have made my WW2 22yr Navy vet dad proud to stick it out .
The core actions of the job I love walking and being outside. What kills my soul is two things.. One all the negative attitudes caused by management. I have a supervisor who thinks you should be able to do a new route on time on day one. They never carried mail and it shows. This job beats us up we don't need to be doing it to each other. The underhanded tactics used by both sides of the fence just really bring me down. 2. Mounted routes, I'm a 6ft 4in guy so me on mounted routes ends up killing my back as the llv's where not built for tall people. Keep me on the ground.
I swear I revived an old knee injury due to the llv. I’m 6’2 and depending on how you jump out depends if you bang your knee on a particular area of the llv lol
I literally just resigned from USPS this past Friday. I live in Phoenix and they had me work 12+ days in a row with 10+ hours a day in weather thats 110+ degrees. So I left it literally took over my life. I was getting sick. I was never home. Couldn't ever spend time with my son. So I decided to leave. I just passed my probation period. I also was burned out with 3 hour relays days in and day out.
Noon! Really sorry to hear but I definitely get it and understand. Honestly, all you had to do was say I never see my son and you would've had enough reason for me. Family and children are everything. Hate to see you quit but I understand. I wish you the best in the future.
My husband is a CCA and we feel like we barely see him. He is going to miss our daughter's birthday. i researched this job and heard all the bad stuff. tried to convince him money wasn't everything but he wanted to do it. :( I understand your reasons and I think you did the right thing.

Gotta get through the bad to get to the good. Did 21 years in the Army. Now I'm a regular on work assignment. Hated taking a step back being a CCA. I don't have any college and working on my second retirement. Gotta do your due diligence.
I first started out as an RCA and did a great job with it. Did that for a year and a half then transferred to the local plant (applied to a public posting). Got that job as a PSE Mail Processing Clerk. Did that for 10 months and became regular. After being regular for about 4 months, I like it but I miss being a carrier so I put in an eReassign request to transfer to my local office as a full-time city carrier.

In the Los Angeles USPS, I've also seen newbies that aren't properly dressed-showup wearing dresses with makeup & kids straight out of high school. It looks like only 2% of the new hires stay with the USPS. Stable job, decent pay and benefits is the reason I chose this job. I'm glad to have chosen this job. I only have a high school degree. @@JB-cs4jt At least once a month, a text appears on the scanners coming from another Post Office requesting volunteers to help deliver mail. Stations from San Francisco, San Jose, Bakersfield San Diego, just about anywhere in California. Of course all housing/travel is paid by USPS. The N.A.L.C. doesn't approve of this since it short staffs stations that the Letter Carriers is already working at. The assignment usually lasts only about a month but at our station, 1 person is still working at the L.A. downtown station since Nov. If you are just starting as a CCA, you won't have to worry about working that far away. It only pertains to REGULAR Letter Carriers. Work hard, be safe & good luck!
Every situation is different at each post office. I worked as a CCA. I worked for 4 months and never got my 30 day or 60 day evaluations not until almost 90 days. Then was released 2 weeks before probation. I was given 3 days a week schedule and worked 4 & 5 day work weeks twice. The supervisor felt threatened that I inquired about supervisory positions. I worked very hard every chance/opportunity I had and always took any shift offered. My experience was unorganized as I often was not given my paper work until after the shift ended. And route maps weren’t given or they seemed irritated if I as for it and expected us to know whole routes by heart despite doing just pieces a few times. Out of the 8 of us that graduated from the academy in our class only one of us are still working. He was given shifts working 7 days a week and his own route within the first two months. We all got injured but never call out sick as it meant getting fired, but was not given a bereavement day to attend a funeral either. Every office is different. It’s hard work and you’ve got to be smart and consistent. What I heard now is people are made full time much sooner which is good news, but pay was cut by $12,000 per year and to make it up full timers need to work a 6th day or overtime. The best benefit is getting vested then you’ll get free medical for life aka Tri-care like the retired military. I think it takes at least 7 -10 years to max out your pay. All info on USPS is online, but it’s good to watch videos from carriers too to get insight.
Yea I’ve been a regular for about 7 years now and what you’re saying is true. When most ccas quit most of them have no idea what the regular pay scale is or what the pension looks like. They just look at the cca hourly wage and give up.
I worked at USPS 2015-2022. I recently made career last year as a PTF mail carrier. The Postmaster created a hostile work environment in the workplace with bullying, gaslighting, racism, and overall BS I had to put up w/carrying mail wasn’t worth it. I worked 6 days a week, wasn’t allowed to be sick&paid for insurance I never got to use. Management was changing my clock rings and taking my annual/sick leave I earned to include it in my check. I was left out on the street delivering while all my coworkers left and went home. The Postmaster loved division in that office and fed off of it. I filed EEOC and they turned it back around on me. I called the Postal Inspectors and The Department of Labor, and nothing was done. My union steward sat there and let management tear me apart and did nothing to defend me. He would not file a grievance or anything. You have no life outside of that place because your body and mind is so exhausted. If you are CCA they can work you 6 days every week without a day off. Also you have to fill in within a 50 mile radius to deliver mail. I would not recommend this job to anyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re regular, they treat you the same way.
I feel you, I quit the post office in May 2021 and became a trucker. I was a mail carrier for 5 years, 3 as a CCA and 2 as a regular. It's no longer a career where it's possible to reach retirement. The biggest issue is management and how they treated us like crap. I wish you the best of luck.

