+Ross Boylan haha that made me laugh. I have done that before, a few times actually. I take a lot of screenshots and bring them into a paint package and I've been known to click them. I call those moments, brain farts.
Ok so I am new to tweaking computers etc. I've tweaked cars and phones all with a degree of nervousness, however, I had full confidence in your instruction and it has paid off dividends. You are simply superb Matt Davis!
I've been using dx10 preview mode with no cfg tweaks on my i3 laptop for over a year, its as smooth as glass compared to dx9. The various texture glitches can be solved manually with a bit of Googling around. I use openclouds, mytrafficx, a shader mod, fairly high settings, and it looks quite impressive! For a lower spec system dx10 is vastly less work to get running smooth. I don't know why it isn't supported by more scenery developers.
Thank god for this guide ... I hate.. I rly hate blurries. Tweaking FSX cost lot of nerves and plenty of time. But THIS ... is awesome. Highly recomended.
Hi Matt, many thanks for this video (and all of your others). I had just did a fresh install of FSX a month ago after a hiatus of a couple of years, and ironically, DX9 was very unstable for me, so I had purchased the DX10 Fixer last month, and not only have the things I didn't like about DX10 been corrected, but my stability issues have been resolved. Thanks also about the Weather/Clouds tip for users of Active Sky (God! I LOVE the clouds generated by ASN!). A request I have for a short video is for users of both REX Essential Plus (for weather textures) and ASN (for weather generation); specifically, how to config each when preparing a flight with FSX. I "think" I figured it out, but it'd be great to see a short video from someone like yourself on this topic. Cheers from Phoenix, Arizona, USA (where the temperature today will be 29.4 Celsius ).
I love you man, i truly do. After your tweaking guides, my FSX is running as never before. I can max out every single detail and still maintain perfect smoothnes. You are doing great job!
Followed all your suggestions, Matt, including the Nvidia Inspector changes and FSX cfg tweaks. My FSX has never, ever run better than it is now. My new I7 4790k CPU and Nvidia GTX 760 card are providing me with a level of smoothness and detail I previously only dreamt about since implementing your tweaks. I highly recommend them to others. Thanks so much for the advice.
I did exactly what you've explained in your video (observing the different aspects of our hardwares of course) and I've reached my objectives. The game is just perfectly smooth and beautiful now. Thank you, Matt!
Just wanted to send a thank you your way. This was very helpful and works like a charm. I just needed to see it all done step by step, fixer/.cfg/inspector/settings... and you did it! Thanks!
I started optimizing my FSX to DX10 after a new install.(After havent played FSX in a year! Now the Game is running amazing. I have concealed the beast! I had been waiting for so long to run it like this :)
Thankyou for uploading this. I've spent a frustrating couple of months fiddling around with the blasted cfg file using recommendations from a whole host of different sites. I recently built a new x-99 i7 based rig with a high end video card and was amazed I was only getting 12-18 fps out of it. Following your instructions in this video I have finally managed to get 30FPS to a point where the simulator is now usable. It's a shame the software requires so much configuring outside of the game itself as I would imagine there are a lot of new steam edition users out there who have given up on it. Note:- for anyone else who has recently upgraded their hardware and having similar problems to me, I took Matt's advice and bought the DX10 Fixer software.
Hey I very much enjoyed your video, wasn't going to enable DX10 however now what i've learned from your simplistic straightforward explanation I'm gonna tweak the heck out of FSX.
Hey, I just wanted to say a big thanks for the video. Decided to take the leap and go to DX10 now the fixer is back on the flight sim store. Between this guide and the updated one I have got a nice stable FSX running at 24-28 fps with the PMDG 777 and 737 at EGKK UK2000. Still to try the Airbus 318/9/20/21 but it looks good.
I did get it working correctly, of course some of my settings outside of the fixer is diferent than yours I managed to get rid of the majority of the blurries, my texture max load some how was set to 27, I changed it to 6 and works great
This is kind a result of my tweaking, most of them sourced from Matt´s videos. Now i can focus on adding some other stuff but no need to worry about performance. DHC-6 Twin Otter at UK2000 Luton scenery
matt - the affinity mask for amd FX8350 8 core - is 254 for 7 cores, or 255 for all 8 cores, just for future refrence, since rarely anyone mentions 8 core pcs cheers
Although I have been using DX10 for around 2 months, just couldn't it right, having watched your video, its now smooth as with great performance, with amazing graphics. Thanks
Hey Matt, maybe you can help. I followed this guide. When I did the DX10 fixer my son runs so good but every once in awhile the screen goes black and gen pops back on? Is it something I did? I have a Radeon card but never had this problem. I'm running FSX SE
Ouch, the tearing at the beginning there is painful! Also, it may be worth pointing out that you should you should set the in-game settings BEFORE the cfg as it will reset any values associated with sliders if touched! I shan't be using DX10 as I just don't like the incompatibility and the idea of cost for something that should already be there, but otherwise sound advice, Matt! :) In terms of fps, I have no problems, although using nvidia inspector to limit wasn't something I had thought of, so I may try that. But I would say a good monitor (Dell actually make fantastic monitors) will get you the detailed colours that are what people want..
