One of my fav parts of this build. Definitely love how in-depth you've gotten with the plants towards their care and of course why these plants were chosen....great job
Yes I have seen Pennywort take over ponds, people and small towns. It's really a great plant for bog filters and will be easy to contain in this patio pond set up.
This is a terrific series! So easy to follow and great detail on every step! How would I adapt this for my climate here in Eastern Massachusetts? How can I protect the plumbing from the inevitable freezes and what plants might be better suited? I'm in conversation with my local pond shop, but I would appreciate your opinion!
I LOVE this series of videos, thank you so much for walking us through how to do this! I'm adding a bog filter to my existing koi pond and have a question: I live in the frozen north (Idaho, about 1 mile elevation) I doubt any plants would survive our winters above-soil level like that, so I'm wondering if I could grow...tomatoes, marigolds, annuals...in my bog? Do those throw anything that would hurt my koi? Thank you SO much!
Hi Eric i am just enjoying your presentations, I built my pond watching your videos and it came out quite nicely. Thank you! I live in MD and pond freezes sometimes. what plants should i choose for the bog filter? I really prefer the low maintenance perennials. or do i have to replant every year?
VocalBoothToGo You can certainly plant low maintenance perennials so you don't have to replant every year. If you are in MD, I think you should can my personal friend at Maryland Aquatics. Her name is Kelly Billing. Tell you I asked you to call her and she will get you DIALED in! She is an aquatic plant specialist in your backyard! We will be showcasing her expertise in some of our up and coming youtube videos! Stay tuned!
LOVE your step by step videos!! - Did I miss some information? I want to know if this bog is going to be in the shade the whole time. And what about algae?
+Tone Poet Yes on line plant sells usually offer small specimens to save on shipping. You will need to find a local supplier or grow them up from small starter plants you get on line. Thank you for watching!
first of I must say thanks for the amazing video how cold winter could be where you installed the pond would it bare freezing weather or high temperatures
great, the pegaga/peawort(?) are plenty on my family pond but since the cement pond is leaking, my brother and i decided to make a momentary properly made pon, maybe we'll use the bog filter system but my question is, does the the bog filter suits for koi fish? or do we still need advamced filtering system since kois are sensitive fish..
My koi pond has yellow-green water. It is filtered by a bio filter but because the pond is in the sun all day it will not filter the water so it is clear. I have a water bog that is 3 1/2 feet in diameter and 12 inches deep. I would like to put gravel and place plants so it would help filter the water. Could you please tell me what I need to do? Thank you so much for your comments and recommendations. God bless.
how will you take care of all the solids that are going to form at the bottom of the tub? it will build up overtime and overwhelmed the plants ability to uptake the nutrients no?
Yes we have worked in Illinois a few times. I have a great pond builder in Batavia IL that I work with and refer people to. Mike White of White Water Filters. Tell him The Pond Digger Referred you if you call! But if you are interested in Mobilizing our team to build for you we would love the opportunity!
When I see pennywoth, I cringe in fear. I will never, ever, use this plant in any of my watergardens ever again. The Plant that filters most for me is my Large Taros, the root systems are massive and they grow like crazy without going everywhere.
Your not supposed to use the scissors on elephant ear your supposed to pull downward and remove the whole leaf stem this will cause less shock to the plant and reduce harm to new growth

Really enjoyed this series. 👍
Not in this series since the lily we brought was already planted. But it sounds like a video we need to shoot! Thanks for the question.

I am having a heck of a time find who sells those large pond plants like you have! I ordered some on-line but they are so small!!
+Tone Poet Yes on line plant sells usually offer small specimens to save on shipping. You will need to find a local supplier or grow them up from small starter plants you get on line. Thank you for watching!

Are there issues with glue leaching into the water? Looks amazing and great video.
No issues with the glue once it drys. Thanks for the comment!
What are some good shade loving bog filter plants?

+Nano Kumo Bog filters work well with koi!
Idk if this a early question but can you fully submersed the plants and have them grow out the water ?

love the videos... whats the small plant name?
Not sure what plant you are referring too.
@@ThePondDigger the small ones with round leaf
Pennywort
Loved this, created one myself and its working wonders for my gold fish pond. I have a few videos of it on my page.
+Ozzie K Great to hear your feedback! I hope you are DIGGING our New Goldfish Discussions videos!! Stay tuned for more!

I live in England, could I use an Iris or two in a bog filter?
Are you going to go over how to pot/plant lilies?
Please tell me the common and scientific Names of the huge tropical lily
For sure!

Will the copper tubing also deter mosquitos propagation?
No
What about winter season? Can this be year round in Dallas Texas?
+Michael Kerr Yes!
could you do the bog system in a 55 gallon aquarium?
The invasive plant.. Is that gotucola?
Reb Daza I am not familiar with gotucola. Sounds fun!
I think thats pennywort
does frog toads noots bring it decides to the pond
so all types of colocasia are good for pond?
+Joey Cutajar Great question. I don't know all of the types of colocasia but most all of the varieties I have encountered will work in bog conditions.
can I plant those in our lake?
Do you do work in the Midwest?
Illinois west of Chicago
hi..what size pump would you put on a 1300 gallon pond ?
how much would a setup like that cost
You can put the bog plants deeper in the water but there is a point when you risk killing the plant. Some plants can handle deeper waters than others.
I hope you've got a large compost pile to throw all those leaves in ;)
When I plant these bulbs, the growth is very, very small??!
Why?
All these plants can grow without soil. Essentially they will be growing like hydroponics.
Thanks
These plants need some soil to grow. How can you grow them on gravel ?
Lahiru Warnakula 6
Does this bog filter promote mosquito propagation?
I am worried about the zika virus.
NO! I am not happy about zika one bit!
are these perennial?
+tony walsh In california all of these plants come back after winter. Some of them are topical that will be green year round.
watching and learning, watch out taro /elephant ear is poisonous
Is this Rick from Pawn stars?
no
