I still find it so odd Ice is considered a late game Gym. It’s the last gym in Johto, Kalos, & (technically) Paldea, the 7th in Sinnoh & Unova, and 6th in Galar.
I think it's because late game Ice types have more of the tools they need to be dangerous while having enough bulk to be somewhat survivable. They're too fragile to be dangerous in the early game in previous gens, so the only place they could viably work as gym battles is in the latter half of the games where they have enough stats to make it work. I kinda hope teralization stays in the next gen. I mean they habe to stop at some point. They can only think of so many gimmicks without it getting redundant and I think terastilization has been the best gimmick out of all of them. It's not overpowered and can be used by any Pokemon in the game. It also adds a lot of different options and strategies you can used just based on the tera type (I.e. when to do it, who uses it, and what tera type is best for most situations). I'm not lying in bias but I truely think people would come around to it be the permant gimmick. Terslization is the only gimmick ive actually used just in casual play. Terslization is the only one where im like 'oh thats actaully pretty cool'...Maybe bring megas back in a way ORAS did? Idk I'm not opposed to them returning for like remake or something I just don't have need for it to be a overwhelming presence.
The argument I hear against keeping Terastallization is that some Pokémon are balanced by their typing, and that giving them the ability to change this at will makes them too powerful.
@@Ryodraco But, we don't see a lot of that right now. Terslation is a powerful tool but when a mon is too broken they nerf it. Regieleki is a good example it was pretty broken with tera ice if I recall but they did give it a small but significant nerf going into gen 9. I think terastilization is the most balanced it will get while giving all Pokemon a chance to actually use the gimmick at some reasonable capacity. When I think of VGC right now there's particular Pokemon that just kills everything sololy because it teras. In fact right now it's mostly used defensively to avoid fake out or weaknesses. Even Orgrepon isn't as broken as some thought it would be. It's powerful but no more than Urshifu. And then Urshifu goes crazy with tera water surging strikes but then your opponent can just tera water themselves to counter. So far I think its been the most balanced mechanic we've ever had. But, like with everything some will benefit more than others

I’m personally an advocate for Ice being resistant to Electric because 1. Ice is very non-conductive due to the electrons barely moving (because cold) and 2. Being the only type to resist BoltBeam coverage would be massive for it
Hi, Physics master and PhD student here, I mostly agree with this proposal, but not with the real-world reasoning behind it. I don’t want to sound like a dickhead, I just like talking about this stuff and couldn’t resist. Ice is indeed considered an insulating material (which would be already enough for me to justify this type match-up), but not because it’s cold. Leaving aside the fact that the “temperature = speed” correlation mainly affects the nuclei, not so much the electrons, everyday ice is not that cold (by Physics standards); its atoms still vibrate quite a lot and its electrons still move around. The reason ice is not that conductive is mainly because there are not that many electrons moving around on average to begin with. The bonds that join the atoms and molecules in ice (covalent bonds and hydrogen bonds) are too strong to allow much mobility from the electrons, in contrast to the metallic bonds from metals or the ionic bonds from the minerals in the water (remember water itself is not that conductive, it’s the salts disolved in it that make it so). In fact, even though temperature does have an effect on electric conductivity, it is roughly minimal on insulators like ice. And even worse, in conductors like most metals the relation is actually opposite: the lower the temperature, the better the conductivity, with superconductivity being a very interesting extreme side effect of this for some materials. Gameplay-wise, I agree though, and there is enough justification for it.
@@cesargpfis You’re not rude for educating someone on a topic you understand well, I’m happy to learn, and that makes a lot of sense with my minimal Chemistry and Physics knowledge
@@thequagiestsire thank you very much, it's just some kind of preventive built-in defense mechanism because it is so common to get the other reaction, unfortunately (mind you, it usually comes from other people, not the ones you are actually having a conversation with, who are most of the time very polite and open to discussion). Anyway, the situation is a bit more complex than what I said previously, but a full discussion would be way lengthier and not add that much more relevant information. I was actually sad about the change to hail because I really liked hail, but as someone whose favorite pokemon is Vanilluxe, I concede that it was a buff... even if i can no longer ice body hail stall :(
Humorously the first time I even knew about snow was using a team based on my sword team in Nat Dex on showdown and I think I set up the weather with Vanilluxe...and then I realized, where's the chip damage. Oof.