If I link to this video, will I be sued by IVAO too? ... again. for the same reason as last time: linking to one of your videos in my description? lel thanks for this video! helped me heaps!
Hi Matt, 3 months have past since you post this video. Wondering if you are still running DX10 and if there are any additional comments/recomendations. I recently upgraded my system to include a GTX760 and not too happy with the results so far. Still doing my R&D. Thank you for your support.
I found a fixer by Steve on AVsim, called DX10 Shader Fixers V3.2.2. Is that the same thing as the one you can purchase via flightsimstore? When turning the DX10 preview on after applying the fix, all airport buildings went grey, and at some airports ground textures were missing, any suggestions? Thanks, and keep up the good work Matt! Looking forward to ProjectFly!
Hi Matt.. A great informative video but i have some questions i hope you can answer. After doing this procedure i added sweetfx for an even better look. After doing so im not able to start up my fsx.. Tried uninstalling sweetfx and then it starts up. Do you know why this happends?
Hi Matt, In the video, you set your FSX filtering to anisotropic, however in your cfg you have the display device set for TriLinear. wazzup wid dat? Thanks for your great videos.
Hi Matt, great video. Just wondered, are your tearing issues due to Aero? I had this and created a batch file called FSX.bat containing only the following 2 lines: net stop uxsms net start uxsms Then make an entry in your FSUIPC4.ini file to call it every time FSX starts with (including the quotes): [Programs] Run1=HIDE,"C:\FSX\FSX.bat" Pointing to where you saved your batch file of course. I also have these 2 in the fsx.cfg ForceWindowedVsync=1 ForceFullscreenVsync=1 If I'm barking up the wrong tree ignore me ;) but this works for me. Cheers.
This is a bit confusing, in your video we can see VC shadows but in your FSX settings you do not have "Aircraft Casts Shadows On Itself" enabled, you need this enabled to get shadows in your VC and on other parts of the aircraft. Also, in your description above it shows your are using Trilinear filtering for your GTX780 but in the video you have filtering set to Anisotopic.
Hello +Matt Davies, I have an issue using fsx and the dx10: i often see, appearing and disappearing, big black/grey squares where there are clouds (only where there should be cirrus.. with cumulus and other clouds i don't have any problem). I'm using the Steve DX10 fixer. Usually I fly with ASN, but there is not the problem, I have noticed the same issue by using default weather or others engines such as FS real WX. what should i do?
Actually DX10 does NOT majorly alter visual performance! Hell, the only thing I noticed was that water seems more realistic! (yay) But then again I only started using DX10 today ;) (before you ask I have had DX10 since before it was taken off the market I just never used it XD) However, my FPS appear to have increased! (Well I did not do any proper tests so...) Also, all my FS menus are blank and fog is just blue and glitchy! In fact, Its so gltchy that I have turned DX10 off! (I am using your FSX.CFG to no avail) (please help...)
Hey Matt nice video, thanks for sharing. One question... I recently purchased FSX steam edition (for compatibility with windows 8.1) and I was wondering can I still tweak the DX10, even though it's on steam?
Hi Matt, Amazing tutorial and managed to enhance my FSX a little better than before but nothing as good as yours. I'm new to your channel but is there a tutorial on how to get real world airlines including the AI's? Will you be able to show us how do you do it?On the other hand, I realized the navigational panel on your planes are new (with weather, radar, etc), has the navigational panel been updated? I'm a little clueless and hope you could help me out.
Hi Matt, thanks for the tutorial. Helped me alot in my DX10 setup. Was wondering if you could make a similiar tutorial for P3D? Just purchased P3D but can seem to get my settings right and espicially with my ABX. Would appreciate alot. Im sure the rest would benefit as well. Thanks
Greetings Matt, I'm sure you get this question all the time, what is your suggested machine setup for FSX? I'm looking to upgrade equipment and can request the build as needed. CPU, Graphic cards, Memory, OS., ....I've been simming for only a couple months, but the older dual core / windows 7 machine is struggling to keep up. Also, my machine also doesn't play well with the A2A C172 autopilot altitude hold, thought it might be machine related, any thoughts. Keep em coming!
DX10 Fixer is no longer available on the link you posted can you give us a alternate thank you i have been googling this Sh*t for long but i cant find where to buy this DX10 Fixer can you help Matt
I ran the current FSX scenery fixer. After watching your video many of the CFG files are no longer present such as "buffer pools" as well as "swap wait timeout"[JOBSCHEDULER] "Affinity Mask" "Batching JObs" "texture max load" all of them are simply absent. Is any of this relevant with the "Fixer" FSX on my system is running terribly once any sort of weather engine is involved. I am running an AMD-5350 8 core 4.0GHZ MSI Nvidia 770 twin Fozr 2gb card G skill sniper 8g ram Asus pro r2 MB EVGA supernova power supply SSD 250 gig Hard drive Please advise Thanks!
