Hi everyone, I want to clarify something that many people are misunderstanding. I'm not disappointed with this tank because it's balanced, but because, as I stressed in the video, it's a lazy clone of the Conqueror/M103. I believe this was a missed opportunity to reward several hundred hours of Frontline dedication with novel gameplay mechanics. Sure the extra features of the tank like the four sets of tracks and repair kit are interesting, but they don't change the way the tank plays. Some cynical individuals are suggesting I'm not happy with this because it's not overpowered... Far from it. There are many tanks that Wargaming have introduced that are both fun while also being balanced and multiple ways Wargaming could have adjusted the statistics of the AE Phase I to make it more interesting without breaking the game.
If I had the opportunity to have this tier IX american reward heavy tank, I would love it! First, it would be my first tier IX tank in world of tanks (PC), and second I'm more of a hull-down player than a side-scrape kinda player, although having the Maus in World of tanks (Blitz), it would be a good way to practice hull down for a while and apply what I learned to other tanks, such as my WZ 111 model 1-4 in (Blitz), anyways great observation about the AE phase I and in my opinion it's an average tank, sure this tank needs a bit of a change in it's statistics to make it more comparable to other tier IX heavy tanks, but yet a good tank for those who like hull-down and shoot the enemies while they bounce and hopefully they can't hit the capoula on the AE Phase I. Thank you for reading this. :)

Reward tanks just as if not worse than the regular ones? No, they need to be unique. If they are average or below avrage, no one will bother with them. If the are OP, wg will find ways to monetize that or the tank will be obligatory for CW (if is a tier 8 or 10). That would just arm the unicums. We dont need that. But if you make the tank unique, with special traits, ppl will want the tank for that, not for its OP stats.

Stop being so cynical. There's plenty of ways to make a tank fun without making it OP. The AE Phase I is just a M103/Conqueror clone and it lazy development.
@@QuickyBabyTV it's a completely different chassis from the m103 or conq. I guess they could have given it a 155 like the old t30 or perhaps the 440 alpha that the fv4201 has. From what I've seen though you still play almost all the tanks the same. There's not much variety in the way you play different tanks
@@QuickyBabyTV I agree. All they had to do was to make something special about the tracks; take a little more time to develop the tank into a unique and interesting vehicle. Instead, they got everyone exited for a "top secret tier nine" that's actually a slightly worse Conqueror.
I don't agree with the explanation of the turret armor, it is slightly better than the M103, the turretroof is easily penetrated if you fire Heat at it, or if you have more than 150mm gun. The turretfront is quite weak while using gundepression, you simply penetrate below the gun, and if thats not enough just penetrate the gunmantlet and the quite flat turretfront. It is definetly not worth it, grinding the Conq. is quicker and you recieve the S. Conq. after it (which is a good tank if you don't own a Chieftain). Greetings from Germany
I really enjoy playing frontline. I think its a great addition to the game. Play it occasionally and hit my first prestige level yesterday, I'm not grinding as you see
What I found fun was in my first game with it, being hull down against the tier 10 T95/FV4201, was blocking 4K of damage against a Unicom. I kind a like frustrating them 😜
as of 8/28/23 according to the in game stats the gun and handling have been buffed from when this video was put out. according to the in game stats the aim time is at 2.4 from 2.5 and the dispersion is now at 3.6 from 3.8
I am a working man. I played FrontLine in evening time and those weekends. During the episodes, I didn't play random battles. With the help of free boosters I could catch upon the prestiges and got Emil and Phase 1. I enjoy both tank and I need an American HT crew trainer for my T57 Heavy. So worth the grind to me with the credits I earned throughout. Don't forget I got plenty credits from FL to buy German Bulldog and Foch 155 during black market sales.