That is in fact a sword in it's mouth. Look at it's right "tooth". You notice that it has a cross guard that swords have. That makes it's saber "teeth" a broken sword. Also, all of the starter Pokemon are in Scarlet/Violet. Sure, it's in the DLC and only available at Blueberry Academy. But they're in the game.
murkrow not only has base 91 speed which is pretty good, it also almost always ran tailwind so unless the Cetitan was scarfed, or murkrow was running without investment Murkrow outsped and landed the haze everytime.
I really wish game freak had kept the Frostbite condition from Legends Arceus and had it fully replaced the Frozen condition. That would be another nice buff to ice types.
So hail being replaced with snow (so losing the chip damage) is actually a huge buff, because you dont want a team of 6 Ice types, so having the ability to run the ice weather without it actively harming the rest of your team it phenomenal. Sand does also negatively affect your team in a similar manner (requiring a heavy investment in either rock, ground or steel to avoid the chip damage), but Ground and Steel types are some of the best pokemon around (e.g. Landorus, Excadrill), and Rock Types, the weakest (defensively) of the 3, get a special defense buff to make up for that. TL;DR you can now throw Just an alolan ninetails on your team for Aurora Veil and its great, whereas in the past you would chip down your own pokemon for doing so.
Trying to give you the realization bad powers that water was resistance to grass. Everybody would pick the water type because it’s resistant and then to both types so if anybody’s like I’m gonna be the starter they’re always gonna get a pig water starter birthday type triton they had to find a new one or just replace it.
Bro ice not resisting water makes sense as warm water can melt ice as ice can freeze water if anything water should be super effective against ice but neutral still makes more sense
HEY! SPIDOPS IS NOT THAT BAD! Specifically, he's not THAT bad, he's still bad, but any pokemon with Sticky Webs can be used to a level of efficiency if you play around it right... like giving it Tera Normal. Did that to beat base Scarlet with a team that included not just Spidops, but also Muk.
Its gunna be rare but I want to see gen 10 having its gimmick be like form distortions. Let me specify. Like you press the Y button and you get a new menu that lets you pick 1 of 2 options. Being pressing down being past form and up being future. Just inmaginw the possibilitys. Its like mega evolution but you choose (example being charizard) past for fire rock charizard or future being dragon steel charizard
Could've made the ice type even better if they just stuck with Frostbite which they already fucking had. Removes Freeze as a status which most don't like and adds one in that can work like Burn. Something that was unfair to ice types was that their status was only a small chance unlike all the others in the game. Also keep the damage per turn that hail had. What a weird thing to take away. Also could make ice even more offensive. Super effective against Normal, Bug, and anything else that remotely seems like cold would kill it.
I think they should bring back hail, buff the damage from 1/16 to 1/14 and bring the snow effect of buffing ice type defense by 1.5 over to hail but nerf it a bit to 1.25. boom. Fun, we can still have all the funny hail memes, and problem solved.
Honestly, I feel like besides bug, grass types could use a buff. They don't get much in terms of good offense and their defense is also a bit...rough It's one of the three starter types but man does it gets kind of shafted in comparison to the other two. Fire - Weak against 3 types, strong against 4 types, resists 6 types, resisted by 4 types. Water - Weak against 2 types, strong against 3 types, resists 4 types, resisted by 3 types. Grass - Weak against 5 types, strong against 3 types, resists 4 types, resisted by 7 types. Even Bug technically has it better off Bug - Weak against 3 types, strong against 3 types, resist 3 types, resisted by 7 types. (Fun fact: Bug is resisted by each of the types that start with F) I genuinely feel Grass could and probably should resist Fairy, Fighting, and/or Psychic. As for bug, not to sure. I guess have ghost not resist it? I mean, ghost has 2 resists and 2 immunities. Thats all i got though.