Going Postal, people laugh and joke about it. My best advice is to leave, management doesn’t see you. I would not recommend this job to anyone. I certainly didn’t take the option for therapy to stay in that BS. I’ll take less pay! Peace and Blessings to you. What’s the point of the benefits you don’t get to use? My body was wearing down fast that I wouldn’t get to enjoy retirement.
@@JuiceJ443 Very well said. It was hard for me to quit cuz I was raised with good work ethics, USPS broke me physically and mentally. The final straw for me was when I saw how they treated the seniors who were loyal and worked hard for the company, exactly like CCAs, the benefits/retirement meant nothing if it's no longer possible to even make it. I'm glad I left, I'm making the same money in a week and have my weekends to myself. I really hope you find something better. Like you stated even if the pay is lower, you will be way more relaxed. It's a shame how many people don't realize how difficult and unprofessional the post office has become, especially with their employees. My manager from my first location wanted me to give the station a positive review on yelp, I did not.
I worked for the Post Office for roughly 5 years, 3 as a CCA & 2 as a regular. I quit because of management. The way they overworked us, it would have been impossible to make it to retirement. And let me tell you, it doesn't get better when you convert to a regular. Management still treated the regulars & seniors as CCAs. Even the carriers with medical conditions or a doctor's note were still forced to work more than they should. The Post Office used to be good, but now it's just terrible. Trust me, find another career, the pension ain't worth it if it means sacrificing your personal life and body.
@@CalUsviFl Yeah my guy, I was even transferred to a supposedly "better" station, and it was good for like a couple of months, but then went downhill quick. It just sucks cuz I really liked the job, but management made it impossible.
I agreed that job sucks. I did cca for over 3 months end I Quit. Managers don’t know how to speak to people. Never one time they said anything positive to the cca. The only thing I did was loosing 82 lbs. I feel really sick for weeks after loosing all that weight.

I just quit yesterday. Part of me feels terrible because the pay was really good. But it wasn’t worth all the stress and headaches literally. I was placed in a terrible office at first finishing around 8:008:30pm, managed to get out of there somehow. Then got placed in a MUCH better office where I had a hold down on a route where I was finishing around 3:30 4pm. Everything was great now because everything was clicking and came naturally. But when I started getting sent out to other stations, that’s when I was done. Yesterday I completed my route did a piece on another regulars route at my office. Then I had to go to two different stations to do pieces. Like what time was I going to get home m?? Lol being lost all the time sucked and never knowing when you were going to come home was the worst feeling.
I just can’t do the inconsistency of schedules, not knowing if I’ll get hours or be called in on my day off. Im literally scheduled for 2 days next week, sat and sun it’s ridiculous i can’t live off working 2 days a week!? They hired way to many people
Go to other offices, outsource yourself. You can do that, and it can give you more experience and the other offices may like you. You have the power, not them.

For me, I personally LOVED the job itself. Being a CCA was my best job ever..HOWEVER, management eventually made it unbearable and ultimately resulted in my submission of an official EEOC complaint for harassment. I really wish people, especially women, weren't so catty in the work force.

Being a CCA is tough not going to lie working six days and one day off cant really do anything. Im about to hit 120 hours in two weeks thats insanity I dont get back home until 8 and yall want advice take your lunch break in air conditioning place real talk and take your time when you know your pace.

This job made me physically and mentally ill. The office was a cesspool of negativity and toxicity. Only lasted two months before calling it quits. The money is just not good enough for the level of bullshit carriers have to go through
Hey, Mike. My PTF conversion is in less than 2 weeks. I love my people, but September 2020 I started my side business fixing computers (technician). My wife is currently enrolled started August of this year to get her LPN. My current hours are going to allow me to support her remaining year in school, but once she is done I'm going to start hopping into IT and leave it behind. I'll miss my people (small town), but you gotta do what you love. Right?
Hey man I’m starting as a CCA Monday with current pay schedule of 18.92. I see that there are multiple schedules released throughout previous years - it looks like at least 2 or 3 last year where the pays all increase with each schedule. I’m having a really hard time finding some clarity on this, but say a new schedule comes out in June and says for the starting CCA they now start at 20.05, so I get a pay increase as well or are new hires making more money than me?
Kinda depends on the size of your office since you are going to be covering whatever regular carrier has their day off so it can make casing mail a bitch since you will be unfamiliar with how every route runs. Best suggestion would be to talk to the other carriers on espicailly if you have an T6 carriers on how that route is ran so you can case and pull it down properly. Also try to hold down routes whenever a regular is taking time off. Eventually you will develop your own method that works best for you though
It's partially physical but in my opinion and time here mostly mental...seeing all the mail and packages for someone new can automatically deter them especially if you're on a route that's always heavy..when it's all said and done you'll get a rhythm and it won't matter what route you're on ITS JUST MAIL! 🤷🏽♂️
Been grinding for a while now as well.. Can't see my self doing this for another 20 years.. Over worked.. Just plain and simple.. Need more subs. I'm all for working hard but with poor management,no help, hardly get a day off. Always splitting routes.. At this point personally the cons outweigh the pros.
man i just got my conditional offer today. I just did ride alongs for fed ex, and a milk/food delivery company while going through the hiring processes there so im sure im cool with the physical side of things. Somehow neither of those companies hired me though and I really got no clue why, everything seemed pretty smooth. Im 36 so Im not really trying to become a 30 year veteran, but id like to put in 2 -3 years make some bank and try to get to regular status and atlleast try that out for a while, then maybe consider how much longer I want to work there for. But all these people complaining about management and saying they doing 14 hour days got me a little spooked. I mean Im 36 and single, so I really aint got a family or much of a social life right now so im cool putting in 60/70 hours a week for those 2 years or whatever, but if Im doing 80+ hours a week i dont think ill be able to manage that for very long at all, i mean i got work ethic, but i still need to sleep shower eat and grocery shop.

