Had to watch this to relive my Dark Side 10k from 2017; I loved the Star Wars music throughout; also great costume too. I love how you incorporate the photopass pictures into the video and the Kylo Ren pic at the end was perfect! Kari
Did you decide to run Wine and Dine? If so, I will look for you during the races there. Otherwise, I signed up for my first marathon ever at Disney marathon weekend in January. I just hope I will be able to run that far without dying. I believe I saw that you are planning to do Dopey Challenge. So if not at Wine and Dine, I will look for you there. Really love your videos because I remember stuff that I forgot from the races. Please keep posting them!
Thanks Jeff. I'll try. I am going to do a few "Virtual Shorts" videos over the summer with Spanky. PLus, I am planning to "Document" my Dopey journey. As for Wine & Dine, I still have a hotel res. .. but I'm just not sure. I am thinking I want to save my dough for 2018. BTW ... I thought I wasn't going to make my first Marathon last year ... I know you can do it. :)
Thanks for taking this and posting! I just watched this video and the Dark Side Half and re-lived the entire race weekend in under an hour. Most fun I have ever had while running! May the Force be with you!
I love your videos! I ran a couple of run disney events when I was younger but after watching your videos my mom and I decided to run the half marathon next January! She ran it a few years back and said it was blast, I can't wait to run it! Your videos are also extremely helpful and inspiring too!
Gerald, I really appreciate your recap videos. The video quality, your music choices, and your ongoing commentary all come together and tell a great story. Last year I ran this race injured and had to walk the final mile in pain. I have been watching it and studying the photo opportunities. This was my first Run Disney race. Looking back I wish I had taken time to stop and get more photos. Your video helps me remember what I enjoyed about the race and helps me plan what I want to stop for this year. Do you ever study your videos to plan your next race? I hope to see you at Dark Side this year, or at least get to see your recaps of these races! Your recaps are awesome!
Thankfully ~~ it was a compression shirt or I would've been really hurting. I mean, I saw a lot of runners in very heavy costumes. Thanks Jessica ... the Half is underway and will hopefully *fingers crossed .. be done by the end of the week.
Fantastic Job Gerald !!! Your runDisney videos are amazing!!! I would like to ask you something, if you don´t mind: What kind of camera you use to shoot your runDisney races? Hope to meet you 2018 WDW Marathon.
Thanks Luis. For most of the videos, I'm using a GoPro Hero 4 Silver and Feiyu Tech G4 gimbal combo. I know it's the older stuff ~ but very stable. I do have to "fix" a lot of the video in Post. It would be awesome to meet up during Marathon Weekend.
Another great recap video. How early do people tend to get to a race in order to have time for character pictures? Also, loved getting to see you on Joyful Miles videos this week.
Thanks Jaclyn. Joyful was fun. You know? I was wondering the same thing. I get up at 2:30 and catch the bus around 3:15 - 3:30. I think people are getting out there before 3AM. They probably thing: "Why sleep!" LOL
great recap, the only part of this course that I didn't enjoy was the stretch after Hollywood studios before the boardwalk area where the course was super narrow it just made it hard to get around people but other than that I loved the race and am looking forward to your half recap
I didn't mind that stretch. I wish they'd decorate a bit more under the overpass ~ beside just the green lights. It didn't seem that crowded when I went through ... The Half should be up by the end of the week-ish. I'll probably skip the 10K in 2018.
How can we entice you to come over to the Disneyland races? Let's see those Coast to Coast medals! I hope to get mine next year. I just posted my Tinker Bell Half Marathon vlog if you're interested. I do plan on documenting my runDisney journey. My videos aren't top notch quality like yours but they were inspired by them. :) Like you said, the gimbal set up does take awhile to get accustomed to. I actually ran while changing batteries! Now that takes talent!
I will try to get out to Anaheim next year. I think the TB may be the only one I can try to fit in .. in 2018. These things are expensive. BTW ~ I just (quickly) looked through your video. Very nice :) It's amazing what a gimbal can do for you! You may have mentioned it before... which camera/gimbal? The hero 5/G5? If you are shooting in anythig above 1080p and editing down to 1080p... you can "rotate" some of the crooked shots. My gimbal(s) do the same thing while running. I don't thinkt they were meant for the punishment from running , but rather mostly walking. NIce job. I subscribed so you can help get me ready for a California journey!
Awesome! I'll be doing the WDW marathon in 2018 which will be my first full! I agree with the costs of this fun addiction. After the full, I can can only pay for 1 more half in the year which I strongly think will be the Disneyland Half. I want to hit up all the weekends in my lifetime and hopefully do the Dopey Challenge! Thanks for the gimbal tip. I have my old trusty Hero 3+ and the Feiyu 3 axis WG. That was my first go with the set up. I hope to improve with more experience! Maybe someday I'll get to bump into you during one of these races!

Thank you Kiley! That's awesome. We'll be training together for January. .. Half + 5K, 10K & Full. :P

You're a trooper (pun intended :)) for running in black long sleeves that weekend. Looking forward to the half recap!
Thankfully ~~ it was a compression shirt or I would've been really hurting. I mean, I saw a lot of runners in very heavy costumes. Thanks Jessica ... the Half is underway and will hopefully *fingers crossed .. be done by the end of the week.

Thank you. They take a lot out of me... running with the cam and editing. but we need some enjoyment in life, right?
Definitely :)
