  • @fancyIOP
    @fancyIOP 2 года назад +22

    My seeds used to fail and I didn’t know why until I read an article that canna seeds need soft soil not hard soil. I took normal soil from the ground and didn’t water it to make the soil compact, I watered with a spoon directly on the seed and left the surrounding areas in the pot dry which helped with air intake, and since then all my seeds sprout 🌱. My issue was always compact soil where I’d water too much and the soil would go down and become hard soil. And ohhh I do this outside, the sun 🌞 is my light, I grow outdoor not indoor, I start them outside so that they get used to the sun’s heat from the start… gotta keep things cheap.🙃

    I agree on not soaking seeds or using paper towel to germinate seeds but a few added steps can help in soilless. Try warming your trays before sowing and keep warm and covered, not domed, until emergence then remove from heat and uncover. Haven't lost a seed since doing it this way. Great channel appreciate what you do ✌️

      @@DeBaccoUniversity I used to soak but this way almost guarantees full emergence in 3 days. Saves alot of time vs soaking and paper towel. Seems to me, popping in water uses too much energy before it has a chance to tap in and get established to support itself. Not a plant physiologist tho lol.

    So, to summarize: it's advisable but not necessary to soak the seeds in 1% hydrogen peroxide solution for 2-4 hours in order to easily discard of floating seeds and to help with initial seeds hydration.
    Next you either plant directly in neutral soil or a growing medium (like presoaked rock wool) and moisten around the seed.
    Keep the environment 90% humid, warm and dark for 3-4 days until the seeds germinate, then add 150-300 PAR of light.
    The moment most of seedlings emerge we remove the dome or foil if we're using them (before the leaves touch it).
    Do I have that right? Am I missing anything?

    After watching your methods, I tried giberellic acid and H2O2 1% methods, and put them in a container with a cover. (some say cover it and some say they need fresh air idk)

    One particular seed bank that I know of will not honor their guarantee unless you follow their germination method which is soaking for 8-12 hrs and then paper towel on a plate never in a bag. They also advised that they be planted when the tap root is no longer than a 1/2 inch. Yet I have always had good luck with just direct sowing into a soilless media or the final container.

    Soak 12 hours in tap water then put on top of a moist paper towel. In a zip lock and within 24 hours you'll have a tap root

    • @DeBaccoUniversity
      @DeBaccoUniversity  3 года назад +5

      While this will work, but the newly developing root will likely attach to the paper towel which can cause damage. Avoiding this and creating favorable conditions to the chosen substrate will avoid this chance of damage and allow your newly developing plant to maximize the amount of root hairs which are mainly responsible for nutrient and water absorption for the plant.

      @@DeBaccoUniversity I never let the tap root get no long then an inch before I plant so its not in there long enough to get into the paper towel...its just the way ive done it for years lol

      Create a similar environment in your chosen substrate and it will reduce chance of damage and also your efficiency when it comes to plant production;-)

    Pot likes soft loamy soil the best,out doors pick a green spot,if weeds grow there pot will,as much sunlight as possible,I start soon,I'll get mine popping,In a big pot,as they show their true leaves I'll carefully use a fork take the seedling out being careful not to break that tap root,put them in a 20 cm pot,let them grow,leave them in till they show sex,put them out in the bush,I live in Australia,the bush is huge.

      @@paul9511 Aussie here too, ok bro- Autos out bush dont work well, too much fiddling around to get the delicate lil seeds to grow where you want them to as you have to plant em in the final hole, no transplanting as they dont like it if your a bit rough and they stunt. Not worth the effort and even if you do get it right, you get at best 1/4 pound of good weed. Autos are for indoors brother, run them under lights for 18 hrs a day and they are a diff story but outdoors they dont do well. I averaged 100 grams a plant so you need 5 plants to grow a pound, and good auto seeds are expensive. Dont waste your time. But try AMS seed bank, Greenhouse seeds or Garden of Greed seeds for new strains to try. AMS would be my pick, Quality is excellent, selection is amazing but they are a touch pricey. Greenhouse seeds is great too but shipping is a bit more, while quality is top notch. Garden of green are average seeds, but they are cheap and I have 60% of my collection from them as they are cheap. Ams and greenhouse sees is where I got my rarer harder to find strains. MOAB from AMS is one strain I suggest you try. Zkittlez or gorilla glue from Garden of green, while Chemical Bride from Greenhouse seeds should do the job.

      @@marneybanana1985 thankyou for the advice..I'm getting cookies and cream seeds,a chap gets them from Amsterdam..I was given seeds from bake bean seeds co,tiny seeds, almost like grass seeds,I tried to start then outside in a pot,it rained hard & I lost all 19 other than one,after it popped I put it under led & 18 hrs for four weeks,I took it out at a foot high,tool a week under semi shade to acclimatize,it took 8 weeks approx,chunk,very resinous...I was after something that does that,under light for four weeks then out to bud..ideal as I could have 2 crops going then to.i live on gold coast now,but close to the mountains,creeks..I've a massive outdoor strain,if things are great they can produce up to 4 lbs,if not still a pound plus,but they are tall,it takes months from start to finish,the pot is very strong,it's a strain older growers have been growing for decades on the border of northern New South Wales QLD .I've another new strain cross white rhino with this big stuff,I am trying to get a 5 foot by 5 foot plant...at present I can't afford hundreds of dollars for seeds..have you tried the feminized ones then?.

    Good video, but plants take in CO2, not oxygen.

    • @marneybanana1985
      @marneybanana1985 2 года назад

      Actually when lights are off plants do take in oxygen instead of Co2, while the roots always need oxygen from the air. Science bro.

    Sorry. NO, I don't like this talk at all.
    You show us diagrams but you don't identify what all the initials mean.
    In case you didn't know, initials alienate. You don't want to alienate, do you?
    You need an advisor. Get one.
    Good journey.