Im my experience with the Conqueror, the turret may look good on paper but in reality, its pretty much the same case as the M103 but with *The Gun Mantlet* . Its absolute garbage like 60-80% of the time even when im on a very good ridge. Its flat and its only about 200mm thick so facehugging with even an average player is impossible since they will just shoot the mantlet and pen even with AP. This weakness make the Conqueror a little bit of a glass cannon tbh. I have noticed this since the release of the S.Conqueror. I cant exactly complain since that spaced armor will block anything, even the 420mms of heat pen lol.
What gets me about capolas is most of them do not have view points on them, but they can be spotted. So if your capolas pokes over a ridge you get spotted but do not spot the enemy. I thought the point of capolas IRL is to poke them over a ridge and spot without exposing the whole tank, but apparently in WOT it is opposite.
Frontline is a special. Not my piece of cake. Then you miss these special vehicules and that is a pitty. Apart from the result with this kind of tank specials are ofcourse always nice to have in the garage. Thanks QB for the evaluation
This is very good! I'd MUCH rather have something with 4 tracks, wich function as something with the classic 2 tracks, and a free, slightly enhanced large repair kit, than some E25, at tier ten. Think WG did a Great job with this, since the players that 'll be getting it are going to be above avarege. (I'm talking about the AE Phase I, ofcourse)
Is there a chance we could get some insight on the Great Race? How does it work as a mode and maybe some play tips? Is auto-aim possible? Do you shoot while racing at the track? How do you keep your tank from spinning around?
When it's tracked (once) it should be able to continue moving at 25% of its usual speed. That would be a nice bonus feature that you would notice and appreciate in-game, and wouldn't be OP.
Just a thought but with the double tracks to make it something unique. How would you feel if taking out the front track only halved the speed of the tank rather than full tracking it? Kinda like with the wheeled vehicles how you have to take out multiple wheels.
I was thinking on the play. Would the enjoyment and novelty be higher if the tracking of this tank required both the front and rear to track fully? Maybe restrict movement to 50% with a single track out. Would this change the fun or become overly broken OP?
quick question. so i got this thanks frontlines and the steel hunter games. SO i chose this between the char and the 777 because of the great turret and 4 tracks. but when i read the tanks description it says it could keep moving with 2 tracks broken, but i never seen it do that. does it or does it not XD even though i know i keep getting both tracks on the same side broken. so im not sure if it was acctuallly a thing they made.
I personally love frontline and can't wait for it every month, sure I played a bit too much that I get tired of it by the end of the week, but I get excited again as soon as the next episode starts, I just got the tank tonight and I will still play the last two episodes because it's a fun mode and it's a good way to grind tanks, crews and credits :-D
Last time they buffed it, it was the best medium heavy tank destroyer scout in the game. They won't and shouldn't buff it. They should nerf the s conq instead
I don't agree with Quicky. The AE Phase has a better turret, gun depression and turret while the M103 has better hull armor, gun accuracy and aim time. The M103 is an average tank, and so is the AE Phase IMO.
@@JDSFLA I have an M103, and it keep getting overmatched, or HE blasted on the sidearmor (or top of turret) by big TD's .. very frustrating. Frankly, it feels more like a big medium, than a heavy tank, as it get penned all the time. It does have a decent gun at least.
I agree that the M103 is frustrating (I did call it average). I make the M103 turret work best by trying to keep it pointed straight at whoever is trying to shoot me as the shape of the turret works best that way. You can't turn the turret much or the weak side gets penned. I also will "rock" the tank slightly (back/forth) to make hitting the cupula, or the very top of the turret difficult. However, let's face it, a big TD is just going right through (true for most tanks), plus there is so much gold spam in the game that others will still pen you too. What is most frustrating to me is that the M103 does not sidescape well due to the weak side armor. Good luck.
@@JDSFLA Yeah, that sounds much the way I try to do things. Thus, I end up using it as a medium tank on medium ranges. It's not precise enough to be a sniper, and it's not tough enough to be up front brawler. It's frustrating, because a tank at Tier 9 **should** be a good tank, but nope. All of that grinding, for something that isn't really a heavy tank. Sad.
