I'm so thankful you posted this video!!!
I found it and saved it my back end because tonight was "my night" with this exact problem.
Because of your efforts to figure this out and make a video on it, I'm not broke down at a gas pump in TX enroute from Las Angeles, CA to Tampa, FL.
We spoke before I bought this 2006 Winnebago Adventurer 38t and I hope to talk again one day because your just as cool as you are knowledgeable.
Thank you again for saving my bacon!!!

Thanks for your video on this. I've got a W22 Workhorse frame which is experiencing this problem.
The easiest workaround that I found was to simply turn the engine off. Then you can put it into Neutral and start it from there.
But now I understand exactly what the problem is (thank you) and I will be able to fix it myself.

A year ago, 4am, trying to leave RV Camping spot at Disneyland to beat LA traffic and head home. What you described happened to me. No way to get it out of Park. I have the Workhorse W24. It eventually did go into drive after a few disappointing minutes. Upon getting home, I changed out the brake switch down on the brake pedal you highlighted. No problems since. However, thank you for bringing out the little green piece removal as a fallback plan. Really like your posts Kevin. Happy new year. Keep um coming!

Hey Kevin, great video. Thank you for taking the time to make it. We just purchased an RV with the Workhorse W22 frame, and are experiencing some issues with getting the key out of the ignition. So this video is very much appreciated. And, I must agree with you, a cameraman would be awesome... got a little motion sickness watch it... :)

Excellent diagnosis of problem. Great fix for quickly saving the day during major inconvenience.
Have noted increasingly difficult pull on lever, required to retract park pawl, as mileage is increasing past 100,000. Parking brake is not holding coach on slopes and pressure on pawl is now more intense.

Are you pulling out the electronic parking brake paddle, which is the yellow thing on your lower dash, just to the right of your steering column?
I initially thought it was messed up when I bought mine last week with 87k miles because it didn't pop out with force like the trailer brake in an 18 wheeler.
But, upon reading the manuals while driving across the country by myself.
After reading the manuals, I learned it is actually working and the manual emphasizes the coach is not "fully in park" without it pulled out.
I would be VERY interested to see if you've been using that brake paddle or not.
Please let me know here because we should be looking out for each other and sharing as much as we can. :) :) :)

Great video--really do appreciate it! I was so excited to disconnect the wire as you clearly show--but it did not work for us. I ordered the brake switch and will try that, too. I talked to a large truck mechanic in town who suggested turning the ignition one position then shifting into neutral before turning the key the rest of the way--that didn't work either. So frustrated! Time to invest in a service call. :(

Problem first noted with slide outs a few years ago, was solved by turning ignition on and then off... repeatedly at times. While noting increasing difficulty in making both slide out switches function at times, found a correlation to that very same black solenoid you just described, to the intermittent malfunction of both slides. Pulling the green tab only, allowed both the slides to function. Apparently the electrical contacts in this area are problematic.

I just had my first experience with the Auto Park not releasing, but I'm away from the gas pump that I was stuck at a few minutes ago.
I just bought this '06 Winnebago Adventurer 38t on the w24, knowing my left slide doesn't go out.
I found an invoice from 2013, where a mechanic said, "check left slide out not working, found locks not working properly. Customer is going on."
I tried running the slide out again with this wire with the green connector disconnected, but it wouldn't open and just keeps making a squealing sound, as always.

Kevin, How do remove cowling off of steering column. On my w22 the steering wheel adjustment lever gets inthe way. I'm afraid of prying it off for fear of breaking it. I noticed in this video you have all part at the start.
    Thanks
    Mike

I have a 2005 w24 38j Winnebago. I have the reverse situation of this. Ie sometimes I have a difficult time closing the ignition to off. Question is
Is it possible that the brake switch can prevent closing the ignition switch lock to the off position

All that so you have to have your foot on the brake to shift it.These things are just another possible problem.

I'm parked for the night with the upper and lower tan covers off the lower part of the steering column and that wire still disconnected.
Do you think I can/should proceed with the last half of my trip, with another 1200 miles ahead of me with that wire disconnected?
I don't have any tools with me here on the road in San Antonio, half way down the road to home in Tampa after flying to Los Angeles besides the two screwdrivers and a couple players I bought at a Pilot truck stop in Arizona.
Because disconnecting it got me away from the gas pump that I was stuck at about 30+ minutes ago, I'm thinking about just leaving it disconnected permanently...
    Your thoughts???

Great video Kevin. I'm having the opposite problem. I can shift without having the brake on, but my leg levelers are not getting a signal that the vehicle is in park. I would conclude the brake switch is not likely the issue as it can be shifted with or without the brake on. Either the solenoid or my power wire is my problem. What are your thoughts? Where were you ordering parts from? Thanks Garth

Disconnect cable at both ends to confirm the binding is in the cable not trans or shifter. Set brake block the wheels. Also watch this to see how I lubricate cables with air pressure ruclips.net/video/Q6Y6euyq6Jw/видео.html

no, but when I hit 100k I replaced most of the sensors on my engine and other chassis locations. I was surprised at how much better the engine ran. I"ve run into this problem with GM products and had to do a similar thing. I thought your attention to detail was very good. yes I know, WK chassis. Thanks again.

This video was on a work horse chassis . i don't know about a ford but i would remove the plastic covers from around the steering column and look for a small solenoid that may be preventing lever from moving
