Of course there's only 1 Steve Perry BUT, this guy (Hugo Valenti) has been doing this for decades now. He's a fantastic vocalist and performer. It's now Dec 29, 2019 and he's still hitting the high notes. God Bless Hugo for helping keep the incredible music of Journey alive!! All the best in 2020.
Out of curiosity that's why am here. Yes he has a nice voice and sound like Perry, even look like Perry but from a point of a listener, in my own, am looking for that heartfelt powerfull diliverance of the song. Thats all.
And yes, good for him though coz i see in the comments that he is openly accepted by steve perry fans. I wonder though why neal did'nt hire him to front the journey And instead hire someone who is far from steve's looks, not the american type of guy which am sure he woul'nt have been bashed the way the other asiAn guy is. Having said that, Arnel is all thankfull and always gratefull for thAt good luck thAt change his life. He will always be indebted to journey and to All the people who support and believe in him in his good times And most especially in his bad times.
Hugo does a good job. I can see how trying to sing Steve Perry every night could strain your vocals. He doesn’t quite sound that strong here. Maybe it’s the long night of singing. I’ve heard Arnel have more power than this live, but obviously there was the best ever and that was Steve.
I've also heard Arnel live sound like he had someone sitting on his chest the entire show. On the other hand I've heard Hugo sound much stronger than this... Search and you will find. They are both great singers but of course there is only one Steve, who by the way has new material out that is very good imo.
Yes I agree with you but this guy is better than the other one they chose in the beginning when looking for someone to replace Steve Perry. This guy should have been the first choice.
This is typical karaoke singing.. We love Arnel Pineda, strong powerful voice, high notes. Please watch 25 million fans in Chile singing with Arnel. AP is reaching out to millions of fans in every corners of the world. And his accent makes music more beautiful. Even Deen Castronovo. (Drummer of Journey) said it himself, he was the best front man of Journey. " love from Spain".

@@enriquereeves3719 if Hugo was fronting journey singing perry's songs 25 million people would be fawning all over him too. Don't think that it's because he's Arnel....he's still covering Perry's songs. So stop copy pasting this shit all over somebody else's cover of Perry. This guy at least has his own original music. Let me know when Arnel writes his own stuff for journey or any other band for all that matters. Then you can hitch a ride on the Arnel hype train and have a bit of credibility.
No emotions, power and originality.... this music should came from the heart and soul not from his nose...lke Steve and Arnel... If Arnel can't sing anymore theyll choose Deen over you or stop touring anymore...
Hugo Valenti has such a good voice his solo album's have such beautiful music but you all now Hugo is Hugo and Steve Perry is Steve Perry you know what I mean Arnel did closer to the last one but there is no Journey without Perry
Agreed, but since we can't have Per live any longer, it can still be enjoyable to see/hear an excellent imitator. I've probably heard them all, and having roadied with the guys during the Perry years, I know who sounds the closest to Steve. I have a sharp, musically-trained ear, and know all those little nuances that make a singer's voice unique. Hugo fits that bill, although I have seen/heard some others that do an admirable job. And Arnel ain't one of 'em. Neal made such an issue about not wanting a Perry clone--then he hires a guy who couldn't speak English, who still routinely screws up the lyrics, and does his damnedest to imitate Perry's sound. Well, they HAD a guy who wasn't a Perry clone--Augie. Steve Augeri was himself for those ten years, I saw him several times with Journey, and had to give him creds for having the cojones for stepping into Per's shoe, considering how people attacked him for it. Yet these same jerks fawn all over AP and say he's better than Per? Spare me. It's like the bit about AC/DC and Bon vs. Brian. They were both great, but Brian never tried to imitate Bon. He made his own name for 35 years. And unlike AP, at least Brian J. could SING.
@@iDONTdoFacebook my guess is Hugo Valentine has been fighting the Steve Perry comparison his whole career. And at this point he's finally just given into it. And I can't blame him.
@@Ubermentsh I say, if you’ve got it, sing it! I’d love to have enough vocal talent that I’d have the “problem” of a lot of folks trying to compare me to Steve Perry. Perry’s gifted vocals are among the best the world has seen (or heard rather) - along with Canada’s very gifted BURTON CUMMINGS who was the former vocalist with The Guess Who ... and DAVID PACK, the original front man of the San Pedro California based band Ambrosia. Those three guys are the cream of the cream in the world of worldclass vocalists. And there were other greats: Johnny Mathis and some of the other ‘crooners’ of his era.

Dream On Hugo has made a name for himself who sang for Valentine,Open Sky two solo records and The Ramos Hugo project all great original music so your comment don't mean squat
Brian: You are quite correct. Hugo actually has 3 solo albums, 2 Valentine albums, Open Skyz and the Ramos/Hugo ones. There is also dvds of Valentine (at least 2 full concerts), another dvd of Open Skyz, along with numerous on-line vids of these and his Tribute Bands work, including some where he just stopped in and sang a song or two with some friends during their gig. Hugo was one of those considered to take over for Perry, except that Neal said, "I don't want a stupid Perry-imitator!" Hugo wasn't performing Journey works at that time--he was doing his own work and had a thin 'stache and very long, hip-length hair. And as for those here cutting Hugo down--try watching the guy a few times, and then go talk to him. I think you'll find him--and his wife--some very nice people. You will NOT find the same if you approached Neal or JC--although Ross was always good for a laugh. I know of what I speak--and NOT from a fan's point of view.
Wolf Bedliners, this guy was actually Steve's replacement until Neal Schon decided he looked and sounded to much like Perry. If not for Schon having all the say back then he would have been touring with them
No never there is only one Steve Perry. Long hair don't do it no one can replace the voice that is so sexy and that he makes you feel the words on the song STEVE PERRy one and only

Best time listening to Hugo! Love to see him again :)
Amazing...He looks, sounds and performs like Steve Perry! I would rather see this tribute band than Journey in Concert.

For all the haters, go listen to The Dream by Ramos-Hugo. It's better than anything Journey has done since Arrival.

He was. But then they decided not to go with him because Neal thought he was too much like SP.