I know this is 3 years old. But i finally just got my ae phase 1, from doing the free battlepasses. And its my favourite tank ive played so far. Ive gone down many tech trees to tier ix, (only 2 tier X) but still the ae phase 1 just feels good to ke
I would change the AE Phase in this way to make it different to the M103 and S.Conqueror: 1.)Increase the alpha from 440 to 490 2.)Decrease the DPM to be about 1900
when asking the "is it worth it" question, you should not only take into account the AE Phase 1. You also mentioned the credits (that enabled me to buy 3-4 further Tier X so far), but there also are the bonds and some other goodies you get along the way. Overall, Frontline _has been_ hell of a grind but now, with the 2nd map and the boosters, is only an awful grind (that makes more fun in platoon).
I’m in the process of grinding the Super Conqueror line and I currently have 12 tokens on Battle Pass. I was all set to get the AE Phase 1 until I saw this video and realized that I will be getting the Conqueror soon. I’m not really interested in the K-91-PT or the Char Futur 4 or the Object 777 Version II and I’m not sure what to think about the Kunze Panzer. I couldn’t use a crew trainer for my German mediums because after I grind the Super Conqueror line, I plan to grind the Leopard line. Does any have any thoughts as to which Battle Pass tank I should get?
That Somua was so distracting I had to go back and re-listen to what you said. I was rooting for the enemy team to shoot him 😉 Now back to the tank. What it needs to be in my opinion, is exactly like a premium as in it makes you credits. I wonder if it will now with the new Tier IX prem coming out?
This tank reminds me of a t54e2 Shark I'm tier 9, and like the Shark, it's not always the best tank or the most fun one to play, but whenever you do have a good game in it, it has the right amount of armor, dpm, alpha, and mobility, to make that good game reallly satisfying..
They missed a great opportunity to have some unique feature that uses the 4 tracks, rather than completely disabling the tank when it's tracked it could just slow the vehicle down like happens to the wheeled shits ? But if the same track is hit twice it is locked down like usual or some thing ? Or give it the ability to traverse on the spot very quickly ? Or just make it a bit quicker so it can get to positions slow meds can rush to at the start?
I manage to angle and deflect shot's with this ,i'ts an exagerated angle but not a diamond angle like you have to do in a tiger to bounce shots there ,the gun is powerful and this thing really turns around fast beng a 1960's tank ,I feel confident that if I see a Conquerer he is the hunted and I am the hunter !
If you want an American heavy tier 9 that can go hull down that will cost you a few hundred hours... They really need to buff the M103.. I’d like to see a permanent repair consumable added to the shop for some gold, not a special one just an exact clone of the current large repair kit that you buy once.
I think the biggest Problem with that grind was, that People didn´t know what they were getting, and looking at the 279 and the Chieftain, they were expecting something OP, and if not OP, than atleast something stronger or more interesting to play than the AE. I didnt do the Grind for it and I am happy, that the tank ist balanced. But many people sank hundrets of hours into it and are frustrated, that the tank ist "just" balanced.
Totally agree with you QB! It is cool, it has a good turret and that's all. There are far better heavies at tier 9, the balance of this one is good but is too much average on every aspect.
Del he doesn’t rant because it’s not OP, the reason he does not rant about it is because it does not differ from an already existing tank i.e. the Conqueror.
In my opinion frontline could be much better if 1. it was one lane not 3 2. it had more trees and bushes to use some camo 3. to open next part you need to cap 3 small circles for short period of time then you have nice mayhem
I took the STA-2, as I dont have a fun tier VIII medium tank yet (very happy with this one). Also I dont have the time to grind the frontline game mode. If I get more prestige points I just convert it to gold at the end. Emil would have been nice but too much grind for me.
Every bloody tank can't be op. The t 32 is good it only needs 15mm of more pen, M 103 is Garbo, e5 does need some buffs as well. The American heavys are nice to play excluding two of them.
