Just as Violator has taken the world beyond our imagination in 1990, Depeche Mode released Songs of Faith and Devotion (SOFAD) in 1993, re-inventing themselves with new noise and dirty sound. "Walking In My Shoes" was my favourite track from the album as was the video and visuals during the Devotional tour. Seeing it performed live was like nothing else I have seen in a pop rock concert. I think it remains the most lavish Depeche Mode tour ever.
I have covered the song, faithfully following Alan Wilder's bass arrangement and used some of his orchestral and loop samples. In my opinion, the SOFAD and Devotional tour versions are the best, never to be replicated again in future DM tours. I played the bass line on a 4-string with C tuning, Alan would have played it on a 5-string as I imagine. The drum loops and orchestral samples are overlaid with strings and woodwinds on the synthesizer, as Alan would have done so too.
I sang both vocals and back vocals, and also played all the instruments - guitars, bass, keyboards, drums. Let me know what you think in the comments.
