"For Anette" what does this mean? As far as i'm concerned Tuomas makes music for himself first. Unless he say in the the lyrics "My song is for mankind" hmm Tuomas is mysterious mf.

After parting ways with Tarja, Tuomas wanted someone who sounded very different. He did not want a Tarja soundalike. It did take their music and songs in a different direction, and in my opinion, expanded Tuomas’s creativity and ability. And now with Floor, who can sing songs written for either of prior singer, and allowed Tuomas to expand even further.

Annette has a beautiful voice and her time with Nightwish was another evolution of the band. Meadows of Heaven, The Crow the Owl and the Dove, Turn Lose The Mermaids are excellent choices for her from Tuomas' writing skills and ear for the singer and the music. If and when you have some spare time, please watch the movie Imaginaerum, which the band produced, starred in and all music performed for the movie.

My three favorite songs by Nightwish with Anette Olzon are the one you just reacted to, "Amaranth" and then two ballads, "Eva" and "Meadows of Heaven". There are no really good live versions of "Eva" or "Meadows of Heaven" but the studio versions and lyric videos are well worth a listen. These songs were meant to be sang by Anette and she does a beautiful job. As much as I love Floor Jansen, and I do...I hope that these Anette songs never get lost in the Floor worship of the present. They are just way too beautiful to forget about. Tuomas' composing and Anette's vocals are as much a great combination as was Tuomas and Tarja, and then Tuomas and Floor today. Even if you don't react to these two ballads, I hope you will at least take the time to listen to them and enjoy!

The main thing people remember from the Imaginaerum tour is that Floor came in and saved the day.

Alan Dean Foster is a big fan of Nightwish's music, the famous American fantasy and science fiction writer who applied his writing talent to such hits as Star Wars and Star Trek, maintains a music section on his blog, he also introduces his subscribers with young and talented artists.
"There are many good singers, fewer great singers, and a very small number who are unique singers. Diana is a natural dramatic contralto. This is the lowest range for a female singer. She is also polyphonic. Roughly, this means that when she sings she often sounds like more than one person singing at once. As you can imagine, the combination is extraordinary. So too is her full range.
Singers at age 14 can do things that astonish us. Witness the careers of Jordan and the Dutch prodigy Amira Willighagen. But even when included in this company there is something special about Diana. I love the performances of the two singers I just mentioned, but they are (perfectly) controlled and measured. Diana is more akin to a force of nature. One of the most common descriptions of her performances is “shamanistic.” Some of this has to do with the remarkable timbre of her voice, some with the sheer intensity of her performing. In this she is closer to Floor Jansen. With both women you can see as well as hear the intensity, the emotion, contained with both the lyrics and the music. A duet between the two would be something magical."
I also recommend checking out the top vocalist, the most unique and incredibly talented Diana Ankudinova.

Thanks for sharing your reaction to this ballad about finding comfort and hope in a time of struggle. The lyrics speak of being alone and of feeling disconnected from others, of feeling lost and powerless in a chaotic world. The central image of the song is an amaranth, a beautiful flower which symbolizes the endurance of the human spirit, even in the darkest of times. The song encourages the listener to seek out the amaranth, even in a 'land of the daybreak'- to reach for hope in even the bleakest of situations. The song ultimately celebrates the strength of the human spirit and provides comfort and assurance that things will get better.

The Wounded Angel (Finnish: Haavoittunut enkeli; Swedish: Sårad ängel; 1903) is a painting by Finnish symbolist painter Hugo Simberg. It is one of the most recognizable of Simberg's works, and was voted Finland's "national painting" in a vote held by the Ateneum art museum in 2006.🤘🎸

I came into Nightwish during the Tarja era, and was resistant to check out this first album with Anette because I didn't like the way that Tarja had been treated during her ouster. Then I eventually read an interview with Steve Harris from Iron Maiden in some guitar magazine where he kept talking about how good this album was and that it was his favorite record of the year. I finally gave in and bought it, and was blown away. This album (Dark Passion Play) has since become my second favorite Nightwish album, right after "Once".

Nightwish reached a next level popularity and became sort of “mainstream” after Anette joined the band. Coincidentally, Tuomas reached the peak of his creativity on the 2 albums with Anette (I found no interesting new song after Floor joined).
NW already has a bombastic sound, so her normal voice (as opposed to heavy operatic sound of Tarja) may be more suitable to common people’s ears. Mr. Coach, since you said “Sahara” is your favorite NW song so far, I suggest to watch Anette’s live version of that song at “Gampel Open Air 2008”. We all know Anette isn’t as technically gifted as the other 2 singers, but some people (like myself) LOVE her charm and straight-forward approach in her live performance. Keep it up guys! Even though many considered Annette the least impressive (vocally) of the 3 singers, Nightwish is said to have had the most sales and hits during her tenure (2006-2012.) I think this is precisely because Tuomas played to the strength of her vocal style and ability... Writing more "poppy" songs... which had a more world wide appeal than perhaps something closer to "metal" or symphonic metal.

Is the move completed? This was a big single for Nightwish. After Tarja's departure, Tuomas thought " don't try to replace Tarja with another operatic vocalist". Make a drastic change. The video concept is based around the famous painting "The Wounded Angel" by Finnish symbolist painter Hugo Simberg.
I think the myth and lore of the Amaranth flower is a metaphor in regard to how NIghtwish, even after changing vocalists would continue to grow and prosper.
The amaranth flower is one of the symbols of immortality and has been used as such a symbol since the time of Ancient Greece. Indeed, the word comes from the Greek (Αμάρανθος or Αμάραντος), meaning the "one that does not wither," or the never-fading (flower). to illustrate the difference in fleeting and everlasting beauty.
Aesop's Fables (sixth century B.C.E.) compares the rose to the amaranth to illustrate the difference in fleeting and everlasting beauty.
A Rose and an Amaranth blossomed side by side in a garden,
and the Amaranth said to her neighbour,
"How I envy you your beauty and your sweet scent!
No wonder you are such a universal favourite."
But the Rose replied with a shade of sadness in her voice,
"Ah, my dear friend, I bloom but for a time:
my petals soon wither and fall, and then I die.
    But your flowers never fade, even if they are cut;
    for they are everlasting.”

