- While Air China's long-haul Economy Class is very mediocre, their short-haul Economy Class was surprisingly good, including a fantastic Japanese dinner!

2:11 Probably one of *the* best things about Japanese airports: ground crew waving the plane goodbye, presumably for safe travels.
It was good you were able to capture that, thanks.
Chinese airport does that too
That for safety concern, the ground crew waving hand mean that every things is OK. They some time just holding a red flag to shown to the pilot
You get the same treatment at Chinese high speed train stations.
south korea too
All airport I think
6:15 that sound is my favorite thing about the Airbus A330.
Me to
Hey David! As a flight attendant i just want to comment the fact that the crew didnt dim the lights especially during night for take off and landing...Lowering of cabin lights is a safety procedure ...The reason is that “you want your eyes acclimated” in case of an emergency scenario like evacuation... Great video as always!! Regards from Cyprus !!;)
stelios ioannou I didn’t see your comment, totally correct, from ex cabin crew
Yeah it’s against the law to not dim it, especially during the night.
Lemme guess. You worked for Eazyjet...
Yeah in klm they also not dimmed the light, very hate it Coz shadow when I took video of landing and taking off
stelios ioannou that’s it, I’m reporting the crew
Awesome video! Nice to see the service provided by Air China. I also think it's very strange that the cabin lights weren't dimmed for takeoff. It's an important safety procedure for takeoff/landing in the dark.
Hello! Why is a safety procedure to have a dark cabin for takeoff? Thanks
@@ck8659 to adjust the eyes in case of an emergency..
It’s an FAA regulation and all American carriers as well as most international airlines follow it. But, I guess those rules aren’t applicable in China.
Ummm every time I flew Air China they all dim the lights
Art Man I think the crew might forgot that, this shouldn’t happened. When I have flights with Air China, they all dimmed the lights
"Arigato gozaimasu"
- David, 2019.
Yet another good flight report. Normally I don't watch if I don't care about the destination or plane but with you it's always good!
Dorayaki also in real life? I think it was only On Doraemon
Yes. Dorayaki is a very common snack here in Japan.
In Korea?
WTH I'm Malaysia not China
TadTheMerchant9000 YT There’s so much dorayaki sell in China!
Omg Wah :D I gonna fly to China and taste it
Welcom to Beijin haha
Enjoy ur time in Beijin
I have to say that I really enjoy your reviews. I especially appreciate that most of your reviews are in economy class - I think it gives the majority of your viewers a realistic insight to the product they would experience themselves, as most can’t afford the luxury of business or first class. It seems that a lot of other reviews out there are only of the premium classes, which are all bound to be amazing, but it’s like watching MTV’s Cribs... it’s not a realistic lifestyle aspect for most people, so it gets boring. ☺️
It's nice to hear Eglish announcement from the captain himself. It's rare among East Asian airlines.
Loving the vids, keep it up 👏🏻
Hi!! I love your vids! I already know this will be a good one!!! 😂
Awesome tripreport David!!! 😃
Always with your red suit case #David never changing. Nice video I love it
Simply a brilliant report! 😜
Great report as always! I also flew in this cabin in 2015 (actually came across this channel because of that :D)and had the same problem as you with the IFE. As far as I remember the screen could only be controlled with the other side of the remote control (so no touch screen). Discovered that way too late into my flight tho...
love the trip report !
Just love it how the ground crew wave and bow towards the plane when it starts taxiing.
I'm so glad you said yamanote, because that was my favorite train in japan
It is like a blood vessel of Tokyo!!
2:26i spot philippine airline tail😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!😅😅😅😅
Good eye!
I would love to see you make a trip report about xiamen air's long haul trip report! You can now easily fly them from Europe cities like Amsterdam and Paris. They also fly to various US destinations such as NYC, LA, Seattle and Canada destinations such as Vancouver.
Great review of CA David! I flew on the older aircraft to Beijing and the newer one back to Singapore. There's a considerable difference between the 2 versions.
CA168 was a very convenient flight to China after work in Japan. It was also convenient to be able to transit to Red Eye Flight in Beijing and go to any country such as Singapore and the United States.