How they could've changed this tank to make it worth it without making it OP - if it loses only one track, it should be able to move a tiny bit. This means when peeking against enemies it could potentially roll backwards without needing to burn a repair kit, and it would be similar to the wheeled vehicles (although mobility reduction should be much more substantial than with the wheeled vehicles).
I like how people complain about the best players (or dedicated) get rewarded with tanks that are slightly op (but in their hands become demons). Then they make an average reward tank and everyone is dissatisfied with it because they can’t roll over the other team. Makes sense
I feel like you could make an interesting video talking about the balance of premium and reward vehicles. You talked a bit about it in this video and in you obj 279 video but I feel there is a bit more that can be said.
Thanks for such a detailed review of this tank. I played with the tank for a few times till now. Quite fast for a heavy tank, and its easy to switch positions or get into cover quickly. But the armor is thin and the gun is not so good. Couldn't penetrate through the enemy's armor with most of my shots (playing against T9 and T10 tanks). The gun accuracy is below average to poor. I also missed many many shots. It takes a lot of time to lock in on the target as well. I would say this is a mediocre tank with nothing special about it except its speed. However, yeah, I will like to play a few more games and see how it performs.
I think that the AE phase 1 is balanced and the only reason I really play it is to train my crews for the e5 and the 57 heavy. But other than that the only thing that really lets it down is the accuracy

First time Wargaming releases a non op tank in to WoT.
QB: I don't like it.
It's not OP because it's American.....
@@Vorm17Bru untrue but ok
@@Vorm17 Chrysler K...
Did you sleep through the British light tanks or something?
It’s a reward tank that took hours and hours to grind. It shouldn’t be OP, but it should be unique. Worthy to play at least. The 279 (e) should never have existed, but at least it’s worth getting by merit of being disgustingly OP.
Even if it was the best tank in the game, it wouldn't be worth the endlessly boring grind...
Moje slova
Frontline is fun! This tank is just a nice bonus.
Of course it was worth it, if you are tank collector
Quickbaby @ 6:42: We haven't (quite) seen a Tier IX Reward vehicle (Premium Tank) yet, at least in the game yet I say. I'm sure that one day Wargaming will probably do it.
Faster forward to August 2021...
Strv K: Hold my beer! I am the only Tier IX premium vehicle in the game (for now).
Guvyyg Vuhh I think they should have tanks with machine guns. Like proper machine guns that fire like 2300 rounds a minute but have 1 damage per shot. Fun tanks like that would really improve the game a lot
@@brayden2295 or make it aids. You cant rly have above 3000 rpm in the game without totally fucking it up. Yes it would be fun, but guns like those dont rly have the pen to do anything past tier 8 maybe even 7. I would love to see a Bradley. 30mm pop pop gun :)
Quickbaby 2019: Balanced tank is not fun for me.
also Quickbaby 2019: Playing OP tanks like Obj279e is not really fun.
Perfect example of WoT player base, full of contradiction
It would been ok if it wasn't such a long grind tho. But yeah that's wot for you.
@@ushikiii I'm glad it was such a long grind, I'm happy I have a tank that the rushers can't have, and I will have great satisfaction in every time I hit an EBR for half it's health with this tank.
@@probiegamer7539 Good for you mate🙂👍. But others just don't think so. But if you really like the tank then that pretty cool.
Stop being so cynical. There's plenty of ways to make a tank fun without making it OP. The AE Phase I is just a M103/Conqueror clone and it lazy development.
QB, not all of us can farm tier X's in our tier VIIIs. Frontline is great credits and great for levelling tier VIIIs
Balanced = disappointing. You're part of the problem of slightly over buffed tanks then
Bro my thoughts, you are my friend a thinker.
Not at all, you can make fun tanks that are balanced. It's lazy development to create a clone or generate interest because it's too good.