Keep applying. I'm a little confused on why they would decline you or catch you. Call HR and talk to them and ask them what's going on with your application and online profile.
Thank you for the advice, my question is if once you become a regular and you want to transfer out to another state do you lose your regular status also, how can you request for a transfer to another state as regular.
Great question, there are multiple ways to transfer as a regular and in all of those you do not lose your "regular" status at all. Best and most beneficial is to do what we call a mutual swap which is finding someone that wants to transfer to where you're currently at and they are where you're wanting to go. Might sounds impossible but it's not. I have a guy in my office that is moving to Colorado and he's doing a mutual swap. The thing about swapping is they get your route, you get their route, you get their seniority and they get yours. Another way is to put in simply for a transfer but once you transfer you lose your seniority and start over as far as vacation bidding and if they force people to work overtime.

The only reason I'm asking is because I am going to start as a CCA in Pasadena California, but I want to live in Nevada, because my only daughter lives there and I want to be closer to her.

I am going to be looking for a new job once I retire from the military in a couple of years. Just wondering if this is a good job for a retired military married with 2 kids? Don’t work at the USPS. I’m a career regular, albeit a Mail handler and if you’re expecting team work, there’s none. It’s a very divisive environment and they really don’t pay that great. I know I’m replying to you months after you commented but since you’re in the SD area, you’re better off working for a defense contractor in your area. You’ll get paid way more and vets get treated better. I hope this helps and thank you for your service
YOU MUST OBEY Even when... My daily route covered only 72 % of possible delivers With circulars coverd 97 % ( have a few vacant houses) With over 240 extra stops was told Circulars DO NOT ADD TIME! That was policy for entire office. Great . union gets discipline thrown out Yet still end up discilplined and even suspended Does not help pay bills while waiting on grievance
I haven't even become a CCA yet and I'm leaving. I have no time for garbage organzations that don't answer emails or calls after I accept their job offers.
I’ve watched over 100 videos from different creators who work for the USPS and I am constantly hearing problems with management and I am bewildered at the fact that management don’t understand that happy workers make for a good environment and happy workers will be willing to do their job. also why isn’t the union doing anything about these poor managers and why are these poor managers forcing potentially good CCA‘s from their positions within 0 to 5 years?
Keep in mind that things are different now than even a few years ago, and a lot depends on what station you’re assigned to. Also happy people don’t tend to go online and talk about it, unlike disgruntled employees. Every company is dysfunctional to a certain degree, and there are good and bad managers in every company. The Post Office is no different, but unlike a corporate job it does have a sense of mission, and an enduring role in the community. I’ve had a very positive experience so far. YMMV.
I don't mind working couple hours as ARC which checks are good just for 1 day out of week. I do have another job during the week so that's some good side money with postal . keep it up man
I have a question in my office I have not been called to work in the last 2 weeks and I am not on the schedule as before, I want to continue working and I have sent messages to my supervisor about what happens if I have done something wrong. Why don't I go to work more often and he just tells me that the week is slow, is that true or what should I do? I only have working 5 months, but this started to happen in the last 2 weeks

It’s a hard job and I quit on my second week. I don’t mind the hard work but it wasn’t for me. I had racist customers on my route because I was Mexican.
Right now, I'd say maybe 3 years because you'll have to be a cca for at least 2 years and you could possibly get a route in 2 years but to be safe I say about 3 years.

Mike, ok answer this, why are the veterans in the post office so RUDE and NASTY to new carriers? It is not the job per say, it the NASTIEST of these managers. As an adult I can handle correction, and be thick skinned,but to be disrespected everyday while learning that' mind boggling.
I have just passed 474 assessment exam with 82 points, but I got disappointed reading the comments. I think I have to change my mind regarding joining this job, CCA.
@@michaelmyersplays4992 idk man I got hired into a small post office with six routes and two ccas the postmaster said that I would be covering them when they have a day off and anytime a regular has a day off I asked and he said I would be getting two days a week. Is that right or do you think he is lying just wondering!?
Could it be the reason people leave the post office is because the postal service does not give enough hours to cca's to being home a decent pay check to take care of their families? And lay offs are bad?