9:42 A330 such a buttery aircraft
Swiss001 also said that too
😂
You can see the landing is sooo smooth
In the other words it called "butter" landing
Swiss001 always say that butter word to extreme smooth landings
Nice trip report!! Well done👍🏻
LOL Here comes the report😂 So excited
It’s more surprising for me is 3:30, the exact same gate I boarded my flight before😂
Amazing Trip Report😄
Schönes Video, David !!! 👍👍😉
good to see my fav airline China Southern airlines
Is not good
I love the Japanese tradition to wave at the aircraft 😊😊😊
Great Video and of course lovely places
Sorry I'm late.. NICE VIDEO
WOW WOW WIN!
Good job, David, hope you enjoyed your nap.
I remember that Air China used 20 year old 757s on their flights between Narita and Shanghai Pudong...
Another nice video! BTW, if you gonna stay near the Shinagawa, Try the Keikyu line to HND airport! It's more cheaper then Tokyo Monorail!
The way to find the main menu is to click on mode (the center button on the remote control). Press once and you'll get on the main menu. Press twice you'll get to the audio channel. That's how you navigate through the outdated hardware on CA's Airbus 330-200. I figured it out on my flight to/from Taipei.
I just loved the video
So awesome !!!!
I was there last month. Miss tokyo got plans on going back soon.
A330 aircraft butter the bread :D
Widebody jets flying domestic or regional routes are quite common in Asia, especially in China and Japan. The old A330s with the old cabin are mostly only used on domestic or regional flights. It is also the reason why Air China is not refurbishing the cabin. According to my experience in PEK, the major reason you are not getting a jet bridge for today's flight is that the A330 will be used for a domestic flight tomorrow morning. Otherwise, they have to drag the aircraft to a gate for domestic flight after this.
I flew a A350 on a China 2 hr domestic flight while a outdated A330-200 on a 11 hr flight out
Nice trip report
Do a trip report from Chicago O’Hare to London Heathrow on a380 between April and October cuz November and March the a380 is not there
Plane spotting is never enough. I can do it for hours 😊
I like your All videos!!
Cabin lights should be dimmed for safety reasons in the dark
can you do southwest airlines
from Oakland to Honolulu then do there inter island flight from Honolulu to Kahului
Beautiful review
6:44 Dimming the cabin lights is actually a safety procedure while take-off at night, as if there is an emergency while taking off your eyes are adapted to the dark and you can escape the aircraft easily, so it is odd that they did not dim the lights.
They use older A330s to operate flights to Japan ,Korea, and Southeast Asia. On their newer A330s the seat hard products are much better.
Their A350s are great!
When are u going to fly ANA A380?
i love the a 330
How long was the flght and why did you got a remote stand?
FINALLY AIR CHINA
Safe travels!
You should try japan airlines on long haul flight😁
One of the best economy class in the world.
I hope u nice flights
Wow another amazing flight review on Air China economy class . Keep up the awesome vids simply aviation 👍👌❤️.
How is dimming the cabin lights for safety what does it do?
You make me so happy when you report about Japanese city a bit. And also your trip report always wonderful. Plz stop my country again.
I love Japan! It's probably my favorite country and I visit three times a year, so I will definitely be back! :)
What time did you take off? And land
I also find the lights not being dimmed or take-off to be odd, myself. But I do remember quite well that both my flights on All Nippon Airways from Sydney to Tokyo Haneda and Back hardly dimmed the lights for take-off. I simply assumed it had something to do with airline standard operating procedures, or SOPs are they're known. Every other airline I had flown with up until that point always dimmed or shut off the cabin lights entirely for take-off. Another thing on those flights that I wasn't accustomed to was that the captain addressed the cabin once reaching cruising altitude. I'm more used to that prior to pushback, but then again, I'd imagine that's also down to an airline's SOPs. It's just little procedures I hadn't came across before in my travels. Every airline operates different in some shape or form after all.
Kane Yasa yeah , sometimes you do t get any address on Chinese airlines. Maybe it's a cultural thing
At least the dinner looked really nice! Air China doesn’t seem to have the best reputation, but I still want to try out their 747.
-400 or -8i ?
Cuz the -8i is really good 😉
8i for sure!