@MaxMeier conq and sconq cause all 120mm tanks to seem inferior
I absolutely love this tank, it's a hull down king consistently bouncing off rounds to the turret.
Wargaming: released a balanced reward tank that doesn't break the matchmaking
Quickybaby: wHeRE iS My VAriAty???!!!!!!

"So I think collector tanks aren't fun to play"
I really enjoy playing frontline. I think its a great addition to the game. Play it occasionally and hit my first prestige level yesterday, I'm not grinding as you see
What I found fun was in my first game with it, being hull down against the tier 10 T95/FV4201, was blocking 4K of damage against a Unicom. I kind a like frustrating them 😜
8:27 somebody in chat wasn't too happy
The AE Phase 1 isn't the reward tank we want, it's the reward tank we deserve.
Dude, couldn't quite figure how I felt about it til I read this. That sums it up perfectly!
as of 8/28/23 according to the in game stats the gun and handling have been buffed from when this video was put out. according to the in game stats the aim time is at 2.4 from 2.5 and the dispersion is now at 3.6 from 3.8
I am a working man.
Was Defender or IS-3A fun tanks to play then?
I'm actually happy with the addition of this tank, for once a reward tank isn't OP
To clarify, the AE phase 1 has the exact same gun as the T110E5
You can see the pain when he laughs 13:27
Is there a chance we could get some insight on the Great Race? How does it work as a mode and maybe some play tips? Is auto-aim possible? Do you shoot while racing at the track? How do you keep your tank from spinning around?
Quickybaby type of a guy to not change his headset for 8 years
If it ain't broke - don't fix it.
Don't play world of tanks, but I can't stop watching you. I want the old game back, but I have to stop dreaming.. Keep up the good work.
QB, that's the nicest way I've ever heard anyone say 'this tank is a bag of crap'.
Any suggestion on which tank to pick from battle pass going on right now? From the 9 token tanks?
I was thinking on the play. Would the enjoyment and novelty be higher if the tracking of this tank required both the front and rear to track fully? Maybe restrict movement to 50% with a single track out. Would this change the fun or become overly broken OP?
quick question. so i got this thanks frontlines and the steel hunter games. SO i chose this between the char and the 777 because of the great turret and 4 tracks. but when i read the tanks description it says it could keep moving with 2 tracks broken, but i never seen it do that. does it or does it not XD
even though i know i keep getting both tracks on the same side broken. so im not sure if it was acctuallly a thing they made.
Why all the hate on Frontline? Is it just hate on the long time to get to the AE?
I personally love frontline and can't wait for it every month, sure I played a bit too much that I get tired of it by the end of the week, but I get excited again as soon as the next episode starts, I just got the tank tonight and I will still play the last two episodes because it's a fun mode and it's a good way to grind tanks, crews and credits :-D
Its hate about wheeled vehicles and arty strikes...
Speaking of american heavies, please talk about the t110e5 again. I think it has been powercreeped by the S. Conquerer and WZ-111-5A
Last time they buffed it, it was the best medium heavy tank destroyer scout in the game. They won't and shouldn't buff it. They should nerf the s conq instead
Hey Quickybaby : If the M103 is so much worse, is it worth it ? Could you re-review the M103 ?
I don't agree with Quicky. The AE Phase has a better turret, gun depression and turret while the M103 has better hull armor, gun accuracy and aim time. The M103 is an average tank, and so is the AE Phase IMO.
@@JDSFLA
I have an M103, and it keep getting overmatched, or HE blasted on the sidearmor (or top of turret) by big TD's .. very frustrating.
Good luck.
@@JDSFLA
Yeah, that sounds much the way I try to do things.
Question: can the phase 1 be tracked on four spots per side? It has two first- and two last track wheels per side, so disadvantage?
I would change the AE Phase in this way to make it different to the M103 and S.Conqueror:
1.)Increase the alpha from 440 to 490
2.)Decrease the DPM to be about 1900
should i get the emil as my second tank? If not, what other tank would be better?
