Kate Bush | Rentaghost Theme
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 июн 2024
- POP FACT: Kate Bush originally penned and recorded the theme to Rentaghost. However following the success of her pop hit Wuthering Heights she sold the rights to Michael Staniforth. It’s his version that was subsequently used on the kid’s TV show. More recently, the rare original Kate Bush version was discovered in a bin by a bus stop. Here it is in all its glory for the first time.
Of course, that’s nonsense! It’s another one of those AI cover ideas that got into my head. I made a shoddy video to accompany this thing of beauty.
Enjoy!

All we need now is for Kate to see this and actually release it as a single.
Perhaps a themed album 😂
@@Doctor_Random Perhaps her 'lost' versions of 'Ghostbusters', 'Monster Mash', 'Thriller' and other 'horrific' songs could also (at long last) be 'recovered' for this album?👻🧛🦇🐍 (LOL).
Love it!
Kate Bush singing Rentaghost would be a good match.
@@Doctor_Random And a tour. 🤣
Don't tell me you aren't now tempted to bring us Michael Staniforth's version of Wuthering Heights that he did for a bet after having an argument with the sound guy.
Great minds think alike 😂
All of my doubts and misgivings about AI being used to create art have been smashed to pieces by the superbity of this amazing artefact.
Thank you :)
And GenX leading the way 😂
It’s just been dubbed over and re-edited. This sort of thing has been going a lot longer than AI has been around.
You won't say that when it's used by governments to mislead and lie to the public. You just know that's coming.
Superbity is not a word, freak.😅
Timothy Claypole must be spinning in his grave
Or floating above it :)
Nice to hear his laugh kept in at the end.
One rock and roll too many
She has exactly the right voice for this song. Melodic with a strong element of spooky. Positively ethereal.
It works so well :)
It does, let's see if we can get in touch with Kate and ,and make it happen.
My f***cking life is complete!
Two of my favourite childhood thing coming together.
God, you can take me now! 🙏
😂
Utter silliness. Well done :)
Glad you enjoyed it :)
This is just what my day needed. Thank you.
I’ve just walked around Morrisons listening to this.
Excellent :) 👍
What..Jim Morrison's?
@@kenpudsey6435 bathroom's out of bounds
@@Doctor_Random Very good 😁
This actually sounds like the sort of chord progression & melody Kate would have used at the time!
And RIP Michael Staniforth…this pastiche actually shows what a talented and sophisticated songwriter he was!
I agree with all of that :)
That's a killer breakbeat in the Rentaghost theme
@@MathewTizard it is indeed :)
Immediately added to my "imaginary cover versions" list...
Flipside: Michael Staniforth (Timothy Claypole) sings Wuthering Heights!
This was just brilliant. I hope Kate or her people see this.
Funnily enough, Michael Staniforth (the jester) always reminded me of Paddy Bush, Kate's brother.
Great concept Kate Bush and Rentaghost - a marriage made literally in Heaven😮😮😮😅😅
😂
Didn't Rent-A-Ghost start at around the same time Kate first achieved fame?
Rentaghost started in 1976 and Wuthering Heights was released early 1978, I think.
@@Doctor_Random There we go.
Well this is a bit bloody brilliant innit? Together at last! You had me at the sound effect at the beginning. Amazing job 👍🏻
Thank you :)
I DO hope Kate gets to hear this. I have very fond memories of Rentaghost and I’ve loved Kate’s work from day one. I bet she’d find it funny 🤣
I'm not sure what's funnier, Kate Bush singing the Rentaghost theme, or that fact that I read the "Kate Bush wrote the theme..." and believed... until you said otherwise 🤣
😂
hahaha! Absolutely brilliant... I was laughing like a loon from the very first whoosh!
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it :)
Bushtastic retro memories and some spoooky paranormal AI-tivity.
