Go back out there! When you get on a crazy bait stop you will never forget it. I have been out for tuna once and had one bait stop with them boiling around the boat. It's pretty wild.
Learned a valuable lesson about running the live bait tank from a separate battery from the one that starts your boat. Two hour nonstop action ending with a Coast Guard tow from 39 miles out. Noticed we were going 7 kts during the tow and sent the heaviest rod out. Radio crackled upon hookup. Thought we were in trouble. Heard "Do you need us to slow down so you can land that?" Coasties cheered when we boated that one and two more on the way back.
One little trick on bait fishing albacore. Drop cheap .99cent store silver colored glitter with a few lose live baits and then slap the water with a paddle. sounds crazy but It micks a feeding frenzy the glitter representing bait fish scales. You can get the Tuna so hot you can actually jack pole them. More noise the better. which is backwards from most fishing
A better trick is to slap the bait on the side of the boat in the net to stun them. They won't swim away. The glitter trick just adds to the plastic pollution problem
If you know what you’re doing and stop when you’re trolling with a fish on, just throw the right amount of bait you can plug your boat in a few hours on one stop. I catch hundreds of these things every year on my boat and it is the best fish out there on our waters

Growing up on the Big Island Hawaii- any Ahi fishing was hand lining 90% trolling usual Ono - Marlin and maybe Mahi-mahi. But sashimi and poke - scrap the bones clean and make Ahi fried patties 😎🤙🏾

Thats the thing about tuna....when your in a hot bite, you can limit a boat out in under an hour....then your arms hurt so bad you can't even grab a beer....lol
Last year was slow. Four did an overnighter on my boat and we got about 38. We were lucky as a lot of others did not get any or just a few. Hopefully this year will be better looks like a lot of boats off Oregon and Washington are getting them!

I went out out the Humboldt bay bar in Northern California and we caught around 25 and man it’s the best fish I’ve ever had, make a steak out of it and put some teriyaki sauce on it
Jordan, if you like wasabi with your raw fish you have to try Kizami. Comes in a tube and it’s real fresh chopped wasabi instead of that fake horse radish paste we usually get. It’s fucking delicious.
Throw on 2 1/2 feet of 4 pound ultragreen leader just to be safe, and change reel in speeds. Any trout will inhale a panther martin or a rooster tail, so its probly youre line. Good luck.
Same here didn’t catch a fish unfortunately but was able to get my father in law that’s been going through a lot just had multiple spine surgeries and lost his job on some fish. He had a great time and to me that’s better than catching. He was able to catch three good trout and to me getting him hooked on fishing is better than me hooking into something good.
