In 1961 I was 10 years old. I was down at "the station" with Grandpa and saw a brand new purple 4-door version of this in the showroom. My Uncle Roy was half owner of this Mobil station, and also a Plymouth dealer. I remarked to Grandpa that he ought to buy this ca. A few days later, it was in Grandpa's driveway! I thought he must have liked my advice, but probably he had ordered it and just did not tell me that. I think this was the last new car he bought from his brother, as by the mid-60's the auto companies had weeded out the little dealers in favor on one dealer per county. That is what I heard, anyway. How does a memory 60-years old like that still remain? Good luck with your Savoy!
I went to look at that car when it was for sale on marketplace in 2019. Glad some isn't going to part it out. I see someone changed the hood. It was kinked when I saw it
Learned to drive in a '61 Plymouth Fury 4-door with the 318 Poly. Imagine the fun in having to parallel that between two other cars at a metered parking spot. Those are absolutely cool dashes and the speedo is quite unique. Loved the car and wanted to restore it. Sadly it was sold while I was in the marines.
Glad to see someone finally grabbed that car, I had it saved in marketplace for along time. Front end of these cars are beautiful, look kinda like a double eyed arachnid with pinchers.
We like them, too! Very unique cars that not everyone can appreciate. We’ve had our eyes on the valiant for a couple of years now. Thanks for watching!
@@novaaldo1735 ‘61 Valiant I believe was originally listed for 1,200, and then dropped to 800. We ended up paying $500 for the car. Thanks for watching!
Cool car. I just saw its sister at the Turlock Swap Meet in January. 1961 2 door post Dodge Seneca for $2100.00. I wished I had the room because I wanted they car. The car was in great condition for the money.
Thanks for watching! We’re in SW Michigan. Currently in the process of building a 413/500 CI Max Wedge for a ‘62 dart with a cross ram. Looking to sell the hyper pack?
The floors holes in the floor can be patched I have the top of the line model '61 it has the original poly 318, PS PB added on AC which is not back in the car yet. It took almost 6 years to restore the car. It was a replacement of another '61 fury I lost in a shop fire back in 2014 . it did hurt to watch it burn
I’m sorry to hear about your loss! It’s never easy losing a car. We’ve found some miscellaneous floor panels to get ours repaired, hope to get them patched up on here in the future. Thanks for watching!
Looks like double trouble! They both have looks that only a mother could love... If you need a 440 and a 727 transmission for the Savoy... I am in N.W. Ga. at Mopar Restos in Summerville. I have more than a few... Good luck with your Mopar projects!
Thanks for watching! We’ve got a few big blocks sitting around ourself. We’ve taken an interest in these unique cars that only few people can appreciate. Hope to get them both running again here soon!
It would be a lot better with the original powertrain left intact. The looks are bizzare by today's standards, but fit right in in the early 60's. I hope both get restored.
You should invest the money and make it a hyper Dart which is the 225 Slant six with the aluminum head which you can find a junk yards at a lot of people don't know anything about back what up the 727 torque flight and you got a muscle machine
Thanks for watching! We currently are collecting the parts to build a high performance 225, hope to put that together in the future and show it on here!
I was raised on Chrysler products and all I can say about the Savoy #$%&×. I did like the Valiant/ Lancer. I really think the recreational drugs started around this time.
My folks had a 61 Plymouth savoy wagon, same color. It was the first car I ever drove on the road legally. Not a fan. Now that Lancer, now yer talkin. Incredible car. cheap, one of the 4 I owned cost 15.00 and I drove it home. slant 6 3spd. on the floor. cruised at 85 on the freeway. loved it. be nice to see either of these run n drive.
I have 1961 fury conv one year only body style parts are either cheap or pricey depend on whose selling them. The 413 cross ram is a tight fit the 383 inline dual fours is better or the 318 dual fours also
Lee and Richard Petty had this body style for 1961 Daytona 500. Lee went over the guardrail with his and Richard wrecked his in the qualifying race. They both missed the 500.
1961 Ford's and Chevy's were both better looking than than the Plymouth's. The Chevies are much more common as they sold many of them. Restored Savoy's are scarce if back to original. Most end up as resto mods or used for parts for Fury's.
They have a very unique look, that’s for sure. The fact that they are so scarce is exactly why we love them, and we hope to revive these examples to enjoy! Thanks for watching
👍🏻💯🇦🇺seen slants run here in the 13 teens an have owned many MOPAR old school or no car. I’m talking 225 with not to many modes will sort out many v8 s.
I forgot about the ‘61 Plymouth in Leave it to Beaver, I just want back and checked it out. Not everyone can appreciate the look of these early Plymouth’s, that’s for sure! Thanks for watching
Growing up we had a 61 Plymouth station wagon with 8 kids we needed the room for traveling! My loved that car.

Sweet find! I have a 1961 Plymouth Pursuit 2d sedan, ex Texas DPS Highway Patrol unit, 361 4bbl, three on tree...
Sounds like quite the machine! We’re thinking ours might need a big block, too. Thanks for watching!
@@huntracing And I am hoping it'll be a 413.
Always loved the Exner styled/influenced cars.
It's an absolutely beautiful car, completely 100% worth fixing up.

Savoy would be great as a "Little Old Lady from Pasadena" resto-mod, complete with a rebuilt 413. Great cars--good luck!
John, thanks for watching! We definitely like that idea. Hope to keep showing the progress of this car on here!
I had 62 Valient. But seen millions of these growing. Up.

Ultimate 2 door post car: needs a cross ram engine!

I really love the 1961 plymouth savoy u got, would u sell it to me?, I'll buy it!
Virgil Exner must have had some pretty wild dreams.
Those are cool, the early-mid 60's "B" body Dodge and Plymouth's. 👍
Thanks for watching!
love the slant six engine
Us, too! Thanks for watching!
Slant six never dies if it does get one out of a combine. Good buy .
We’ve got a few extras stashed away! Thanks for watching
I'd love to have a cool old Savoy,2 door like that.
It took us a while to find this one. We’re hoping to give it a new lease on life! Thanks for watching
@@huntracing I've got a '65 Coronet i've been redoing for 7 yrs. Lots of work but you'll really have something special when you're done.
I love all six cylinders, not just slant sixes. Even flat heads! That valiant? looked like it had challenger seats in it maybe.
The savoy is extra straight for its age. I would keep it pretty much stock if possible.
I will have to look into that! I do believe they are newer Mopar buckets, just not sure what they came out of. Thanks for watching!
I have parts far for the ‘’61 Blackie. Looks like a rare 2 door I have sedans
Yes, it is!

Cold War Motors: definitely
The Valiant’s were sold at Chrysler dealership s. I have a Hyper pack off one of those slant 6. Is that the Super 225 ?

Please upgrade the Savoy front brakes to discs. Scarebird makes a kit, but you'll need 15" wheels.
These cars are notoriously under-braked.

They are unibody I had the back end of a 59 Plymouth gran fury brake off after I jacked it up for the owner been sitting for years

The designers at Chrysler back then must gave been heavy drinkers. Lol
Michigan ? I’m Org from Detroit / Grosse Ponte
I wouldn't do anything to the body but repair ALL the rust, then make it so it NEVER rusts again, anywhere.