What a fantastic production 🎼👻🎼
Thank you 👻😀
Beyond brilliant. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it :)
A missing link in British Culture has finally been closed; the eternal ache is over and finally we can rest🎉
😂
I loved the boing at the start. That's all my childhood trauma sorted now.
It's an awesome sound effect :)
Fantastic. Gave me a chuckle.
Excellent, thank you :)
This Gen X'er approves!. It sounds as if this should really have happened...maybe in a "Fringe" alt-verse way...does that mean we get "Wuthering Claypole?" in return?. "The Hounds of McWitch?"...
I want all that to be true
Aw I loved watching Rentaghost when I was a kid .
Be great if this was remade
This is too funny - I'm a massive KB fan and love this!
excellent :)
Blimey, this is a find!
Pure creative genius!
Thank you :)
Renting Up That Ghost
I'm lifelong Kate fan and this needed to be done. I LOVE IT
Excellent :)
Oh how marvellous
A haunting melody.
(( . . . tumbleweed . . .
Cool, you even got that creepy laugh at the end. 👍👍👍
was hooked on Rentaghost as a 70,s kid, also a fan of Kate. but only now do I realise she sang the theme tune.😆hang on waSNT IT A GUY THAT SANG THE THEME? I MUST BE TRIPPING.
I'd forgotten about rentaghost, thanks for reminding me. I used to love it. The Meakers, the Mcwitch and Nadia Popov. Achoo!
I'd like to hear Kate take on Toyah...IEYA
A series worth revisiting :)
@@Doctor_Random But does it still exist in the archives?
@@aw-h3875 I can see some dvds available, but I don't know if they are legit
I bought the complete series one on DVD a few years back. I have several videos that I used to tape off UK gold before college in the 90s. More my Rentaghost era too.
@@werdlederdle same here :)
Absolutely fantastic. 😊
Thank you :)
Brilliant, it works!
Cheers :)
The outro music sounds like Kraftwerk.
GENIUS!
Thank you :)
It is no exaggeration to say that the Rentaghost theme has been a major influence on my musical career!
This might also explain why, despite briefly writing songs for Sting and the Pet Shop Boys that career hasn't yet taken off.... but I am working on that. 😁🇬🇧🦇
Great work Sir, but in all fairness I do still prefer the original. It really is a whimsical masterpiece, but thank you for the memories.
So many people remember it :)
Tell us MORE!🤞
@@BeesWaxMinder Chapter one (The Discovery) The VERY short version.
In 1989-90 I lost everything, not just because of the financial crash but because it was clear that my Ulcerative Colitis was trying to kill me. So I ended up having to have all of my large intestine removed, and now being being unable to work for a year, and weighing less than a sparrow… I had tried to hand the keys to my shop back to the bank, but they informed me that unknown to me, my father had signed as guarantor for my mortgage… So if I declare bankruptcy, my parents would lose their home too!
So now unable to take a year off, resting, trying to adapt to having shall we say a temporary ‘appliance’, I had to take any work I could… I lied through my teeth about my qualifications (I don’t have any) and even blagged being a bank-manager for six months (in the hope of borrowing some cheap money and perhaps saving my empire)… Ultimately I was told to leave the bank, and I ended up picking in a warehouse, but the exercise was great, and I did enjoy the luxury of being paid to daydream.
It was there (Partco) where I met Tom. Tom was the typical pot-smoking spoiled rich-kid. We hit it off for the grand total of one week, perhaps because I am not a pot-smoker, nor am I a university-educated rich kid. I knew Tom for long enough to be invited back to his uncles house where he lived with his sister. As soon as I walked into Tom’s bedroom I pointed to the long table underneath the window and asked, “What’s under the sheet?”
“Just my keyboard and music computer, I don’t use it “ It was a Commodore C64 running Cubase Pro-16, along with a Yamaha DX7 (mother keyboard) and a Casio CZ-101 (Strings), Yamaha FB-01 (Bass), Yamaha R100 reverb unit and all the cables…. No microphone, but Tom wasn’t a singer. I said to Tom, “I will give you five hundred quid for all that” “DEAL” he said… “as long as my uncle doesn’t see you taking it!”