Probably the catchiest song I've heard from Nightwish and I like it. Regarding the whole singer discussion I feel they all bring something different and I like them all. If I had to pick one, it would probably be Floor (mostly because that's who I heard first and her voice stuck with me) but honestly, all three are phenomenal singers. Toumas writing is fantastic and he seems to have a really good grasp on how to make songs that fit the theme of what he is writing about I feel. So far, every song has sort of matched the lyrics and the feeling of the song, if you know what I mean. Great reaction as always!

Tuomas has such a musical soul that he can understand, and magnify each singer's abilities. You wanted some suggestions and mine is that you take a listen to "The Islander". It features Marko in an entirely different mode from what you are used to hearing him do in Nightwish. First single from the Dark Passion Play album. IMO , one of Anette's best songs. Yes, Anette is more poppy, a pop/rock style. Tuomas wanted a singer completely different from Tarja. You're right coach, it was 'jarring' for some. Nightwish lost some of the old fans, but did gain new ones.
The video was inspired by the 1903 Finnish painting, "The Wounded Angel" by Hugo Simberg.
Nightwish held auditions when Anette was chosen. Elize Ryd also auditioned, but Tuomas felt she was too young at the time. Elize went on to form the metal band 'Amaranthe". They are worth checking out to. Suggest "Archangel" or "Damnation Flame"
If you are at all interested in Anette since Nightwish, she released a new album this year, try the title track "Rapture"

This song is one of the ones which Anette is best known for
You are correct, she does have a more "poppy" voice and most Nightwish fans will agree that she has a great voice. People love Floor because she can sing songs written for both Tarja and Anette which is something that Anette couldn't do

If I might make a suggestion for when you tackle that one if you haven't yet: look at both the live version at Tampere, absolutely awesome, as the official video, which is haunting for lack of a better word. Scaretale is interesting in that it shows Anette and Marko in character being very theatrical. Anette in particular looks like she's having a ton of fun. A dark song with a big sense of humour.

The albums with Annette were not bad at all.
But sadly the live performances with her usually were.

Any from Anette have to be in the studio. Sorry but she struggles with tuning live and Nightwish are a live bands. Try Floor singing this at Wacken 2013.

I read an interview with Anette where she talked about leaving Nightwish. She was too ill to perform and wanted the dates postponed/rescheduled, but the rest of the band wanted to bring in Floor as a substitute and keep the dates. Anette didn’t want that to happen because she was a rock singer and Floor was a metal singer, and she knew if Floor took the mic, the fans would want Floor to take over the position. She was right, obviously, and that’s what eventually happened.
I’ve seen Nightwish once, and that was a week before Anette left the group. I’m glad I got to see her. She sounded great, she knows how to work a crowd, and it was a fantastic show. Anette is taller than you’d expect, too. I wish I could have seen them earlier with Tarja and I hope someday to see them with Floor. All three are part of the band’s history, and I like ‘em all.

They certainly seem to have used the ladies individual talents well. That's a great attitude about them that you have...appreciate them all for the contributions.

Anette is an excellent, but she suffers the comparison by the style and expectation of the other two singers in the band history. Tuomas writes to the talent in the band, so this brilliant song is a bit "poppier" due to the lane her voice takes. Still, I love the song and the video is beautiful. You can tell by listening that they double-tracked her voice to give it depth. I suggest putting the Wacken 2013 live version on your list to see how Floor handles the material. She works to keep the integrity of Anette's performance while lending her lane switching capability. The star of this song is Tuomas as composer, while the entire band delivers the goods instrumentally and Anette does what she does with a good performance. I also love the message of the video, it almost perfectly matches a poem I wrote back in the 1970s. I admire your reaction and thoughts on this song.

The thing is she is a good singer but Floor does all her songs better or more dramatic . Floor does this song and with many others live from Annette era. Floor just has a more versatile voice to fit any song. But Annette did 2 fantastic albums with Nightwish.

No, she doesn’t. We’re all tired of hearing about Floor. Her fans are exhausting and turns people away from NW.

@@nicholew350 you could not be more wrong. Their is no comparison, especially live. Annette is a great singer but Floor in my opinion is way better and more versatile. Nobody is turned off to Floor. She is beloved. But Annette is cool too

@@jerrybk1 She’s beloved by her fanbase, but her fanbase is exhausting to everyone just trying to enjoy what they like that doesn’t include Floor. Our lives don’t revolve around her. No one cares that you think Floor is better than Annette. That’s your opinion. Reaction video popularity does not represent real life. Outside of the reaction videos, Tarja and Annette are much more well known for NW than Floor is. Their greatest hits, and albums, are from those two eras.

@@nicholew350 it's just your opinion and don't find it accurate. You sound like a Floor hater. She has been a great asset to Nightwish. Most prefer her over other singers. It's just the truth . But it's dumb to discuss since she has been Nightwish singer over 10 years which is longer than Tarja . She is the face of band. I never hear negaive comments on her. So you can fantasize about other Nightwish singers but they are long gone and most want to hear Floor and never exhausted. Except jealous haters like you.

A = mediocre at most. If Nightwish is granted a big mistake = A Between to queens A is replaceable by many. Singing live shows her true inabilities. At least a 100 women from my country can do a better performance………
