Solo hammock camp in the remote Aussie Bush

  • After a few months I'm back! Join me for an adventure exploring some rarely visited country. I survey the damage done to some amazing temperate rainforest by the recent bushfires. I climb down into a remote creek and have a lot of fun hiking up stream. I find a great campsite, hang up the hammock and stoke up the campfire. I try cooking something new and just enjoy spending time in the forest. A tricky hike in and out, but a great trip.
    Creators note: I was playing with my camera settings so you may notice some focus pulsing, hopefully I have figured this out and it wont be repeated in future videos.

    Great to see you back mate. I’m sure it must have felt nice to be back out there after a busy period at work. Even though those rice paper rolls wouldn’t win any presentation awards 😂 they still looked bloody tasty and a great idea for a fresh tasty dinner in the bush. Ps love the little stumble at the end. I too have my fair share of them lol

      Thanks Scotty, was great to be back out again and yep dinner was super tasty even if I did loose points for presentation. Haha I was so angry at that stupid stick, but felt I had to leave it in the video. Wasn't the only time I stacked it on that trip either lol.

      Thanks Neal, great to hear and glad you stumbled across the channel. I started solo because I couldn't get my mates to come out very often either. I still enjoy hiking with friends, but I find there is something special about being out there alone. Enjoy your time out bush and stay safe. Cheers mate.

    Great to see you out again Erik. I love rice paper rolls too, great idea! Have a look for the smaller rice paper sheets... you'll have to make more rolls for the same feed, but they'll probably be easier to keep uncracked. I hear you on keeping the best places to yourself... that's fine by me, just love seeing you getting out and explore 👍

Looking forward to getting out this weekend….LOL loved the rice paper rolls. You can get papers that are the size of small tacos. Might be easier for transport mate.

    It is great to have you back - you were missed. Reminds me I haven't been out in the NZ bush camping for awhile either - hopefully soon. Recently went and did a couple of day trips on the Milford Track and Keppler Track. Maybe one day when the borders are open again you can come over and experience some NZ exploration. You don't have to worry about ants or snakes over here :-)

    Good to see you back Erik. I've been wondering when we would see you again. A stunning spot you found for yourself there. Laughed my ass off at your "Structural Integrity" comment. As for the rice paper rolls, when they're broken like that, try overlapping a couple, or just make them at home before you leave. As for myself, I'm too lazy to mess around too much when camping. I chop, slice or dice whatever I think I'll need and vacuum seal each ingredient, or pack some things together and vac them when practical. Locations, yep, totally agree with you. Appreciate you showing us these locations in your videos but I don't blame you one bit for keeping mum about the details. Thanks for a great video. 😀

    Hey mate cracking video, just one thing I've never got a clear answer on... In nsw it is fire permit season currently, do you need a permit for your campfire? And if so how do you go about obtaining one? Thans and keep it up

    • @ScottysGoneWalkabout
      @ScottysGoneWalkabout 3 года назад

      I believe the fire permit season refers to having a fire on ones property, not in a national park. To have a fire in a national park, you need to check the plan of management for the park and check the NPWS website to see if a park fire ban is in effect for the particular park. Hope that helps mate.

    Hey Erik, what‘s the story with ticks and the (in Europe very common) lyme disease in the Aussie bush? Also a well known unpleasant phenomenon? ... By the way, I totally get your approach not sharing these magical places, that‘s what it is about: Exploring and finding out yourself.

    • @ERIKOFFTRACK
      @ERIKOFFTRACK  3 года назад

      Hi Pia, thanks for watching and yes that's absolutely what it's about! We do get ticks here, although luckily not very often where I walk. I have actually only seen them / been bitten once (in more than ten years). I think they are more common in other parts of the country though. My understanding is that we don't have Lyme disease in Australia. Cheers Erik.

    • @ERIKOFFTRACK

      I haven't seen one for a while actualy. I tend to come across more near water than when walking on ridges etc. Record for me is over 20 in one day. Thankfully that hasnt happened for a while lol.

      On this trip I used a Sawyer mini hooked up to a CamelBak bladder as a gravity filter (it will be in the background hanging from a tree in one of the hammock shots in this video). It works well, but is on the heavier side. I'll also regularly use Micropour tablets when I'm on the move. Have just picked up a 3L Befree so hoping that will work well.