I have a small problem with dx10. Everything works great... except with IVAO-IVAP When i fly online and i get ATC then i must select teamspeak to talk, i can not stay in my cockpit them teamspeak will not response. Do you maybe know what this problem is. Tks
hello matt, i'm having an issue with my PMDG 747. everytime i input any ICAO into the FMC, the respond is always "not in database", i've installed and reinstalled AIRAC 1407 for PMDG, but its still not working, i dont do any change to the aircraft, thanks. it would be great if you can help me
Hi I need some input please. I was thinking of buying another payware aircraft and picking up DX10 Fixer. Would I be better off purchasing a P3D academic license?I also run REX4, FTX Global, Vector and Trees for FSX Thanks
I am considering trying DX10 in FSX. As I read somewhere on the Internet: "To DX10 or not to DX10" (credits to whoever this phrase is from). Lets see what happens to my FSX.
Have you done any flying in Sweden. If not pleas do. For example landvetter to Umeå airport with the pmdg 737 and a sas livery. It would be a short and nice video. Thank you
I followed your guide exactly, and the results are quite amazing...I'm just having one small (but very annoying) problem...my ground textures often will flicker, just for a split second, and totally at random. I know the issue is DX10 related, because it goes away when I disable DX10. Any thoughts on what this could be?
I dont know what "Steve" is being spoken about in this vid but I switched to DX10 and cleaned al DX10-related bugs with a fixer from a guy named Steve Parsons but the software is F R E E. It also looks kinda different from that widget GUI is shown in this vid BUT it has worked flawlessly for me and IT DOES FIX THE RUNWAY FLASHING. I dont see that option in the one shown here. Anyway, take, read and enjoy stevesfsxanalysis.wordpress.com
i have an issue. When i'm using dx 10 i see the scenery getting streched fromth the ground towards the sky but when i change it back to dx9 it dosen't happen.
Matt,my fsx gets black out when I switch to dx10 using the fixer,I have entered the correct value in the fsx.cfg.Any fix?i have also set the correct settings in NI
There are so many versions of tweaking in the video including yours..it is so confusing..there seem to be no ending in tweaking process. For example,,...your system is using AMD and activesky weather while others are using nvidia n rex4..so to what extend diff in these system n addon affect the tweaking process for each system including its compatibility...
Hey Matt, I just got one problem with DX10... My performance is dropping down to about 17Fps when I'm flying above overcast clouds or in generell much thick clouds. Do you have an idea what this problem may could be about? My clouds are 512x512 DXT5 THnaks!
RejectThreshold has no effect if UsePools = 0. Also, the NI profile isn't 100% correct. Set Anti-aliasing compatibility DX1X to the Bioshock 2 preset. Set Anti-aliasing Gamma correction to ON. The best settings are 4x/4x SSGS, 8x doesn't show benefit and over-stresses the gpu. You should change clamp to allow and set LOD Bias (DX) to -1.000 if you're using 4x SGSS, lower (-1.5) if you use 8x (also check Avsim dx10 how-to guide). Max pre-rendered frames - the higher, the more input lag you're going to have. It's recommended to set it to 'Use the 3D application setting' or '1'. Also, you have a bunch of things you can turn ON without losing fps, which are lens flare, bloom, aircraft shadow on the ground and self shadowing. If you want sweet-fx, you can add that too, check my threads on Avsim to find out exactly how to set up SFX correctly when using DX10. Otherwise, great and informative video, as usual! :)
HardwareAddiction Thanks, this link lead me to a whole bunch of new info on DX10 I never new existed. Set up guides and great well explained tutorials. Thanks again.
I have a question for you, and since you seem to be well versed in this stuff maybe you can help. I had been using DX9 with an ENB, and just recently I found this video and switched to DX10, which has been great except for one thing. Now that I am using DX10 with all of these tweaks, everything is now very sharp compared to how it used to be. It had been, in DX9, very soft edges, but now with DX10 all of the edges are sharp. Also, note that I am not talking about AA. So, my question to you is......How do I get rid of some of that sharpness and make the edges smooth again? I would assume that it may be related to an AA option within NI, but I do not know what to change exactly. Thanks
Hi Matt, I realize this is an older video but I just installed Steve's DX10 Fixer and really not sure what the settings should be so your video is very helpful. I am using FSX-SE I do not use Nvidia Inspector because two reasons - 1. I am afraid to use it for fear of messing things up and 2. I actually have my FSX.CFG tweaked so well that I consistently get 25 - 60 FPS and never have any OOM. Having said all this I would like to give Inspector a go so can you offer any help to me regarding setting up. Here is my system: Laptop: MSI GP62 6QF-480CA - Operating System: Windows 10 Home CPU: Intel Core i7-6700HQ. 4 cores, 8 threads. Base clock 2.6 GHz, turbo 3.3 GHz (avg) GPU: Nvidia GTX960M 2GB RAM: 16GB Drive: SSD - Samsung 850 EVO M.2 500GB
I got excited and clicked on your taskbar in the video, I'm not a smart man lol
+Ross Boylan haha that made me laugh. I have done that before, a few times actually. I take a lot of screenshots and bring them into a paint package and I've been known to click them. I call those moments, brain farts.
Ok so I am new to tweaking computers etc. I've tweaked cars and phones all with a degree of nervousness, however, I had full confidence in your instruction and it has paid off dividends. You are simply superb Matt Davis!

