  • Race 4 of 4 in the Dopey Challenge of the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend 2018
    What a great challenge this was. The marathon turned out to be pretty tough after the other 3 races, but had an amazing time and met some really great people along the way.
    The video is a bit long, but for a 4 hour race there was a lot of footage, I filmed the entire thing. I tried to put all the mile markers, characters and entertainment in here so everybody who ran can see most of the things they saw when running and for those that weren't there they can see everything that goes on during a Disney Marathon.
    Next up the Castaway Cay Challenge.
    Thanks to Chiara for the B-cam footage
    Thanks to Magic Kingdom for start footage of the race
    Filmed with the GoPro Hero 4 Black

    I love this video! It's so great to see the marathon from a different perspective. I'm always in the back with tens of thousands of other people. I'm so glad you took the time to get character photos and enjoy the Disney experience. (Although another advantage of being in the front is that you had little to no line for those photos. LOL) Thanks for sharing!

      Shari Smith thank you for watching. It is a big advantage to not have the lines when you’re in the front corral. It is a good incentive for me to keep training and being able to start early.

      Laura Duckson Thank you. Yeah, some characters even have to run back to their spot cause they were watching runners go by and nobody was stopping for photo’s. :-)
      That for me is the reason to work on my Proof of time and get corral A, just so I can get all the photo’s and not stand in line. :-) Good motivator to work hard.

    Congratulations on finishing Dopey and allowing us to follow along on your journey! Love how much fun you had with the races by having great costumes and stopping for all the characters! It was great to experience the race from the perspective of a corral A runner. Terrific recaps! Looking forward to more videos. :-)

    Fantastic, top man!
    Brilliant performance after your excellent Dopey runs the previous 3 days...the early morning starts... the damn cold....going out too fast (!)....stopping for character photos.
    I recognised the same thought processes as myself "only x kilometres to go, that is a short training run/a quick jog around the block/ barely a walk to the local shop" though whether I ever convince myself is another matter.
    Seeing runners on the other side of the road ahead of me (closer to the finish) is always a little irritating, until I am looking back to those who are further from the finish than me!
    I had my first half of the year last week and in the next 7 weeks I have 3 more half's, 2 x 10k, my first marathon (off road) of the year and the first - and where I am least comfortable running - 5k of the year.....gulp!

    • @RunArnoRun
      @RunArnoRun  6 лет назад

      twold4this Thank you for your comment. It is a bit frustrating to see runners on the other side of the road knowing they’re already a few miles ahead of you. 😀
      Sounds like you have a lot of races planned. I have a couple of 10k runs planned the next few weeks, a half marathon where I want to set a good time and the virtual Star Wars run for fun, that won’t be a very fast one though cause I have some fun Star Wars ideas to make that run in to a short video. Only 2 months away for my next marathon though, but by then the weather should be a little warmer, it’s around 30 degrees now, but feels like 10 some days. Takes some extra motivation to go outside and run. 😀

    Hey Arno, I commented last week on your Berlin video. I just watched this video, and nope, I didn't see myself. lol It would have had to been before the race in the prep area. You and I ran two completely different races. While you started up front, I started dead last, doing a DLS challenge (dead last start; the goal is to see how many runners passed; I think I passed ~7000?). So, I started an hour behind you. I finished in 5:11, so there's another hour behind you. I decided to sign up for 2022, so I hope to continue my training at my current great level and chop some time off of that. WDW's 50th anniversary was the push that made me sign up. lol Another difference is that because you ran so early, you had few spectators to cheer you on until after about mile 20. I've run Dopey twice, and Goofy once before that, and I don't think I realized that the speedy runners had to run without spectators. lol Great videos (will check out the rest of your Dopey videos soon), keep up the good work!

    • @RunArnoRun

      Interesting way to start your race. Passing 7000 people, that is a lot of people. I take it you didn't stop for characters? I've didn't know there are actually more spectators later, there are only so many spots that allow for spectators. Hope you enjoy the other videos too.

    I’m doing my first run ever for Star Wars weekend this year...I got a little ballsy and signed up for the half marathon. I’m in good shape but I’m no where close to where you are. What kind of PR should I be shooting for in the future of my running journey so that I can one day be in the front corals to have the same short lines for the characters? I would love to be up there one day.

    • @RunArnoRun
      @RunArnoRun  5 лет назад

      Don't worry, we all had to start out somewhere. When I did my first half marathon I thought it was the longest distance I'd ever run and I was broken when I got to the finish, but now that I train for marathons it doesn't seem that bad to run a half marathon anymore. It's all kinda relative I guess. At Disney if you have a proof of time of under 1 hour 45 minutes for a half marathon you should get a corral A bib. At your Star Wars run, don't worry about running a PR, just enjoy your run, stop for characters if you can and look around at all the cool things and people on the course. I did Star Wars 2 years ago and thought it was awesome. This year I only got to do the Virtual Star Wars run though. ( that video will be up tomorrow) Good luck on your half marathon next week. Let me know what you thought of it and how you did, would love to hear it.

