  • How do Quakers confront the apparent power of evil, negotiate their own power and powerlessness, and speak about the experience of being empowered by God? This lecture explores early Quaker theologies of ‘the Seed’ and of ‘the day of small things’, and what they can teach us about Quakers’ understanding of power and weakness - in God and in humanity.
Rachel Muers joined the University of Edinburgh in 2022, as the first woman to be appointed to the historic Chair of Divinity. She writes:
"I'm a theologian who tries to listen and speak across boundaries - disciplinary, confessional, and institutional. I have worked both on the history of Christian theology (particularly the twentieth century) and on developing new theological responses to urgent questions. I'm passionate about the importance and relevance of our subject, for the university and for wider society."
