    Did you know the Rode Wireless Go ii had built-in digital recorders? The transmitter recorded the entire first filming of this video, even though the wrong cable was used to connect to the camera! I could have used the first recording, and no one would have been the wiser. Thought it was better to fess up to my mistake, and shoot it again.

    What a great birthday present!! Hopefully they have figured out how to secure that dead cat better because I have lost several of them of the Wireless Go system. They've even sent me free replacements. The audio sounds great on this by the way. Hope you and Michelle are doing well, have a great weekend!

      Thanks, Paul! I’m very, very happy with this gift. 😁😁😁
      They’ve really improved the wind muff, it bayonet mounts and can’t fall off. 👍
      IF I can get it done, next week will be the first field test of the RWG2. Another travel vlog.
      Take care, and our best wishes to you and Joanna. 😊

      The recording feature is a game changer. I anticipate to be plugging the receiver into the camera less and less often. Three separate audio tracks… 🤔

    Awesome! Thank you for sharing your find! Very nice case and charging cable setup. As you probably know the Rode SC15 single cable setup for iPhones have been back ordered for quite some time. What I wish someone would come out with is a 90 degree (right angle) lightning to usb-c patch "audio" cable, like Rode's SC15. I can't find anything like it, anywhere. When using a gimbal, either you have to have your iPhone moved quite a ways out from the axis arm or upside down which makes it difficult to use a ND filters and powering on. Gimbal users would love that setup. With all them awesome cable manufacturer's out there, I simply don't understand why they're not available. Thanks again.... Great job! 👍😊

      I Still use the Go 2 as my primary mic. About 80% of the time, I use the on board recording function and sync/mix in post. I tried one of those charging cases, It was too plasticky for me. I'm back to the grey case seen in this video and the three head charger. Thanks for watching.

    These are great accessories, and I'll be buying both actually. I was super annoyed that such a great mic setup just came with a loose soft "case" and no convenient way to charge it.

    if I use only one the sound doesn't come correctly when I wear headphones only one ear works I can hear but when I wear both when I'm filming I can see both work?- what can I do to use only and get better sound ?

    • @VintageInsightPhotography
      @VintageInsightPhotography  2 года назад +1

      The Rode receiver has the option to either mix the two sources as mono across the L&R channels, or leave them separate.
      I have my Rode Wireless Go II record Mic #1 on the left channel and Mic #2 on the right channel. I prefer that, because to allows me the opportunity to mix and balance them in editing.
      80% of the time, I'm recording solo with Mic #1, and all my audio is then left channel only. I set my vocal audio track to "mono" in post production so the voice sound is balanced between the right and left channels.
      You may prefer to use the other setting, where the mics are mixed.

  • @LetsClickPhotography

    So this was really helpful James. I’ve been giving serious consideration to getting this setup since I edited a bit of Paul Cooks footage and heard how great his audio was…..the one thing that was/is putting me off is that I do not like that you have to have the ‘rode block’ on show. So was interesting to hear about the dead cat and the shirt rustle hack - that could be an option. I do have a question - can a clip on wired mic be plugged into the receiver unit so you can clip the block to your belt - allowing you to just have the clip mic on your shirt? Thanks James

    • @VintageInsightPhotography
      @VintageInsightPhotography  3 года назад +2

      Rode block, hahahaha!
      Yes. You can plug a lav (or any condenser mic) into the transmitter. I might start using it that way. I have three or four lav mics laying around. I did a test with a couple of them and the audio seemed a little crisper. The Røde built-in mic doesn’t play nicely with my voice resonance, I need to do some EQ work to remove a ring, but that’s not unusual for my voice. It does, however, work great with Michelle’s voice.
      There’s a startup offering a lav mic that magnets onto your clothing. The mic is under the shirt or jacket and is held in place via magnet. What is visible looks like an enamel pin. Very clever.
      Thanks for watching!

    • @LetsClickPhotography
      @LetsClickPhotography 3 года назад +1

      @@VintageInsightPhotography Thanks James, yes I have seen the magnetic pin option on a couple of reviews. My current lav wireless produces interference and even with good signal to noise ratio still produces awful crackle, so I really need to invest sooner rather than later. Thanks for the info, appreciate it.

    • @VintageInsightPhotography
      @VintageInsightPhotography  3 года назад

      @@LetsClickPhotography, I have one lav mic that is very susceptible to radio interference. The mic itself, not the transmitter or receiver. Whatever device I plug that mic into, I get an intermittent and annoying whine. Kinda like having a teenager around.