I hope you had a good time in Tokyo
Yes, it IS a big problem that they don't dim the lights in night departures (I saw a Xiamen Airlines review where they didn't do that either, that seems to be common with Chinese airlines). The reason this is done is because if the takeoff is aborted and the plane needs to be evacuated, passengers' eyes will be already used to darkness and will find the exit faster. Not doing so risks lives in the event of an evacuation, with passengers trampling each other and taking longer to leave the plane, in a situation in which a few seconds can be critical.
@Kalvin Zheng, yes, it was. But in Josh's case it was a departure from China, where they may be lax with that, deplorable as it is. In this video, it was a departure from Japan, and the Japanese are very strict with regulations. One of these days they may carry a high-ranking Japanese official and they'll be happy if they get just a steep fine.
Very welcome to u to China
Nice
Flew Air China A330-300 between PEK and Manila twice two weeks ago. There was NO legroom and the meal was dreary, but unexpected on a ~4 hour flight. But, yeah, both the 330's and the Air China 777's I flew in between PEK and LAX were pretty worn-out and really showing their age!
Mr C you can travel on China southern airlines if you want to be new and good bub
Do they have english subtitles on TV's?
I found Air China pretty good, i will be on an Air China plane again in 9 hrs.
The entertainment systems of entire Airchina A330 (200/300) fleets are really from last century.
Please coming in nepal airport
Best
Those are the same seats that Garuda Indonesia had on their A330-200 aircraft until they refurbished them to match their A330-300 aircraft. So squashy!!
Don’t know why but I guess it’s a Chinese thing. Saw one video where Xiamen Air also didn’t dim the lights during take off or landing
It is quiet unnormal.I have take many times Air China, the light should be turn off in case of emergency.
Hey simply aviation's crew make a trip report on Sri Lankan airlines...p.s love your videos!
If the IFE was as old as the plane, it probably wasn't a touch screen. A decent-looking meal for a relatively short flight. Cramped seating is the standard for Economy on many airlines now.
I swear airlines had to dim the lights for landing and takeoff at night because of safety reasons????
That was cool I love you
Fantastic trip report. That's probably the best CA meal I have ever seen so far. The cabin was very dated though
Can you make a video of Cebu Pacific bisnes class
Hmm First for the first time
In-flight meal quality all depends on the airport from which the plane gets resupplied
8:52 Did you take that box with you home as a souvenir ?
Lol, the takeoff sound on the Air China Airbus A330-200 sounds exactly like the takeoff sound of the American Airlines Boeing 777-200
I might be a touch paranoid, but is 4 hours enough layover if we have a connecting flight in Beijing from JFK to Narita? I don't know if they make you go through customs again or not. :/
If you do not enter China, you do not have to go through customs.
@@simply_aviation That's a relief. I mean it's Air China for both flights/connecting flight.
Why not do a trip report from China to kuching that's where I lived or called the land of Borneo ok.
Nice video 😇
8:05 i saw the Tokyo tower 🗼
This video reminds me of all those long-haul flights with Air China’s A330s. Everything is super old, the entertainment system takes forever to load or respond and the food is downright terrible. Cabin service is OK though.
I flew Air China melbourne to beijing and Beijing to YVR . Their B777 is better than their A330. B777 is not bad but A330 is older. Their food is not bad but i prefer China Southern
Can you keep the bento box? It's so beautiful
You're good at Japanese!
OMG... Flaps Full...
I have flown 8 times with Air China and I must say:
- Legroom for long-haul flights is great! The same planes are not used to fly to Europe, but to fly to Asia.
- Airplanes are usually so much dated, but the hard product is/was good (if it still works everything... they don't even repair broken things).
- I find the meals are usually fine, specially on short/medium-haul flights, but I miss so much the snack bar on the galley on the long-haul bounds. Also the wine selection is poor.
- The worst thing on an Air China trip is the customer service (pray to not have problems, quite similar to Ryanair CS) and their English skills.
- The second worst thing are their Lounges at PEK (PVG isn't too bad).
💥💥💥
That looks alright for a short haul flight, but next time I fly from the UK to China I don't think I will give CA a go
Well, they fly from London Heathrow to Beijing with an A350 which is way more better than their A330s.
I used to avoid them when they still served Frankfurt with an A330, but now Iike to fly with them.
Some A330s of Air China are only used for short haul.