Outside of U-Turn, the Bug and Poison weaknesses don’t matter as much as you think because offensive Bug and Poison types are uncommon in VGC, leaving you with just Fire, Flying, and Ice (most of the time), whiling said key weaknesses are offset by its key resistances to Water, Electric, and Ground (all of which are common) in addition to itself. And being immune to powder moves since gen 6 is always nice. Do you need what type needs a buff tho? Rock Rock - Weak against 5 types (most if not all of which are common), strong against 4 types, resist 4 types (half of which aren’t impactful cause offensive Normal and Poison are uncommon), and resisted by 3 types (all of which you’re weak to). It also doesn’t help that the newly reworked/buffed Snow kinda makes Sand look bad now. Cause it doesn’t to much compared the 4 terrains, Rain, Sun, and hell even said Snow. Sand could really use more benefits to make Rock-types themselves worth using like making Meteor Beam instant like Electro Shot, have all STAB Rock moves never miss in Sand (except maybe Rock Slide), and give all Rock-types a temporary built in Sturdy under Sand. An added resistance to Electric and maybe Ghost and/or Dark would also be so nice.
10:36 But then you’re damaging every other Pokémon on your team as well. Hail is a detriment to your team as well. At least sandstorm multiple Pokémon types won’t take damage from it
I hope we can get new weathers for other types. Normal is pretty under used, right? I remember Mystery Dungeon had Overcast that reduced all outgoing damage except for normal types. Could be interesting considering normal has an immunity, a weakness, two types resist, and no resistances of its own.
The damage hail did was often a downside, since you couldn't just play 12 ice types to not damage yourself. Sand didn't have this issue, as you had much more choice and you had better mons available
Snow should weaken fire type moves, because fire needs heat and theres basically none of that in the snow. Also Scald, as well as all other moves that aren't fire type but can burn and/or are just hot moves, should hit ice for super effective. Also, I don't understand why Ice is super effective against ground but not rock. Shouldn't it be the other way round? Also should be super effective against bug because like... bugs freeze really easy? Also, during rain the move blizzard should change to weather to snow because... well... its a blizzard. But other than that ice type moves should be weaker because its really hard for ice to form during rain.
Gen 10, The Gimmick should just be you having access to Tera, Z-Moves, Megas and Dynamax, but only 1 per battle (So if you Tera, you can't Mega, If you Dmax you can't Z-Move, If you Mera you can't DMax)

@@RyodracoWhat I would like to see, but I know I won’t, is to have a format in sc/vi where the top 30 most popular Pokémon are not allowed to terastalize.
It’s way too specific I know but Im just very curious about how that would turn out
I actually hate megas. Most designs aren’t as cool as they think they are, and it’s restricts team composition.
@@intergalactic92 Oh, I don't like megas either but for some reason tons of fans want them back. I'm not a fan personally tho...I never even used it in my playthroughs going so far to not mega Lucario even when the game kinda forces you. Funny you can win the fight just fine without megaing. Don't get me wrong some of the desgins are cool but from a gameplay standpoint I don't like anything about them
I’m personally an advocate for Ice being resistant to Electric because 1.
But there's a lot to unpack there for anyone who's interested in it!
Oof.
I think Ice should also resist Flying, i would also say it should resist Bug but that type is already so bad currently...
Electric could also work
I love running Encore on Iron Bundle, causes absolute mayhem with the opponent while you just wreck shop
Is it worth it though? Since the chip can screw your opponent if they don't build around Snow/Hail?
Honestly make an ice type Steel Worker and that would easily be the biggest buff to ice types.
Ice resist ground and water. WHY WAS THAT SO HARD? IT MAKES SENSSSSE
Great show bros puns are pretty good 😂
Chien Pao's fangs are a broken sword
2:08 boiled peanuts are common in the southern United States, especially Georgia.
The reason it is sort of ruin is because its fangs are swords
25:48 it's a present sack. It's a Paradox Deliberd. Deliberd has a present sack. Iron Bundle's bulbous tail is just a metal present sack
I really think Ice should get resistance to Ground and Flying, and be immune to Water!
Water types need to be nerfed a bit imo 😅
35:05 fun fact: Pokemon Showdown is thinking about banning tera in its OU format all together.
I actually had no idea that you keep the original stab if you tera into a different type
10:57 Well by not doing damage the snow doesn't hurt the other non ice types in your team.