I had never even sat in front of a computer before, but I knew this was the start of something. So now even more broke, … I set to work. This single event truly saved my life!
Before I spend all day typing here. Let me know if you want the rest Beeswax? Best wishes. 🎶
@@BeesWaxMinder Hello Mate. Spent an hour typing a reply but it keeps getting deleted? Think It might be to long, but thank you for inspiring me to start typing the inception of this adventure. I will send a VERY brief story below without all of the twists and turns/romance.
Fascinating story :) For some reason it posted three and a half times. I've tidied up the thread to keep one. :)
I used to love that show!
r o f l brought back a load of great memories .insure Kate would approve as well
excellent :)
I love kate and i loved rentaghost as a kid so nice mash up
😊
Incredible!!!!
Thank you :)
@@Doctor_Random I'm guessing you doing this purely for fun coz no way you'd get monetized using her "voice" with that copyrighted theme with clips of her? Correct me if I'm wrong
It's all for fun
Extremely cool
Kate singing Eleanor Rigby, A Day In The Life, Mr. Blue Sky and Stairway need to be a thing
Noted!
What would be REALLY spectacular would be Kate covering Hazel O'Connor "s "The Eighth Day" from "Breaking Glass"
I might try that!
Just so long as she doesn't run out of the studio screaming like Hazel did!
ha - so funny - good work
Thank you :)
Excellent!
Thank you :)
I just needs the lip syncing video software now.
I am so disappointed that this wasn't real, but nice work.
I wish it was real 🤣
Seeing Kate Bush orginally wrote it.
😂
As The Cars would say Just What I Needed 😄👍🏻
Excellent!
Amazing!!!!
Thank you :)
Very good
Thank you 😊
Brilliant
Thank you 😊
Ah, so that's where Jacko got the idea for outro laughing at the end of Thriller!
Lol, I hadn't made that connection
Didn't Kate Bush also write and sing the original theme tune to Pipkins ? I think she did.
Definitely. I read it in a book or something.
@@Doctor_Random Yes, it was definitely in something like a book.
I did not know I needed this in my life, it has made my birthday
Happy Birthday! 🎈
@@Doctor_Random thank you
Mr Claypole !!

Genius! I have genuinely spat tea over the keyboard by laughing at this!
I accept no liability soggy keyboards 😂
My brain hurts
:)
I don't know wether to laugh or cry.
I'm doing the wince smile right now.
But I'll listen to it a few more times. 😂
😂
Can you do one of Kate covering Hazel O'Connor's "The Eighth Day"?
I've seen that mentioned before in the comments. I will have a play and she what comes out of the radiogram
Brilliant! Great fun. Is this all a product of typing a command into AI or did you develop aspects yourself?
The AI attempts to make the initial voice match (it's not usually not fit for sharing at that stage and needs further work form a human. So for this one I mixed three separate vocal tracks of Kate Bush. Lionheart era, Kick in Side era and Hounds of Love era (for a bit more bass). Then played with compression chorus, etc. I had a made a couple of final mixes and choose this one.
The video is all me.
@@Doctor_Random I did wonder. Brilliant editing and mixing. Which AI program did you use?
I used RVC and Replay
Magnificent.
thank you :)
This is hilarious!
Thank you :)
The world now is getting very strange. Thankfully.
She will always be the greatest
At last!
Genius 👌
Thank you :)
If she sees this, she will love it.
I hope so :)
This is the greatest thing, ever!!!
Thank you :)
Wow.
Awesome.
I could see her doing it for real though 😂
I wish! 😂
Kate was one of the only two people Johnny Rotten ever said anything nice about; the othet was Poly Styrene of X-Ray Spex.
Nice!
And Peter Hammill of Van der Graaf Generator
I’d like to hear him singing Rentaghost 🙏
Peter Hammill singing Who Wears Short Shorts would be a result 😂
Trust me, you wouldn't.