    Good job! I ran the race this year and also recorded it with a GoPro Hero 4 Black but mine didn't come out nearly as good as yours. I'm still trying to put it together (it is my first attempt at vlogging and editing). Hopefully I will get it done soon. I am much slower than you so I couldn't do as many character photos because there were long lines. This was such a fun race...thanks for sharing it from your perspective.
    I'm wondering how so many people got selfie sticks onto the race course because the race rules said they were not allowed and we even had to go through security to get on to the course...but now I see you ran it last year...that might have been a new rule this year. I used a head mount which significantly affected the quality of the video.

    • @RunArnoRun
      @RunArnoRun  5 лет назад +1

      Steve Harris Selfie sticks are not allowed in the park, but gimbals are. Filming during your run without a gimbal is just too shaky. I’ve seen what the lines look like for other corrals and that is a great motivation for me to keep running fast at other races to get a good POT for Disney. 😂 I’d love to see your video once it’s done.

    What is a recommend run time to submit to get into beginning carrels?

    • @RunArnoRun
      @RunArnoRun  4 года назад +1

      I believe for the marathon or half marathon you need to have a time of under 1 hour and 50 minutes for a half marathon to get in to corral A. Of course you need to have proof of this with a race you ran in order for Run Disney to be able to verify that you belong in corral A. With upcoming races it might change a bit though seeing that they might run the races with less people, but we'll have to see if that affects the corral placement.

      @@AshlynYaDig That is awesome. Time well spent. :-) Make sure you check the run disney website for the race you want to run and see what the deadline is for entering your Proof of Time. That way you can make sure you schedule another race before that date to get your PoT. 👍

      THANKS! I will have videos of the other races with pictures (10k out today!), but I was so sick and just focused on finishing that I didn't bring my camera to film. I didnt want anything to slow me down - it was my 1st official 1/2 and full - as well as 1st Dopey. Now that I know what it's like I will bring my camera next time! I just loved how the World Showcase looked with all the lights on the lake - these races were more fun than I imagined! thanks for watching my video!

    • @RunArnoRun
      @RunArnoRun  6 лет назад +1

      Wow, first half and full at the same time is already amazing, but part of Dopey is quite an achievement. Did you get through the marathon ok? I did my first Disney race in 2016 in Paris, I've been hooked ever since, just love them. Do you have other Disney races planned already? I'm doing Paris again in September, but have to wait for 2020 to do another Dopey I think.

    • @danaelizabethx
      @danaelizabethx 6 лет назад +1

      Yes - slowly but surely I completed the marathon even though I was sick and didn't get to train properly due to a heel injury that held me up most of last year while training for A DIFFERENT marathon, but I am stubborn and someone said there was no way I could complete a marathon (which I dont understand why) so I put my mind to it that I was gonna finish no matter how long it took me! I am strongly considering wine and dine this year, but not 100% sure - they are addicting that 's for sure! I would love to do the Paris one sometime - especially now that I won't be able to get a coast to coast medal :/

    • @RunArnoRun
      @RunArnoRun  6 лет назад +1

      Blisters and Bug Bites If I lived closer to Orlando I would probably do all the races. Probably a good thing Paris only does once a year or I’d be driving back and forth to Paris all the time. 😂

    Hey Arno! Love your videos and especially your spirit at the WDW Dopey Race. Very cool you dressed up for each race. Question: How did Chiara get the breakfast at the Starlight Cafe to see you there when you ran by? My wife and I go every year and I actually proposed in front of the castle after I ran through. We love the Disney RACES and you did a great job of showing the Magic. 😃

    • @RunArnoRun

      Thank you Don. We booked a package for the races and our stay and the breakfast was included in the package, as well as the dinner party at the House of Blues afterwards. I think this is something you can only book with packages and not just on it's own. There weren't a lot of people there though, when Chiara got there it was very quiet and she was the only one outside waiting for me to run by.
      Very cool that you proposed in front of the castle. Did a photopass photographer capture the moment for you? Will you be doing Dopey again next month? I wish I was, but have to wait till 2020.

    • @donborowski2148

      I proposed during the 2013 Half Marathon and I was running the Goofy that year. I had her just step under the rope in front of everyone, but not all the way up to the photographers. I wish I would’ve though. But a friend of mine that ran with me videoed it for me, so I’ve got that memory on film for life. I ran the inaugural Dopey race. Possibly I’ll do it again. I absolutely love the Disney races and the BLING. My wife and I had twin boys (Forrest & Fischer) in 2017 so this year just the 13.1 for me and boys first 100m Disney kids race I’ll keep following you and your awesome running spirit and maybe we can meet in 2020. Great video! New subscriber from Brazil here😁I'm going to my first marathon in 2020 and I have a question... Was there plenty of hidration points on the course? What was the distance from each other? Tha ks!

    • @RunArnoRun
      @RunArnoRun  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you for subscribing. At the marathon there were plenty of hydration points, almost every 2 to 3 miles there was a stop. Here is a link for a page that has this year's course map on it so you can see exactly how many there were. Do you drink a lot during your race? I don't think you have to worry about bringing anything. Maybe just a bottle for in the morning while you're waiting in the corral for the race to start, but once you're out running there will be plenty of water or powerade on the course.
