    Hello all, if this is the first time you have watched any youtube videos on how to run or train for any running challenge this guy is amazing. I have been running long distance runs for 20 years and i'm training for my fist Full Ironman and a friend of mine asked if i would help him train for the Disney runs and he mentioned this video series. So i started watching this series. I cant stop watching. These videos are not just educational but are inspirational. The awesome thing is you will get the truth about the daily challenges and its not coming from some health nut guru who is amazingly fit and is paid to be a personal trainer and making some how to video like get rip in 30 days kinda thing. its the real truth from a real person. I loves these videos Please don't stop making them

      Thanks .... Some of the video/editing work has become a little easier over time. But they are no less time consuming ... especially when putting in so many miles. I'll try my best. As long as I'm having fun with it ... right?!

    So excited to virtually train with you! However, I won't be turning my attention to Dopey until well into August. Great advice, too -- stick with what you know. It was one of the most important things as I got closer to Ironman when they said, "stick to what got you here." An listen to your body. Glad to see you are recovered from the overtraining, and you seem genuinely excited to get back at it -- all of it -- the running, the training, and the videos. BTW, I can't imagine doing ALL that math before I even start LOL Looking forward to more, my friend! xoxo

      Thank you Heather. You know ... it always means a lot to hear from you. I feel ... and have felt like we're on this crazy adventure together ~ somehow :)This video was tough. I think I whittled it down from about 3 hours of footage. Those little dwarfs took me a full day!!!!! I'm not sure I can do it every week AND put in the training. I'll try. Here we go again. Which plan are you doin? is it that Hal Higdom plan I saw on Laura's channel?

      RezRuns actually, I have a coach, Christine Hinton, who is getting me through this year...she has a lot more faith in my abilities than I do! And yes, we are in this together! I can't imagine what you have to do to create such amazing video...however I can help, I'm happy to do so ;-)

    I was 5 weeks into my training for the 2020 marathon. New runner here. Unfortunately a couple days ago I landed weird while running on a treadmill and got injured. I had an MRI done yesterday, hopefully I get my results soon. I hope it's not something that'll have me out for weeks. Fingers crossed.

    They i know this is WAY after the original post date, but the way your toes point outward is indicative that you have poor ankle mobility. The angle of your foot allows your foot to roll over the side instead of over your toes. You may find better comfort and efficiency by fixing your ankle mobility.
    Admittedly, it doesn’t look terribly severe, but toes forward is the optimal walking/running form.

    I thought you might be interested, I live up in Altamonte. I know it won"t be convenient for you, but we have a pretty nice running trail here. It has very few places where it crosses any roads, in fact the major ones have tunnels going underneath. Its so quiet all you hear are birds and your beeper! Its not far from Rosemont. Might make for a interesting video. Anyway I'm sweating it out with you and the other runDisney gang.

    Always love these training videos, definitely great motivation! I commend you for doing the Dopey challenge! I'm sticking with the half's for the first 3 races and then doing the challenge for the Food and Wine in 2018. Hoping to do the Goofy in 2019 though! I totally understand leaving the gimbal at home, running form is important! I start training tomorrow, focusing on speed this time around instead of getting my butt across the finish line haha. Going to be killer in this Florida heat! Looking forward to keeping along with your training! Good luck!

      Thank you Sabrina :) You are too kind. It sounds like you've got a good plan. It's very similar to what I did in 2016. 10Ks ... a few Halfs and then a Challenge. The heat is brutal ... but, no worries. Good luck with your speed work.

Great video! I like how you explain the training plan a little, and that you stress the importance of cross training on non-run days. I'd love to do the Dopey Challenge someday. I'll be watching these videos to motivate me for my current challenge. LOL!

    Ill be tackling my first Dopey in 2018 after completing my first marathon at Disney in 2016, I'm using a modified version of the Higdon Dopey plan so my training doesn't officially kick off until September but I'm always in a quasi training mode because I usually schedule at least one half each month just to give myself something to look forward to. My biggest issues with the official Disney training plans are I think they start way to early although I understand that may be necessary for more novice runners and I've always hated plans that base most runs on time as opposed to miles because those runs don't scale to your pace for instance someone who runs an average of 9 min miles is going to be running more than someone who runs an 11 min mile. But if you've used it and it works for you then that's what you should stick with

    • @RezRuns
      @RezRuns  7 лет назад

      I agree. I put in waaaay more miles than slower runners, but I'm OK with it I checked out Hal's plan and I'll post a link in my video later this week. It's 8 weeks less, but NOT REALLY. He has you run 13 miles the first week. If you haven't been training for that distance all Summer ... Higdon's plan won't work... right!? I took two months off after Star Wars ... so the runDisney plan is a great way for me to ease back in and get ready for those Fall races. It sounds like you knwo way more than me ... I'll definitely be looking for your motivation .. even though we will both be Dopey First Timers.

    • @neoflynn
      @neoflynn 7 лет назад

      I think Hals plan for Dopey is definitely geared more towards runners who already have a solid base which is why week one starts off with a 13 mile run, but I could easily see a way to tailor it for anyone by adding in a month or so before actually starting his plan, I totally get the Disney plan working for you especially if you took an extended break, as is always the case with running there are no right or wrong answers everyone should do what the feel works best for them, as for knowing more than you I don't know about that but I'll definitely be willing to add my advice or two cents whenever I can as we tackle this amazing challenge together

      Here's what I just typed for Kaitlyn above: The colorful one with the male coaching is called icardio (itunes.apple.com/us/app/icardio-workout-tracker-heart-rate-trainer/id314841648?mt=8) or the website is fitdigits.com ... the second is Endomondo from Under Armour. I don't show that as often. FYI ... bot of them are free, but cost more for full functionality. For instance, I think I paid $7.99 so I could use my Heart Rate monitor with the iCardio app. good Luck. Love, Love, Love Star Wars Weekend.

    Great video! You said you are doing the Galloway plan and have two 45min runs and then a 3 miles distance run at the end of the week. You said that you can run 4miles in 45mins. How do you approach the distance run at the end of the week of 3miles since you are running a longer distance during your timed runs? Do you stick the the weekly scheduled distance of 3miles or do at least the 4miles that you have already done all week?

    • @RezRuns
      @RezRuns  7 лет назад +1

      I agree. It seems a bit backward in the plan. I think he gives more detail on how to approach the maintenance runs versus the "distance" runs. I, sometimes, try speed work on the 3 mile day. Personally, I just wee it as keeping your body primed. He has you do the 45min/45min/3 mile every other week through Week 10. It's a good day for speed work.. decreasing walk time ... 400 meter sprints. My problem is always the camera. There is NO way I can get faster fidgeting with the GoPro. Bottom line .. for some reason it works ... so I'm not going to question it (for now!) LOL

    • @moseykay
      @moseykay 7 лет назад

    I'm running the full marathon at Disney this year again. 18 week training schedule starts at the beginning of Sept. This will be my 8th time and I am hoping to improve on last year's time (3:59) and maybe threaten my PR of 3:27. Hoping for good weather because last year the cold wind affected me a lot and the year before it was the heat. I hope to tackle Dopey next year. Do you recommend a shorter challenge (like the Dark Side) before tackling Dopey?

    Sedalia September 26th is it too late to start training for the goofy or Dopey challenge Marathon?

    • @RezRuns
      @RezRuns  5 лет назад +1

      It all depends. If you are a "veteran" Marathon runner or quite a few Half Marathons, probably not. It depends on how easy it would be for you to crank out say ... 10 miles right now. You need to get to at least 20/23 miles by late December. If you're a newbie ~ I'd stick with trying the Half marathon first. There will be other goofy's and Dopeys.

    Great video Rez! We started our training for the first Half Marathon of the season. The Cocoa Beach 1/2 in October. Not a Disney run but we are using Jeff's training plan and just changed the dates to get us ready. THEN we hit it hard for the Glass Slipper Challenge in Feb 2018 and I think I may have overextended myself on DarkSide Weekend by signing up for the 5K, and the DarkSide Challenge! Suffice it to say we will be training with you!
    Would love to see your take on the Magic Mile. I have read the books but I am not sure how to slow the pace down because I just sort of run at an interval that I am not huffing and puffing...is there a better way to explain the slowing training pace?
    thanks! Keep rockin along injury free!

    • @RezRuns
      @RezRuns  7 лет назад

      You are most welcome Brian ... and I'm glad we're training together. Awesome. I will see you at Princess Weekend ... I signed up for teh Fairy Tale Challenge too... still debating Dark Side. (It may only be the Half. if I do it.) I can talk about Magic Mile again in a few weeks. I don't really pay much attention to it. You know? Pacing is such a personal thing. I've been able to get close to a 10 min/mile pace for a Half ~ and, at my age ... that' OK! I usually don't pay attention to the Magic Mile ... because my pace is about 12-13 at the Disney races so I can get video. What pace are you at now? I think it's really for people who are close to the cut-off. 16-17 min/mile.

    • @brianruss113
      @brianruss113 7 лет назад

      No danger of getting swept. My current pace if 12-13 for the 10K and Half. Just seems counter intuitive to train at a slower pace to be faster on race day...Mind you that I understand my age as well and to finish in the upright position and injury free as JG says is my goal so speed is only to qualify for a better corral assignment so we can maybe be brave enough to stop for character photos. Thanks for the great videos and inspiration you provide!

      Right now... a 27"... I definitely need bigger for my visual impairment. I'm holding off a bit because I may upgrade t a new computer next year... something with more drives and a 4K graphics card... then I can get a 4K monitor. What do you use? The 27 is OK .. but a bit challenging with Premiere Pro's multi panels.

    • @WORTHITORNOT
      @WORTHITORNOT 7 лет назад +1

      RezRuns : I use a Samsung 28" 4k monitor. I just upgraded a few months ago to the Ryzen 1800x, 32gb ddr4 and 8gb video card because my old computer was struggling with 4k editing but the new system doesn't even break a sweat now.

    • @RezRuns
      @RezRuns  7 лет назад

      That's awesome. I am still using a nearly 6-year-old ASUS gaming Laptop. I future proofed with a speedy processor back then... but I wasn't editing video. It does all right, but I have to pre-render a lot. I have my eye on some MSI Laptops with 4K graphics cards and dual drives. I know a desktop would be better, but it's convenient for travel (even though my current Laptop weighs 10 lbs and has a 17.3 screen which I don't use anyway.)

Here's what I just told Kaitlyn and Jeremy above: The colorful one with the male coaching is called icardio (itunes.apple.com/us/app/icardio-workout-tracker-heart-rate-trainer/id314841648?mt=8) or the website is fitdigits.com ... the second is Endomondo from Under Armour. I don't show that as often. They both have a cost for full functionality. the iCardio was $7.99 so I could link my HR monitor. Did you have tracking problems because you were too close to the water? The cell signal must suck over the causeway.

      Thank you for sharing the apps you use. We didn't appear to have cell issues but we are stilling trying to find the running app that would work best for us. :)

      I get it. The electronic stuff can be so daunting for me. There's so much out there to pick from. It's not all compatible with this phone or that heart rate monitor. It can leave your head spinning.

      Hello! :) I'm quite a novice, I just decided to run the WDW half marathon. I will probably run it next year, as it is sold out this year, however, I am trying to find a reliable heart rate monitor and was wondering what you use/trust?

    I'm running the dopey! This will be my first marathon and I'm actually most concerned with that last day and finishing. Do you have any tips for foot care? I've heard of people running off toenails before and that has never happened to me but with the running back to back I want to do whatever I can or bring foot care items that may help my feet and muscles rest between races and playing at Disney. If you are looking for topics to cover I'd love tips on your favorite things to help your muscles and feet renew after the half and before the full. Thanks and your video is great!!!! You've got me extra motivated!!!!

      Michelle .. I have been sooooo lucky .. so far! Other than a 4-month bout of Plantar Fasciitis .. I've had few foot issues. Don't get me wrong... they're ALWAYS sore, but not real injuries. A good friend of mine forgot his inserts for the marathon and wound up with huge blisters. They have medic tents every half mile as you know... and he used it. My advice for now ... use the right shoes... don't scrimp or try to save there. Get and actual fitting and analysis at an independent running store... (like Track Shack.) I went to Fleet Feet in Altamonte Springs. Here's what I found... if you follow the plan ... and mostly walk the 5K, 10K and Half (sure .. run a bit every mile ... like a couple of minutes) .. you'll be fine for e the Marathon. With a brisk 1 min run/6 minute walk .. I've been able to maintain under 12 minutes and get lots of video. Cold foot baths ... mixed with warm Epsom salts have helped me. I also got a pedicure about a week before ... to make sure my nails were in good shape.

      If you closely watch my race videos, I always have a problem with leg cramps too. Stretch ... a good stretch before you run is key. Yes, hydration ... gatorade or powerade (electrolyes) ... and I have used these: ( www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017O8EEAW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) salt/electro tabs. Typically they're not needed under 8-to-9 miles. Cramps (I've been told) are usually from some kind of imbalance. It's different fro each of us. Finding what works can take time. Is it hot where you are? Slow down a little. You're have a great time for a first time 5k-er ... even at 37 minutes. You'll be lucky to get that pace at disney even if you can do a 6 minute mile because there are soooooo many runners. Let me know how it's going. leg cramps suck. Check out Mile 12 in my first half marathon video: (ruclips.net/video/CQ5kf_fvT6s/видео.html)

      RezRuns I live in Connecticut and it is summer I believe that I do need to slow it down a little. I will need to look into more ways to stretch thanks again.

      An time! You know? I had a guy who was next to me during the Daytona Beach Half Marathon in February ... tell me we were going too slow for him (at about a 9:30 pace.) He aid he was cramping because of the slow pace. Hope I didn't throw a wrench into the works. Play with your speed a bit. I find, for me, slowing down a bit when it's hot and humid, or walking for 30 seconds from time to time... helps me with cramping.

    Im training for Goofy! I would love to know a strategy for getting onto rides during the race. ( I know its not really allowed...but have heard that people do it!)

      Good Luck with Goofy! We'll be training together. AS for a strategy during he Marathon... it used to be easy. Disney actually opened a few of the rides for runners (like Mission Everest.) This past year... they did NOT have ride time available for runners. They also seem to cleared "mark off" the course from Park Guests after 9:30/10 in the morning. I don't think they wanted runners getting off course. It would probably be almost impossible for me with my Visual Impairment to find a ride and stay on time. I think pacing is the real problem. I just didn't hear of anyone riding rides this past Marathon. I had (like you) heard of it in the past.