"Oh stop Mr. Beelzlee. Just stop".
This made me laugh.😄

What if RentaGhost met Beetlejuice. Would they get on with each other ?
hmm - what about - ruclips.net/video/W7td8hXRSYc/видео.htmlsi=UYG9H3JZ9TSXTo3e :)
I watched your BeetleGhost trailer mashup. It is great. 👍
Thank you :)
Scary what AI can do now!
The thing to remember with this one is that while ai provided something that sounded a bit like Kate Bush there is a lot of manual mixing and effects to make it all work.
@@Doctor_Random not a criticism at all- you combined 2 of my favourite things and it's totally plausible Kate Bush could have written this! Given her woeful lack of output in recent years, roll on the whole Kate Bush cover album where this software takes on all the songs Kate should have sung!
Brilliant, can you do oasis singing the theme tune for playaway next 😊
Interesting idea :)
I've just asked this in one of the other chats but I'll ask again because I want to know if this is real because I googled it and it said Kate Bush wrote and performed this theme tune but because wuthering heights was out at the same time she sold the rights and the song was eventually sang by the guy who played Timothy claypole is this true or false
Nope it's not real :)
Although, I wish it was!
❤this so could have happened
Kate needs to do the theme for Absolutely Fabulous and The Young Ones next❤
Great idea!
Do "Love Will Tear Us Apart"!
Great idea!
I’m afraid.
😂
. . . of toast.
So many people rave about how great Rent-A-Ghost was I now wish I’d been born a bit earlier. As it is, I had to make do with a science fiction show called Galloping Galaxies and Paul Jones in the Uncle Jack adventures.
Now I've got the Galloping Galaxies theme tune in my head! 😂
@@Doctor_Random It was certainly catchy. I was only 6 or 7 and I remember it to this day.
Love it, love it, love it.....
Thank you, thank you, thank you ;)
@@Doctor_Random Have to say I was at a friend's house when she played Kate singing about a washing machine and was going 'swoosh-swoosh'. I did wonder what would happen when she clicked onto the spin cycle. So, this is a roundabout way of saying this isn't the weirdest thing I've heard Kate perform. I would like to hear Mr Claypole doing 'Wuthering Heights'.
Well …. Fancy that 😂
Funny 😂
I loved that show
Love it. 😂
Thank you 👍
Oh dear! Thanks for reviving my childhood trauma over Molly Weir (Hazel McWtch).
😂
49 years of being terrorised by that truly hideous Glaswegian harpie. A whole life ruined in drink and gambling, just trying, craving, begging to wipe out the memory .... and you had to set it all off again!
I loved this show ad a kid,
Same here
Hope Fake Bush in Brighton hears this..
Googles 'Fake Bush' ...
@@Doctor_Random Speaking of which.... did you know the originally scripted surname of the Meekers was the Merkins?
@@Georgie_R I didn't know that lol
@@Doctor_Random I'm not 100% sure it's true.... it's just something I was told from an Ex BBC co-worker I had in my theatre days who had worked on the first few series... but it was just one of many drunken pub tales about well known 70's and 80's shows. Such as how Tom Baker was very close to being fired from Doctor Who for being absolutely awful to everyone, and replaced by a (later) well known actress (that one was actually corroborated to me by the actress in questions child.... turns out she was asked by someone high up at the BBC, who when she said 'No', then backtracked and fired the producer to keep Tom on side instead!!!)
But this was an amazing bit of technical wizardry you have created here... would love to hear a whole 'album' of re-imagined theme tunes like this. Suzi Quatro does Prisoner Cell Block H.... or Leonard Cohen does the Minder 'feem tyoon'
I love this BBC / theatre stories. These should all be put in a book of TV rumours. I have a few from my theatre days! And I know ex-bbc who have a few as well.
A series of re-imaginings could be on the cards
If you know Kate get her out to a karaoke bar this weekend please