Gamefreak needs to majorly buff the ice type so that I can use Cryagonal in proper battles
Mr Rime is good with screen cleaner and rapid spin and healing wish, I love using it in draft
I have beef with pat now. "Alolan Ninetales shiny is just not good." It's great! One of the best shinies there is!
Add in resistances to flying and eithet water or fairy. I cant think of a logical reason to resist fairy, but fairy needs more things to resist it
I guess you could finally say, hail yea
I love the skits as always Patterrz
Pokémon, please bring back Frostbite.
It’s so much better than Freeze.
The reason water resists ice is because of what happens when you put an ice cube in a glass of water.
Boiled peanuts are great if you season them right. Put some Cajun seasoning on there!
I think Regice is really good. His Sp Att is really high.
Ice has been my favorite type for years. I'm glad they are getting some attention.
16:30 Wolf made this joke specifically because he knew you were going to react to his video lol.
sitting here eating my spicy boiled peanuts and got called out lol
Could've made the ice type even better if they just stuck with Frostbite which they already fucking had. Removes Freeze as a status which most don't like and adds one in that can work like Burn. Something that was unfair to ice types was that their status was only a small chance unlike all the others in the game. Also keep the damage per turn that hail had. What a weird thing to take away.
Also could make ice even more offensive. Super effective against Normal, Bug, and anything else that remotely seems like cold would kill it.
I think patterz is obsessed with blizzard. Ignoring that snow/hail allows for aurora veil too
ah yes, chocolate covered peanuts are superior to raisins, that is until the people with allergy's show up
Bug should be supereffective against Fairy. Change my mind.
PATT YOU NEED TO ADD BOILED PEANUTS TO THE CHALLENGE WHEEL!
Now I need a then we battle of Pat vs Wolf
React to a comic dub called: Handplates. (Side note it’s an undertale comic dub.)
Let's do an experiment. Let's put ice cubes into a glass of water. Will the ice melt into the water or will the water freeze into more ice
Hope you had a happy christmas mate🎄🎄🎄🎄❤️❤️❤️
You too!
@@MorePatterrz thanks
I've never seen someone watching the whole sponsor before
I think they should bring back hail, buff the damage from 1/16 to 1/14 and bring the snow effect of buffing ice type defense by 1.5 over to hail but nerf it a bit to 1.25. boom. Fun, we can still have all the funny hail memes, and problem solved.
Honestly, I feel like besides bug, grass types could use a buff. They don't get much in terms of good offense and their defense is also a bit...rough
It's one of the three starter types but man does it gets kind of shafted in comparison to the other two.
Even Bug technically has it better off
Bug - Weak against 3 types, strong against 3 types, resist 3 types, resisted by 7 types. (Fun fact: Bug is resisted by each of the types that start with F)
I genuinely feel Grass could and probably should resist Fairy, Fighting, and/or Psychic.
Rock
Rock - Weak against 5 types (most if not all of which are common), strong against 4 types, resist 4 types (half of which aren’t impactful cause offensive Normal and Poison are uncommon), and resisted by 3 types (all of which you’re weak to).
20:43 PATTERRZ PLAYS DND!
10:36 But then you’re damaging every other Pokémon on your team as well. Hail is a detriment to your team as well. At least sandstorm multiple Pokémon types won’t take damage from it
Boiled Peanut's are really good
I hope we can get new weathers for other types. Normal is pretty under used, right? I remember Mystery Dungeon had Overcast that reduced all outgoing damage except for normal types. Could be interesting considering normal has an immunity, a weakness, two types resist, and no resistances of its own.
Hey I spent a some time in my sword play through with a. Mr rime and enjoys watching him dance very much
The damage hail did was often a downside, since you couldn't just play 12 ice types to not damage yourself. Sand didn't have this issue, as you had much more choice and you had better mons available
It feel like he shit on indirectly shin on Jynx a lot despite it being respectable in competitive Gen 1.
Basically everyone was running the ice moves but not the type
Same with Rock
um, i love those canned boiled peanuts.
Wait but Iron Bundle can learn water pulse and chilling water by TM
Thank god fans have no say in game design 🙏