Now able to get it using my battle pass coins. Not impressed with Kunitz Panzer or K91. Which would you suggest? Also looking at Char.
when asking the "is it worth it" question, you should not only take into account the AE Phase 1.
AE turret is better when IS7 tier 10 !? :) regular ammo PEN .is better when WZ 1115A and IS7 ? :) WG bad joke, what next ?
I was rooting for the enemy team to shoot him 😉
Now back to the tank. What it needs to be in my opinion, is exactly like a premium as in it makes you credits. I wonder if it will now with the new Tier IX prem coming out?
The AE Phase 1 is one of my favourite tanks
If ae gets the 440. It would just like a tier 9 chieftain.
I’d like to see a permanent repair consumable added to the shop for some gold, not a special one just an exact clone of the current large repair kit that you buy once.
it feel more make sense for T110E5 turret switched with AE phase I, consider how big of a turret M103 suddenly went small on tier 10
WTF. The tank is not OP and quackybaby rants about it? Big dislike. I do not want to encourage more op tanks.
RIGHT, I don't care if it's Russian or not just don't make it OP.
Del he doesn’t rant because it’s not OP, the reason he does not rant about it is because it does not differ from an already existing tank i.e. the Conqueror.

If you see other way around, if u manage to grind this tank, u earn Emil 1951, gold,Bond, silver and experience.still not worthed?
In my opinion frontline could be much better if
1. it was one lane not 3
2. it had more trees and bushes to use some camo
3. to open next part you need to cap 3 small circles for short period of time
then you have nice mayhem
I just gave up on wargaming's frontlines game mode, it's too repetitive and it invests too much time to play
I just finished my X prestige! Quite nice that QB is rewieving this....

why they didnt model the tracks accordingly at the bottom left?
I took the STA-2, as I dont have a fun tier VIII medium tank yet (very happy with this one). Also I dont have the time to grind the frontline game mode. If I get more prestige points I just convert it to gold at the end. Emil would have been nice but too much grind for me.
American heavies except the t29 and t57 heavy are garbo
They got powercreeped by pretty much everything in the game now, especially british heavies.
Tier 4 grinders: M6 IS OP!!! NERF THIS!!!
Every bloody tank can't be op. The t 32 is good it only needs 15mm of more pen, M 103 is Garbo, e5 does need some buffs as well. The American heavys are nice to play excluding two of them.
@@saymonek0 Bru tier 4 vs ARL 44 = no chance
It’s free and you get a lot of credits, consumables, and bonds. What’s not to like? Plus the FL boosters make it easy.
How they could've changed this tank to make it worth it without making it OP - if it loses only one track, it should be able to move a tiny bit. This means when peeking against enemies it could potentially roll backwards without needing to burn a repair kit, and it would be similar to the wheeled vehicles (although mobility reduction should be much more substantial than with the wheeled vehicles).
finally i was waiting for your review of this tank thx QB
That Jadgtiger on the enemy team had fun
God I really hope they bring back Frontline next year too. With a few more balance changes and tweaks of course.
Legit question im currently on Lv4,i heard prestige will get reset on new year is it true?
This tank reminds me of the painful Churchill grind. The turret is so gosh darn long ...

I am so glad I didn't shorten my life fun by frontlining my arse off for this tank; thanks for reassuring me that I really haven't missed out.
I think that the AE phase 1 is balanced and the only reason I really play it is to train my crews for the e5 and the 57 heavy. But other than that the only thing that really lets it down is the accuracy
so glad i skipped Frontline =) i have a life lol ;D
Yeah i was thinking should i waste my life but i thought nah + i hate frontline over every thing in the game
Same :P
I was also like that..so i played a couple of hours to get Sta-2..got 10 mil credits also.
I’d say accuracy to 0,35 and make the the tracks so that you only get slowed like the wheeled vehicles if 1/4 set gets destroyed
