  • This is the short video of me and my friends as we were sailing in the Greek Islands in September 2021. We had a lot of fun and a wonderful experience sailing in the beautiful Aegean Sea and visiting all those small beautiful islands in the Cyclades region.
There were 10 of us on the boat, each of us had our own room, but even for a 50 foot Beneteau it was pretty cramped. Especially sleeping in a tiny bed was an experience. Other than that, it was fun sailing the boat and being on deck.
During the 7 days on the boat, you get to know the people around you and almost become family. What I learned is that it's very important to have a good companion if you decide to spend the next 7 days with her on a boat. There's no place to express your feelings all the time. Until now, I've been sailing mostly in my home country. I was really looking forward to this experience. Greek islands are really romantic and these small villages are just so cute and beautiful. I definitely want to go there again.
Even though people say that all the islands look pretty similar and there's not enough greenery or tropical landscapes around you, the Cyclades are still worth a visit, especially if you're with your own boat and in control the whole time.
So the trip started on the mainland, in the small marina of Lavrion. The first island we headed for was Kythnos. Then we sailed just around the corner of the island and anchored on a beautiful hidden beach, where we'd a small island party in the evening. We continued on to Hydra and then to Poros. I'd say that Hydra and Poros were very nice, with a beautiful old town right by the marina. These villages are so small that you can walk through them at your leisure and find your favorite restaurant to have dinner or just a cocktail.
The last island we anchored on was Aegina, perhaps the quietest of them all. It really felt like summer was coming to an end and people were no longer on vacation, at least on this island. This was our last stop, because the next day we went back to Lavrion.
All those nights we slept on the boat. You can imagine that on the last night before the flight back, each of us thought only of the cozy hotel. And that's exactly what we did. We booked a very nice hotel in Athens, with spectacular views of the Acropolis. That was really the cherry on top. We'd one last meal with friends at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the Acropolis and the illuminated Parthenon Temple.