Once it is full you'll receive a note on your door that you will not receive any more mail until it is empty. Make sure all Your affairs are in order before you do so. They will quit sending you garbage and you can forget about checking the mailbox.
I work as a mail carrier for over 3 months. I Quit the job. Is really hard job. The only good thing that happen to me was loosing 82 lbs. everything else suck. The manager was really mean guy. Everyday I work in the post office they give me different routes to delivery the mail. I learn about 13 routes some days I couldn’t finish the mail. Because I didn’t know the route. End the manager get upset. I really kill my self working every day for over 3 months. End the manager never one time say anything positive to my work. So one day. I just give the keys to the guy end I said I Quit.
I know what you mean Carlos. I resigned from CCA. A particular supervisor gave me long azz routes I didn't know, just feeding me to the wolves every day and expecting me to get it done! Here's 3 hours' worth of mail that has 5 hours of walking to go along with it! Gtfoh, people are crazy to think a CCA can just do different routes every day. Not even giving us the opportunity to at least do a route for 2 weeks straight till mastered it. Nope. Go faster, go faster, your moving too slow. Smh. Cons: my weight plunged too low made me start to look sickly. Can have that CCA position. Now I'm doing RCA because it's not walking all mounted and no tremendous weight loss anymore. Others might welcome losing weight like that I don't.

Nah they working for something better is they know how to leverage themselves. USPS workers are the sad burn outs just lying to themselves that their job is ok🤣🤣🤣
Such a high percentage of new CCAs quit because of many reasons, but I think it is safe to assume that a lack of work ethic is the main reason. Not everyone is meant to endure physicality. Not everyone is meant to endure the mental wear and tear. And definitely not many are able to handle both at the same time. To do so with integrity AND taking pride in the service provided, there will be rewards later in life.
@@boredsoim01 You have to start somewhere and pay your dues is what we used to call it. You can't be a victim in this world all the time. You always have a choice. The pride you have is your doing your job woth integrity and nobody can take that away except you.
I think its work life balance. You can't expect someone new to learn so many routes .. and work massive amt of OT without regular days off. Everyone needs a schedule with at least one day or two days off per week. Newbees aren't regulars and it appears that many managers take advantage of these people which is just wrong.
@@jimmywalters3071 I think you make some valid points to an extent, but like I said;, the main reason in my opinion is work ethic. We have evolved to an extent where we are much different than our grandparents or great grandparents. If you tell someone from the era of either above that it's too much to work as a CCA - so many hours without life balance, they'll probably look at you like you're nuts. I am not suggesting that we should remain in the past, but we are talking about a small period of time, in context, where someone has to log so many hours and maybe even taken advantage of. The main point here is there IS a reward(s) after the initial "newbie" phase at the USPS. It just takes a lot of will power and stamina to get there. Nobody is saying someone has to work or even stay at the USPS, there are plenty of other places to rest with a more stable schedule. I just personally find it amusing when people whine about it, just tuck the tail and move on. Of course I kid some with my matter of fact style speak, but it is what it is.

I keep watching videos about bad ,mean ,disrespectful managers that scream or get upset at cca for reasons like not being able to do a route complete it or any little thing just upset at the cca. Also I dotnbahve shoes I can't afford them to start off with I am scared of starting either new shoes just another question .. ANYONE can help answer me with this it's bothering me

I'm a brand new cca and I gotta say I love it. I like the exercise, I like being alone delivering mail and getting it done. I'm also a girlie girl, but I came from being a nurse assistant in nursing homes which toe is by far way more stressful and unbearable and bad wages. I appreciate this Job because I came from a worse place.

I’ve been a mail carrier for 20 years and love my job . Of course it’s hard at first but when you get it you get it . This job keeps you in good health from the walking and from the fresh air . Postal service has no layoffs but we can’t strike . That’s the stability

Good points. I worked 27 years for the post office as a city carrier, and it has changed a lot. I know you young people were not working back in 1994 for the post office, and I really do understand what it's like to start your career today, as compared to when I did. Back when i started the job was nothing like today in a lot of of ways (too many to mention). I was spoiled working there, and the job was no where near as stressful. Honestly, I started later in life (I was 32 when I started), but a lot younger than most people. Most were my parents age. The routes were a lot shorter, there was no DPS, or scanners back then. You had to rack every letter and flat, so your office time was much, much longer. Then, automation came in to cut back on office time (which led to routes being longer and eliminated), then came the internet that impacted the mail volume, and eventually Amazon got on the scene and partnered with the postal service. Today, the Postal service is more like UPS, and gets most of it's revenue from package delivery. Wages were a lot higher for new employees, and everything was better. What I don't like is the trucks are the same as 30 years ago, and delivering more packages on your route adds time to your route, and takes more of a toll on your body, especially finding it amongst the many others you have.

I worked usps for just over thirty and 5 years retired. Most of new hires would not even recognize what it was like back then. No automation. No scanners.

Hello, I put 16 months in as a CCA, I left 12/21 and I been bouncing from job to job these past 4 months and struggling financially. I left the post office because of a bad manager and a foot injury. I made the decision to go back to the post office because I need a stable job and overtime hours and I definitely need to get my steps in. Good luck!!!
Put in for the plant in the post office mail processing clerk they start of at $19.12. It is a lot easier and less stressful!

I’m about 2 1/2 months into working at USPS. As a “girly girl” myself, a lot of people are shocked that I still show up every week. It definitely is a physically demanding and slightly dirty job.

-the Postmaster is okay but she’s based at my cities main station so it’s just a manager and supervisor at our main station. The manager has to be the worst manager I’ve ever had.
I’m curious to know what the hiring process is for managers. How someone like her can land a managerial role is slightly concerning.

Because of this, I’ve made so many mistakes since I started that could’ve been avoided had I received the actual 5 day training they mentioned I’d have at orientation.

You’re supposed to go to “Carrier Academy” immediately or soon after Orientation. It’s a 4 day practical course. You really should talk to your shop steward.

I’m actually going to resign this week (hopefully) because I feel the same exact way you’re feeling right now. It’s just not right the amount of abuse a CCA gets and it seems pretty archaic how this all works in my opinion. I just cannot manage my life with the post office hours and they’re not willing to accommodate at all.
I’m worried about that. I’m mad already and me going into that will be my nightmare 🥺
@@BiancaSanabria Depends what you want. If you want work/life balance you can probably forget about it. Management sucks, at least where I was at. They basically drove me to quit with their "antics". I just kept having this impending feeling I would eventually be fired in my 90 days so I quit. The reason for that was so I could still reapply at post office down the line, in some other capacity.
The money is pretty good. Before I left I was netting up to $3K bi-weekly. And not like a one off thing either, you'll make that more often than not (depending on your office).
I personally wouldn't even mind going back as a CCA but that's because of things I know now. When I was there though there was a lot of the bosses just basically throwing us to the wolves, with no training, no explanation of anything, and plenty of negative remarks if you didn't get done in time (what did they expect?). I'd only go back because my learning curve isn't nearly as steep now.
Other thing: OJI was basically useless to me. My trainer hardly taught me anything important. You can't just pass off a new hire onto a random carrier and expect it to work out. Is that carrier a good communicator? Does he understand what new hires are up against? For example at my office most career carriers barely knew how to use scanners because they had less parcels and also knew their routes like the backs of their hands so didn't need GPS. I learned most stuff from academy and from talking to other new hires who taught me little bits and pieces. Managers were basically useless because they had no experience delivering mail and parcels. Yet they were also telling carriers how to do their jobs? Does that make sense?
I think I could have do a better job as an OJI instructor than my guy, and he worked there for 10 years, I was there for a little under two months. Nice guy, but not not really fit to be training people IMO.
I keep hearing about "good offices" but I seriously doubt the difference between the two are THAT much. Maybe my office just tainted my perception? It's a lot of 'people in managerial roles with no real qualifications for those roles'. Seems to be a "thing" these days because before CCA I was support staff at a high school and dealt with the exact same issue. No further comment regarding that...
Sadly a year and 3 months later and I think I've given it all I can. I came close to regular but I just don't see myself wanting to do 30 plus years here and still being happy with my life. If anything I'm more so angry everyday and I'm taking that home with me. I tried but I'm out with no one wanting to do this job, and the short staff at my office that we are dealing with. 16 hour days aren't for me.

1983 till 2018 City Carrier , started as PTF took 5 yrs to become regular . That was in 1983 with small Jeeps , mail volume was nothing like it is now . And people smoked inside the buildings . I could go on and on . But when I worked 2 jobs in 1982 and then started work in May of 1983 I made more with the Post Office . That was the foundation that helped me navigate through all of the bullshit and heartache . Now here I'm 5yrs retired grateful for those 35 yrs . All jobs have pros and cons . Easy to quit in anything. 5 yrs became , 10 , 10 became 20 . 35yrs would have made my WW2 22yr Navy vet dad proud to stick it out .
The core actions of the job I love walking and being outside. What kills my soul is two things.. One all the negative attitudes caused by management. I have a supervisor who thinks you should be able to do a new route on time on day one. They never carried mail and it shows. This job beats us up we don't need to be doing it to each other. The underhanded tactics used by both sides of the fence just really bring me down.
2. Mounted routes, I'm a 6ft 4in guy so me on mounted routes ends up killing my back as the llv's where not built for tall people. Keep me on the ground.

I swear I revived an old knee injury due to the llv. I’m 6’2 and depending on how you jump out depends if you bang your knee on a particular area of the llv lol
I literally just resigned from USPS this past Friday. I live in Phoenix and they had me work 12+ days in a row with 10+ hours a day in weather thats 110+ degrees. So I left it literally took over my life. I was getting sick. I was never home. Couldn't ever spend time with my son. So I decided to leave. I just passed my probation period. I also was burned out with 3 hour relays days in and day out.
Noon! Really sorry to hear but I definitely get it and understand. Honestly, all you had to do was say I never see my son and you would've had enough reason for me. Family and children are everything. Hate to see you quit but I understand. I wish you the best in the future.
No kidding about the 3 hour relays. 17 years in and I still do the 3 hour relays. Summer out in Phoenix is no joke.
My husband is a CCA and we feel like we barely see him. He is going to miss our daughter's birthday. i researched this job and heard all the bad stuff. tried to convince him money wasn't everything but he wanted to do it. :( I understand your reasons and I think you did the right thing.

I first started out as an RCA and did a great job with it. Did that for a year and a half then transferred to the local plant (applied to a public posting). Got that job as a PSE Mail Processing Clerk. Did that for 10 months and became regular. After being regular for about 4 months, I like it but I miss being a carrier so I put in an eReassign request to transfer to my local office as a full-time city carrier.

In the Los Angeles USPS, I've also seen newbies that aren't properly dressed-showup wearing dresses with makeup & kids straight out of high school. It looks like only 2% of the new hires stay with the USPS. Stable job, decent pay and benefits is the reason I chose this job. I'm glad to have chosen this job. I only have a high school degree.

@@JB-cs4jt At least once a month, a text appears on the scanners coming from another Post Office requesting volunteers to help deliver mail. Stations from San Francisco, San Jose, Bakersfield San Diego, just about anywhere in California. Of course all housing/travel is paid by USPS. The N.A.L.C. doesn't approve of this since it short staffs stations that the Letter Carriers is already working at. The assignment usually lasts only about a month but at our station, 1 person is still working at the L.A. downtown station since Nov. If you are just starting as a CCA, you won't have to worry about working that far away. It only pertains to REGULAR Letter Carriers. Work hard, be safe & good luck!

Every situation is different at each post office. I worked as a CCA. I worked for 4 months and never got my 30 day or 60 day evaluations not until almost 90 days. Then was released 2 weeks before probation. I was given 3 days a week schedule and worked 4 & 5 day work weeks twice. The supervisor felt threatened that I inquired about supervisory positions. I worked very hard every chance/opportunity I had and always took any shift offered. My experience was unorganized as I often was not given my paper work until after the shift ended. And route maps weren’t given or they seemed irritated if I as for it and expected us to know whole routes by heart despite doing just pieces a few times.
Out of the 8 of us that graduated from the academy in our class only one of us are still working. He was given shifts working 7 days a week and his own route within the first two months. We all got injured but never call out sick as it meant getting fired, but was not given a bereavement day to attend a funeral either. Every office is different. It’s hard work and you’ve got to be smart and consistent. What I heard now is people are made full time much sooner which is good news, but pay was cut by $12,000 per year and to make it up full timers need to work a 6th day or overtime. The best benefit is getting vested then you’ll get free medical for life aka Tri-care like the retired military. I think it takes at least 7 -10 years to max out your pay. All info on USPS is online, but it’s good to watch videos from carriers too to get insight.
Yea I’ve been a regular for about 7 years now and what you’re saying is true. When most ccas quit most of them have no idea what the regular pay scale is or what the pension looks like. They just look at the cca hourly wage and give up.

I worked at USPS 2015-2022. I recently made career last year as a PTF mail carrier. The Postmaster created a hostile work environment in the workplace with bullying, gaslighting, racism, and overall BS I had to put up w/carrying mail wasn’t worth it. I worked 6 days a week, wasn’t allowed to be sick&paid for insurance I never got to use. Management was changing my clock rings and taking my annual/sick leave I earned to include it in my check. I was left out on the street delivering while all my coworkers left and went home. The Postmaster loved division in that office and fed off of it. I filed EEOC and they turned it back around on me. I called the Postal Inspectors and The Department of Labor, and nothing was done. My union steward sat there and let management tear me apart and did nothing to defend me. He would not file a grievance or anything. You have no life outside of that place because your body and mind is so exhausted. If you are CCA they can work you 6 days every week without a day off. Also you have to fill in within a 50 mile radius to deliver mail. I would not recommend this job to anyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re regular, they treat you the same way.
I feel you, I quit the post office in May 2021 and became a trucker. I was a mail carrier for 5 years, 3 as a CCA and 2 as a regular. It's no longer a career where it's possible to reach retirement. The biggest issue is management and how they treated us like crap. I wish you the best of luck.

Going Postal, people laugh and joke about it. My best advice is to leave, management doesn’t see you. I would not recommend this job to anyone. @@JuiceJ443 Very well said. It was hard for me to quit cuz I was raised with good work ethics, USPS broke me physically and mentally. The final straw for me was when I saw how they treated the seniors who were loyal and worked hard for the company, exactly like CCAs, the benefits/retirement meant nothing if it's no longer possible to even make it. I'm glad I left, I'm making the same money in a week and have my weekends to myself. I really hope you find something better. Like you stated even if the pay is lower, you will be way more relaxed. It's a shame how many people don't realize how difficult and unprofessional the post office has become, especially with their employees. My manager from my first location wanted me to give the station a positive review on yelp, I did not.
I worked for the Post Office for roughly 5 years, 3 as a CCA & 2 as a regular. I quit because of management. The way they overworked us, it would have been impossible to make it to retirement. And let me tell you, it doesn't get better when you convert to a regular. Management still treated the regulars & seniors as CCAs. Even the carriers with medical conditions or a doctor's note were still forced to work more than they should. The Post Office used to be good, but now it's just terrible. Trust me, find another career, the pension ain't worth it if it means sacrificing your personal life and body.

I just quit yesterday. Part of me feels terrible because the pay was really good. But it wasn’t worth all the stress and headaches literally. I was placed in a terrible office at first finishing around 8:00 8:30pm, managed to get out of there somehow. Then got placed in a MUCH better office where I had a hold down on a route where I was finishing around 3:30 4pm.
Everything was great now because everything was clicking and came naturally. But when I started getting sent out to other stations, that’s when I was done. Yesterday I completed my route did a piece on another regulars route at my office. Then I had to go to two different stations to do pieces.
Like what time was I going to get home m?? Lol being lost all the time sucked and never knowing when you were going to come home was the worst feeling.
I just can’t do the inconsistency of schedules, not knowing if I’ll get hours or be called in on my day off. Im literally scheduled for 2 days next week, sat and sun it’s ridiculous i can’t live off working 2 days a week!? They hired way to many people
Go to other offices, outsource yourself. You can do that, and it can give you more experience and the other offices may like you. You have the power, not them.
Get with your union rep and tell them you need more hours.

For me, I personally LOVED the job itself. Being a CCA was my best job ever..HOWEVER, management eventually made it unbearable and ultimately resulted in my submission of an official EEOC complaint for harassment. I really wish people, especially women, weren't so catty in the work force.

Being a CCA is tough not going to lie working six days and one day off cant really do anything. Im about to hit 120 hours in two weeks thats insanity I dont get back home until 8 and yall want advice take your lunch break in air conditioning place real talk and take your time when you know your pace.

Just like boot man. If you go in thinking you’re gonna kill it you’re usually the one who’s gonna get smoked. Seen it first hand. Always told recruits asking me questions about boot to keep an open mind and roll with the punches. You’d be amazed what you’re capable of you just tough it out. I’m about to apply at the usps. Hey, Mike. My PTF conversion is in less than 2 weeks. I love my people, but September 2020 I started my side business fixing computers (technician). My wife is currently enrolled started August of this year to get her LPN. My current hours are going to allow me to support her remaining year in school, but once she is done I'm going to start hopping into IT and leave it behind.
I'll miss my people (small town), but you gotta do what you love. Right?

Hey man I’m starting as a CCA Monday with current pay schedule of 18.92. I see that there are multiple schedules released throughout previous years - it looks like at least 2 or 3 last year where the pays all increase with each schedule. I’m having a really hard time finding some clarity on this, but say a new schedule comes out in June and says for the starting CCA they now start at 20.05, so I get a pay increase as well or are new hires making more money than me?

How long does it take to get used to casing? I'm starting my job as a CCA soon.
Kinda depends on the size of your office since you are going to be covering whatever regular carrier has their day off so it can make casing mail a bitch since you will be unfamiliar with how every route runs. Best suggestion would be to talk to the other carriers on espicailly if you have an T6 carriers on how that route is ran so you can case and pull it down properly. Also try to hold down routes whenever a regular is taking time off. Eventually you will develop your own method that works best for you though
It's partially physical but in my opinion and time here mostly mental...seeing all the mail and packages for someone new can automatically deter them especially if you're on a route that's always heavy..when it's all said and done you'll get a rhythm and it won't matter what route you're on ITS JUST MAIL! 🤷🏽♂️

8 or 8:30am till 7,8 or 9pm. expect 7 to 13 days in a row, 2-3 days off a month.
7:30 to 7:00 on the really bad days.
Been grinding for a while now as well.. Can't see my self doing this for another 20 years.. Over worked.. Just plain and simple.. Need more subs. I'm all for working hard but with poor management,no help, hardly get a day off. Always splitting routes.. At this point personally the cons outweigh the pros.
man i just got my conditional offer today. I just did ride alongs for fed ex, and a milk/food delivery company while going through the hiring processes there so im sure im cool with the physical side of things. Somehow neither of those companies hired me though and I really got no clue why, everything seemed pretty smooth.
Im 36 so Im not really trying to become a 30 year veteran, but id like to put in 2 -3 years make some bank and try to get to regular status and atlleast try that out for a while, then maybe consider how much longer I want to work there for. But all these people complaining about management and saying they doing 14 hour days got me a little spooked. I mean Im 36 and single, so I really aint got a family or much of a social life right now so im cool putting in 60/70 hours a week for those 2 years or whatever, but if Im doing 80+ hours a week i dont think ill be able to manage that for very long at all, i mean i got work ethic, but i still need to sleep shower eat and grocery shop.

Keep applying. I'm a little confused on why they would decline you or catch you. Call HR and talk to them and ask them what's going on with your application and online profile.

Great question, there are multiple ways to transfer as a regular and in all of those you do not lose your "regular" status at all. Best and most beneficial is to do what we call a mutual swap which is finding someone that wants to transfer to where you're currently at and they are where you're wanting to go. Might sounds impossible but it's not. I have a guy in my office that is moving to Colorado and he's doing a mutual swap. The thing about swapping is they get your route, you get their route, you get their seniority and they get yours. Another way is to put in simply for a transfer but once you transfer you lose your seniority and start over as far as vacation bidding and if they force people to work overtime.