Just a note, the fixer is back on sale, just purchased today.
Matt, thanks for the video.

thanks for the info my friend! hesitated but now gonna do it thx to u
Can't fly without DX10 for years now. Used steves fixes before they were commercial. Thanks for this though Matt!

The image in the video was tearing severely. Is that just me, or do others notice it?
vsync should reduce tearing
The intro is fire
Wow now I got like 40fps on Airbus X on my notebook :D
Thank you sooo much sir!!
Thank you very much Matt Davies, it helped me out and i can now run my FSX so smooth, thanks to you! :)
Matt thanks for the tips you are Flightsim DX10 guru
Very cool! Keep up the great information! Thanks from Canada.
Thanks a lot for the file share, it made my Fsx a lot more smoother and amazing frame rates, thanks man!

That intro... So great
Thanks! My FPS increased a lot!
Hi Matt, 3 months have past since you post this video. Wondering if you are still running DX10 and if there are any additional comments/recomendations. I recently upgraded my system to include a GTX760 and not too happy with the results so far. Still doing my R&D. Thank you for your support.

Also, I believe you were on London Control this evening. Great job from EZY8955 :)
love your videos, I can't manage to get the bluries out of my dx9 runways and taxiways
Love your intro man, JUST LOVE IT!
Love your videos always very helpful
Love the intro Matt!
Hi Matt,
In the video, you set your FSX filtering to anisotropic, however in your cfg you have the display device set for TriLinear. wazzup wid dat? Thanks for your great videos.
try anistropic in the cfg? i surr will try it,
Thanks!!! Your videos are super awesome and helpful!
Everytime I adjust the FPS limiter using NVidia Inspector, it returns to default after a reboot. How to fix this?
Hi Matt, great video. Just wondered, are your tearing issues due to Aero? I had this and created a batch file called FSX.bat containing only the following 2 lines:
net stop uxsms
net start uxsms
Then make an entry in your FSUIPC4.ini file to call it every time FSX starts with (including the quotes):
[Programs]
Run1=HIDE,"C:\FSX\FSX.bat"
Pointing to where you saved your batch file of course.
I also have these 2 in the fsx.cfg
ForceWindowedVsync=1
ForceFullscreenVsync=1
If I'm barking up the wrong tree ignore me ;) but this works for me.
Cheers.
I followed your guide and have the same hardware as you, and now I have blury textures, but my frams went from 30-50
Hi Matt did the RT-1 text Addon next to AffinityMask= 84 work for you as suggested by Chris...?
This is a bit confusing, in your video we can see VC shadows but in your FSX settings you do not have "Aircraft Casts Shadows On Itself" enabled, you need this enabled to get shadows in your VC and on other parts of the aircraft. Also, in your description above it shows your are using Trilinear filtering for your GTX780 but in the video you have filtering set to Anisotopic.

