Take a look at Gridwatch. Right now 52% of our electricity is coming from Gas. Wind plus solar is only 10%. We are getting more than that from Europe via the interconnectors. It's freezing cold outside, it's cloudy and there's sod all wind. So much for our wonderful renewable energy supply.
To depend on wind and solar, you need a back up because that supply stops without sun and wind. That back up is fed by fossil fuel power stations that are there when needed and continuously paid for to be available and also when not. This means paying twice for your energy. It makes no sense. The other way they can do it is taking in electricity from foreign electrical interconnectors, from foreign power stations burning fossil fuels but that carbon is not on UK books. I have recently seen numerous Net 0 programmes. The sun does not always shine the wind does not always blow. You will need huge batteries to store the electicity and they cannot last more than a day. The Chinese have cornered the market (70 -95?%) of various minerals. I think even the blades for wind are Chinese. Batteries also degrade so eventualy they need replacing. The capital cost wil be off the scale. Every program i have watched says we also need some fosile fuels. We need various sources of power otherwise the lights will go out. Remember once cars go all electric each car takes about the same as a house. 18% at the moment The capital cost is horrendous and delivery - cables - and pylons costs will be off the scale. No electricity we are back in the dark ages. To restart the existing power stations once gone will take forever. The joke is whatever we do will make no difference anyway. The fact of the matter is.....? I hear this so many times, but the real fact of the matter is we really do not know what the facts actually are. You only have to look at the plethora of different opinions by so called experts, many with PhDs, to realise that we have not a clue. This probably does not mean that we should do nothing about it, but it may be more sensible to spend the money on things like flood defenses than on net zero. Particularly as countries such as USA, China and India have a far more limited commitment to net zero than we do. In terms of cost, which is currently badly affecting many peoples' lives, if our electricity prices are linked to gas then surely that is a UK policy that could be changed if it really is true. I think the main issue for most ordinary people like me is that none of this has coherence making it impossible to determine what is fact or fiction. I think the two interviews demonstrate this perfectly. I just hope what is being done proves to be correct as it is the people of this country who will suffer if it isn't.

I have recently seen numerous Net 0 programmes. The sun does not always shine the wind does not always blow. You will need huge batteries to store the electicity and they cannot last more than a day. The Chinese have cornered the market (70 -95?%) of various minerals. I think even the blades for wind are Chinese. Batteries also degrade so eventualy they need replacing. The capital cost wil be off the scale. Every program i have watched says we also need some fosile fuels. We need various sources of power otherwise the lights will go out. Remember once cars go all electric each car takes about the same as a house. 18% at the moment The capital cost is horrendous and delivery - cables - and pylons costs will be off the scale. No electricity we are back in the dark ages. To restart the existing power stations once gone will take forever. The joke is whatever we do will make no difference anyway. Get your Chinese made solar panels soon.

The fact of the matter is.....? I hear this so many times, but the real fact of the matter is we really do not know what the facts actually are. You only have to look at the plethora of different opinions by so called experts, many with PhDs, to realise that we have not a clue. This probably does not mean that we should do nothing about it, but it may be more sensible to spend the money on things like flood defenses than on net zero. Particularly as countries such as USA, China and India have a far more limited commitment to net zero than we do. In terms of cost, which is currently badly affecting many peoples' lives, if our electricity prices are linked to gas then surely that is a UK policy that could be changed if it really is true. I think the main issue for most ordinary people like me is that none of this has coherence making it impossible to determine what is fact or fiction. I think the two interviews demonstrate this perfectly. I just hope what is being done proves to be correct as it is the people of this country who will suffer if it isn't.