Don’t work at the USPS. I’m a career regular, albeit a Mail handler and if you’re expecting team work, there’s none. It’s a very divisive environment and they really don’t pay that great. I know I’m replying to you months after you commented but since you’re in the SD area, you’re better off working for a defense contractor in your area. You’ll get paid way more and vets get treated better. I hope this helps and thank you for your service

YOU MUST OBEY Even when... My daily route covered only 72 % of possible delivers With circulars coverd 97 % ( have a few vacant houses) With over 240 extra stops was told Circulars DO NOT ADD TIME! That was policy for entire office. Great . union gets discipline thrown out Yet still end up discilplined and even suspended Does not help pay bills while waiting on grievance

I’ve watched over 100 videos from different creators who work for the USPS and I am constantly hearing problems with management and I am bewildered at the fact that management don’t understand that happy workers make for a good environment and happy workers will be willing to do their job. also why isn’t the union doing anything about these poor managers and why are these poor managers forcing potentially good CCA‘s from their positions within 0 to 5 years?
Keep in mind that things are different now than even a few years ago, and a lot depends on what station you’re assigned to. Also happy people don’t tend to go online and talk about it, unlike disgruntled employees.
Every company is dysfunctional to a certain degree, and there are good and bad managers in every company. The Post Office is no different, but unlike a corporate job it does have a sense of mission, and an enduring role in the community. I’ve had a very positive experience so far. YMMV.

I have a question in my office I have not been called to work in the last 2 weeks and I am not on the schedule as before, I want to continue working and I have sent messages to my supervisor about what happens if I have done something wrong. If you are a rural carrier that’s more than likely true. You didn’t do anything wrong if you wanna work hard switch to a cca.

Right now, I'd say maybe 3 years because you'll have to be a cca for at least 2 years and you could possibly get a route in 2 years but to be safe I say about 3 years.

Mike, ok answer this, why are the veterans in the post office so RUDE and NASTY to new carriers? It is not the job per say, it the NASTIEST of these managers. As an adult I can handle correction, and be thick skinned,but to be disrespected everyday while learning that' mind boggling.

Once it is full you'll receive a note on your door that you will not receive any more mail until it is empty. Make sure all Your affairs are in order before you do so. They will quit sending you garbage and you can forget about checking the mailbox.
I work as a mail carrier for over 3 months. I Quit the job. Is really hard job. The only good thing that happen to me was loosing 82 lbs. everything else suck. The manager was really mean guy. Everyday I work in the post office they give me different routes to delivery the mail. I learn about 13 routes some days I couldn’t finish the mail. Because I didn’t know the route. End the manager get upset. I really kill my self working every day for over 3 months. End the manager never one time say anything positive to my work. So one day. I just give the keys to the guy end I said I Quit.

I know what you mean Carlos. I resigned from CCA. A particular supervisor gave me long azz routes I didn't know, just feeding me to the wolves every day and expecting me to get it done! Here's 3 hours' worth of mail that has 5 hours of walking to go along with it! Gtfoh, people are crazy to think a CCA can just do different routes every day. Not even giving us the opportunity to at least do a route for 2 weeks straight till mastered it. Nope. Go faster, go faster, your moving too slow. Smh. Cons: my weight plunged too low made me start to look sickly. Can have that CCA position. Now I'm doing RCA because it's not walking all mounted and no tremendous weight loss anymore. Others might welcome losing weight like that I don't.

Such a high percentage of new CCAs quit because of many reasons, but I think it is safe to assume that a lack of work ethic is the main reason. Not everyone is meant to endure physicality. Not everyone is meant to endure the mental wear and tear. And definitely not many are able to handle both at the same time. To do so with integrity AND taking pride in the service provided, there will be rewards later in life.
Bro, CCA's are just being exploited. There is no pride in being taken advantage of. We get paid way less and do the same job. It's a joke.

I think its work life balance. You can't expect someone new to learn so many routes .. and work massive amt of OT without regular days off. Everyone needs a schedule with at least one day or two days off per week. Newbees aren't regulars and it appears that many managers take advantage of these people which is just wrong.
@@jimmywalters3071 I think you make some valid points to an extent, but like I said;, the main reason in my opinion is work ethic. We have evolved to an extent where we are much different than our grandparents or great grandparents. If you tell someone from the era of either above that it's too much to work as a CCA - so many hours without life balance, they'll probably look at you like you're nuts. I am not suggesting that we should remain in the past, but we are talking about a small period of time, in context, where someone has to log so many hours and maybe even taken advantage of.
The main point here is there IS a reward(s) after the initial "newbie" phase at the USPS. It just takes a lot of will power and stamina to get there. Nobody is saying someone has to work or even stay at the USPS, there are plenty of other places to rest with a more stable schedule. I just personally find it amusing when people whine about it, just tuck the tail and move on. Of course I kid some with my matter of fact style speak, but it is what it is.