Very informative Matt!
Hi Matt, i have a recommendation for a video. Fsx tweak guide for low specs please?
Hey Matt nice video, thanks for sharing. One question... I recently purchased FSX steam edition (for compatibility with windows 8.1) and I was wondering can I still tweak the DX10, even though it's on steam?

On your previous video about the A320 that was an hour and a half long (it was a very good video) how did you get the live ATC?
Hey Matt, Thanks for the video firstly. Can you please tell me which Recorder you use to reocrd your FSX Videos? Thanks in Advance. :)
Great video, but, I really don't see any visual enhancements with DX10 vs DX9.
DX10 Fixer is no longer available on the link you posted can you give us a alternate thank you i have been googling this Sh*t for long but i cant find where to buy this DX10 Fixer can you help Matt
hahhahha anything under = potato hahaha i still watching it
lmao
nice video as usual, thank you.
what are your settings in the dx10 fixer options?
Doesn't ForceFullScreenVSync=1 decrease fsx performance?
hello Matt thank you for tweek Good Job ;)
I ran the current FSX scenery fixer. After watching your video many of the CFG files are no longer present such as "buffer pools" as well as "swap wait timeout"[JOBSCHEDULER] "Affinity Mask" "Batching JObs" "texture max load" all of them are simply absent.

Hey Matt, really nice video, I have looked all over the internet to see if DX10 supports UK2000 Scenery, would you know?
I have a small problem with dx10.
Everything works great... except with IVAO-IVAP
When i fly online and i get ATC then i must select teamspeak to talk, i can not stay in my cockpit them teamspeak will not response.
Do you maybe know what this problem is.
Tks

Hi I need some input please. I was thinking of buying another payware aircraft and picking up DX10 Fixer. Would I be better off purchasing a P3D academic license?I also run REX4, FTX Global, Vector and Trees for FSX
Thanks
If the MAX_ASYNC_BATCHING_JOBS=3 line is not there do i need to add it manually?
I am considering trying DX10 in FSX. As I read somewhere on the Internet: "To DX10 or not to DX10" (credits to whoever this phrase is from). Lets see what happens to my FSX.
Great! But the new nvdia inspector does not mach yours...
my friend, you set your affinity mask 84 but no hyperthread on.
84 with no ht
or 84 with ht on
Have you done any flying in Sweden.
Hi.
I followed this tutorial but now my FSX isn't starting at all, please help.
Thanks
Hey matt
Maybe you should make a prepar3d tweaking guide...
It would be very helpful
Thanks for considering in advance
Could you include all the cfg entries you've added in the description, like you did with your 2013 guide?
***** Thanks! I appreciate it! :)
Do these tweaks apply to the DX9? Or is it only the DX10 tweaking tutorial? Thanks! :)
i have an issue.
Thanks for the info. Would this improve the visuals with a potato processor(I3)? Thanks.
Hey Matt,
I just got one problem with DX10... My performance is dropping down to about 17Fps when I'm flying above overcast clouds or in generell much thick clouds. Do you have an idea what this problem may could be about? My clouds are 512x512 DXT5
THnaks!
as I can see VSync doesn't work on your PC despite you have enabled it in .cfg, am I right?
Matt, Affinity Mask for the Skylake-architecture Intel Core i3-6100?
Have you already made a video about OOM? :)
...But is the rippling I see in the video a side effect? Or is that a recording bug?
Love ya videos Matt!
Would I be correct in assuming that display device setting would be the same if my graphics card was the GTX 770?
Can you post some links to your threads, Very interested. Never bothered with DX10 but decided to try this.

Thanks
Logan Schanie I actually made a new website that consolidates and explains everything: simtweak.com
Here is my system:
