I'm glad Alex gave some more recognition to "today I laid down". Hearing about bl4ck m4rket c4rt's passing after the creation of that album was genuinely devastating, kid had some incredible talent
Learned about it from BTIM, and it was so crushing and amazing as the fact that they were 17 when it was made, which is just insane to me as that’s about my age.
this is such a chill podcast to listen too while I study. Listening to the bjork episode helped me get through a late night study session without losing my mind lol. Putting this on while I do exams, excited to hear about your fave albums and learn your music tastes
I've been getting this channel recommended for a while and figured the girl in the thumbnails kinda looked like aztro, but I thought it was just some random channel. Needless to say I've binged all the episodes after figuring out it actually is aztro AND mika. You two have such a great dynamic :)
I usually don’t listen to albums the year the drop, but Scaring the Hoes was phenomenal. It was frequently in rotation along with the estate sale by Tyler.
so interesting to watch this as a person with no music knowledge, just listening to 2 people talk about it is such a vibe btw love you two and your work
Top albums for me 1. Temporary Forever - Busdriver (Absolutely wild experimental hip-hop/rap album, off the wall lyrics, he literally freestyles at a hardees halfway through the album, got me through many tough times, awesome album) 2. California - Mr Bungle (Expirimental Rock at it's finest, I love it so much, Mike Patton has the weirdest voice in the best way) 3. Choirs of The Eye - Kayo Dot (Avante Garde Metal my beloved, The Manifold Curiosity may as well be the best song on earth) 4. ...Because I'm Young Arrogant and Hate Everything You Stand For - Machine Girl (Just awesome, I love digital hardcore, and I fucking hate Elon Musk) 5. Hellfire - Black Midi (Post-Punk Jazz Rock with a instrumentals that only sound like they could be performed by a human with 6 hands, just awesome)
It’s amazing how insightful Alex’s commentary can be when A. Panda isn’t here to cut him off with gibberish (no offense to panda) and B. When he’s not getting offended by a sex joke. Also it’s awesome that you guys got to do a live show! I’d be quaking in my boots if I ever had to perform anything on stage, even if it was a lowkey thing.
My favourite album from 2023 was the new sprain LP the lamb as effigy. Crazy noise rock and post rock tracks that just entranced me from the first listen. Monumental record, would love to hear a possible episode
hearing both of your #1 albums literally made me jump out of my seat. Both of those albums are in my top 5, along with Model/Actriz's Dogsbody, King Krule's Space Heavy, and Jane Remover's Census Designated! Loved listening to this while doing physics hw at 1AM ^_^
Actually sick that Aztrid brought up the Pizza Tower soundtrack. I never would’ve thought that you guys would’ve talked about video game ost’s, you guys are cracked for that. Another sick video game soundtrack that came out this year would be the soundtrack for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. It’s like Jet Set Radio 2, and they got Hideki Naganuma to compose for them too!
An album released last year that I enjoyed a lot was "Abandon All Hope" by Ethan P. Flynn. It's a really nice album based mostly around acoustic guitar but with lots of extra instrumentation. It might be that I really enjoy long songs, but the track "Crude Oil" was probably one of my favorite songs of the year. The title track has some spectacular horns and textures, too, which really caught me when I first listened to it as a single. Ethan P. Flynn has a nice discography too, with his previous release "Universal Deluge" having some amazing tracks on it.
This gives me so much new music to explore. It was a pleasure to listen to as always. Also, after hearing about it on SDP, I honestly enjoyed ‘Gaburger’ despite some controversy about the artist.
I'm so glad you talked about Wallsocket! It's def my favorite of 2023. been a fan of knower's for a while but i felt like the new album was a bit of a backslide from life. my record of the year was “shield” by salute, an overlooked garage ep that really blew me away production-wise

Honestly I just want to thank you guys so much for doing this podcast. I’ve been listening to sleep deprived since September so I’m still a new fan, but I always feel like the podcast scratched the surface of your personalities and hobbies. This podcast just seems to completely open a side of you we’ve never seen, and its what I’ve wanted to see for so so long!! Not only that, but I’ve always been curious about your guys’ music taste and opinion after listening to both of your music for a couple of months now- so getting recommendations that are not only so frequent, but in an amazing quality too? Like I cannot resist visiting every album after hearing you guys talk about them. And I’ve honestly never been one for visiting new music at the rate I have been after listening to your podcast. So thank you. I seriously love you guys and everything you make :) I was wondering if you guys would ever cover albums in other languages too? For example some of Rosalia’s works and maybe even vocaloid like wowaka-p🤭 But assuming you stick to english only, I’d love to see an episode on AJJ, specifically Knife Man. Hearing Alex mention he liked folk but also knowing of Astrid’s louder(? or maybe I mean noiser?) tastes, I think you guys would love it. Especially because when I first listened to Alex Unknown, the lyrics reminded me of AJJ! I really, really hope you guys cover it eventually ❤️❤️ But if not I still love listening to you guys gush out so much anyways
Listening to the pod while boarding up for a snowstorm, loved listening to you guys gush about your favorite albums. Also- listening to softscars while watching the snow fall just now was an immaculate vibe, thanks for the recommendation !
i know this is an older episode but i want to post my top 5 so bad… listening to this podcast makes me realize i’m not as big of a music nerd as i thought and i just have loser taste LMAO intellectual property - waterparks, my fav band ever idc i thought this was fantastic and SO fun!! back to the water below - royal blood, i think this is their best record yet, seeing waves live changed my life so much (for) stardust - fall out boy, i will never grow out of my middle school taste… their best album in years and years though and an INSANE concert good lord…… it’s never fair, always true - JAWNY, by far my favorite pop record i listened to in 2023 it’s absolutely amazing, he is criminally underrated!!! zig - poppy, she is my favorite solo artist and i thought this was such a fun record, it’s incredible how versatile she is and how well she pulls it off!!
I re-listened to Painkiller's "Guts of a Virgin" Album recently. I listened to it a really long time ago, but I totally forgot how it went. I have to say, it makes for an insane workout! Tracks can be really short (A few seconds) to a couple minutes, but the mix of Mick Harris' Machine-gun drumming, Bill Laswell's 6-string Bass, and John Zorn's Saxophone squeals and screams, it KILLS!
I love listening to this podcast while I focus on my uni work, its so chill. Thank you for your top 5s and honourable mentions, I want to listen to more music this year so these will be a great place to start 😄
Honestly last year has been my favorite year for music ever since getting really into music With two 10/10 albums, ants from up there & hellfire coming out that same year. So this year felt a bit stale in comparison but it still had some great highlights for me My top 5 projects of 2023 are: 1. 3D country - Geese 2. Scaring the hoes - JPEGmafia & Danny Brown 3. Dogsbody - Model/Actriz 4. 93639 - Liturgy 5. HAGEUKO - Hage-o With the number 5 spot being an EP I probably revised the most Being a lesser known math pop/ post hardcore band coming from Poland I didn’t understand a word that was being said on this project. Which I don’t think is needed as all my enjoyment for this project is a product of the catchy melodies, great riffs, chaotic and ever changing song structures and a super passionate & weird singer. Even tho not my favorite project of this year it had me the most impressed and I really look forward to what they’re going to do next.
you both talked about it but id absolutely love an episode about wallsocket purely bc of the story of the album and the ARG surrounding it also for reccomendations- its gotta be come in by weatherday, solid 80% chance astrid at least has already listened to it but if not then its an easy 10/10
Great episode! Although, I did notice neither of you mention the 2023 Dying Fetus album "Make Them Beg For Death". How come? Did you guys just forget about it, honest mistake, hehe ha!
This podcast genuinely means so much to me, one of my special interests is definitely music, i cant go a day without it and im just overrall fascinated by it all. Its so freeing to be able to hear you two geek out about your favorite songs and it just makes me happy and im able to get new music because of you! Hope you both are doing well :)
i love george clanton. absolutely one of my top artists i recommend people see live. the visuals, his singing, the instrumentals, the crowd, everything. love that guy and his work
Seeing vids from the event, even as limited as it were, and pics from fans was really cute i wont lie. I didnt go cause im half a country away but still it seemed like a cool even. My picks gotta include stuff from moxifloxi and recently Chaser - femtanyl, because im a weirdo.
Knower Forever is really a culmination of so many amazing talents. Louis Cole's composition and production skills are outstanding as always, his unique mixes and catchy melodies really set this album apart from it's contemporaries. Every song has an interesting mix of people Cole has worked with for a while, and you can feel the chemistry oozing from every performance. Sam Gendel's sax is great on every track he's on, both bass players on this album, MonoNeon and Sam Wilkes, each have their own unique style that adds some variety between tracks, and the orchestra and choir parts feel like a strong floor for everything else to stand on. It really feels like a true evolution of Louis Cole's past works.
Please GOD listen to wetdream by willy rodriguez it came out like literally a week before the year ended but it swept anything else that was released last year, actually one of the best things I have ever heard.
this year was so stacked for me so much so i could hardly even pick a top 5, with rock albums like Dogsbody, The Lamb as Effigy, After the magic/night, Census designated and hip hop albums like Scaring the hoes, Maps, We buy diabetic test strips, i couldnt find an easy AOTY for me. If there was a gun to my head i'd probably say The Lamb as Effigy but every other one i mentioned also got played the FUCK out of me. TLAE managed to hit me with the "swans"esque post rock/experimental rock sound i never got into through swans, at first i just loved the way they shape noise in the album, it feels actually *searing* - something i havent heard in an album since Schlagenheim (in my top 3 favourite albums OAT). The best way i can describe it is if you mixed the noise rock of Black midi, post rock of Swans, and vocal style of BCNR's Isaac wood, with some added american poetic twang. It can be exciting and it can be downtempo and calm and it can be poetic or harrowing. Its just such a good display of ART in a noise rock way. I have a very limited vynil collection but after my second listen i immediately bought it cuz it was so good. on the episode: really appreciate seeing the bl4ck m4rket c4rt shoutout, the album was so peaceful yet so mournful at the same time. Maps is actually Billy woods (a conscious/abstract hip hop veteran) and Kenny segal's 2nd collab album, their first one - Hiding places (2019) is also amazing though the production is more post punky/abstract rather than jazzy. Armand hammer (a rap duo Billy woods is in) also dropped Haram (2021) with production from the alchemist, yall should check it out if you like the jazzyness of Maps. Overall Billy woods has a HUGE and AMAZING discog ngl.
just wondering... would it be possible to link the album(s) that u mention in each episode of the podcast in the description? I am really interested in listening to your favorites but i have a hard time keeping up with your chatting and tend to not understand the albums you talk about mostly because english is my second language. Thank you in advance luv u
so youtube has this annoying new feature where we cant actually put non-youtube links in the description yet (but i will list the names of the albums in the description!!)
Sorry for this essay of a comment but I like yapping about music so here I go. If I’m being completely honest, even tho I love music, I hadn’t really focused on any music let alone new music because I had been busy with uni. But the 2 albums that really stuck out to me that I did get to catch when they released was NCT127’s album called Ay-yo and Kim Dracula’s debut album A Gradual Decline in Morale. NCT127 kpop and Kim Dracula is an alternative trap artist. My two main genres are Kpop and Rock so that’s my range. If kpop isn’t your thing I get it, tbh they came out with that album so early in 2023 that I forgot but I recommend those who are interested in Kpop. And if you’re into noise music NCT127 (NCT in general really) is the Kpop group for you! I totally recommend Kim Dracula’s music. He was the guy that made the emo version of paparazzi and it went viral on TikTok in like 2022 and they make their own music. I actually checked out his music as a joke but I genuinely liked their music. When this album came out I was taken aback because Kim Drac is the type of artist to mix in different genres (check out Make Me Famous and Land of the Sun) and this album strings together like every track flows seamless (hopefully that made sense). I reallllly recommend this album and Johnathan Davis from Korn has a feature in one of the track and I love it so much!! Kim Dracula became my top artist for 2023 which is crazy because I discovered his music as a joke at first.
I listen to mostly pop and reggaeton so I'm glad that I can get some good recommendations here bc I want to start branching out in the music I listen to! My top 5 for this past year would probably have to be: 1) Desire, I want to turn into you by Caroline Polachek 2) Heaven Knows by pinkpantheress 3) Something to give each other by Troye Sivan 4) Nadíe Sabe Lo que va pasar mañana by Bad Bunny 5) Red Moon in Venus by Kali Uchis
Last year I really got into music, it started like late 2022 when I started getting into hyperpop a bunch for the first time but over 2023 a lot of really good stuff came out! My top 5 would have to be (no particular order) Wallsocket, Myrtle broadway & the big bang theory by can of bliss, Rat Wars by Health, Census Designated by Jane Remover, and Earwax by six impala Not released this year but i also really got into Machine Girl's more hardcore discography they have fs become my favorite artist i've been listening to "...because i'm young arrogant and hate everything you stand for" so much these last couple months. Also got big into Cybergrind this year, it's like this tiny very online electronic metal scene going on. Big albums for that are BEJIBLE which is just an absolutely insane album i really don't know how to describe it... also death awaits by blind equation was cool as hell its this like nintendocore cybergrind its awesome. would like to say i listened to softscars for the first time after hearing Alex talk about it and I really digged it incredible album
Great picks peeps, heres my top 5 for 2023: 1. Lankum - False Lankum 2. NEXT GIRLZ babyMINT - babyMINT Loading… FUN! 3. asia menor - Enola Gay 4. tisaKOREAN - Let Me Update My Status 5. Chuquimamani-Condori - DJ E
#1 Raising ravens- leaving with the halflight Jess Finalayson does it all! She writes, plays guitar and sings on this beautifully done album!! 2 Any given sin- war 3 Gideon- more power more pain 4 Motive black- auburn 5 Cold stares- voices 6 Pop evil- skeletons 7 Phil Campbell- kings of the asylum 8 Saul -this is it..the end of everything 9 Buckcherry-10 10 Tyler Bryant- dirty work 11 Red- rated R 12 Lift the curse- suffer and survive 13 Throw the fight- strange world 14 Another day dawns- finding peace through all the noise 15 Blak29 16 Trashy Annie- sticks and stones 17 When rivers meet- aces are high 18 Post profit- self defeaterEP 19 War curse- confession 20 Texas hippie coalition- the name lives on 21 Saliva- revelation 22 Laura cox- head above water 23 Woyote- mother of the universe 24 Screaming eagles- high class rock n roll 25 Jesse James Dupree- breathing fire 26 Vera bloom- it’s meEP 27 King mountain- wrath of the gods 28 Duskwood- the last voyage 29 Fuzzrider- S/T 30 Fortune child- - ST ep 31 Deadly vices- dead inside ep
My top 5 albums (in no particular order): Build a Problem - dodie Kingdom Hearts 2 Soundtrack - Yoko Shimomura, Utada Hikaru I Made An Album - Daði Freyr Woman on the Internet - Orla Gartland If It Will - garlagan
I loved maps 100% my album of the year and was lucky to see em preform live i def would recommend Known Unknowns and Billys duo w ELUCID Armand Hammer new lp We buy diabetic test strip along w Beloved!Paradise!Jazz! as Astrid mentioned liking Ghais who's ft on it
You guys should listen to Your Best Friend Jippy, he makes hip hop beats, mostly instrumental, and made 3 projects in 2023, beat Tape 38 and 39 and Lonnie Parachute (Parachute has a rapper on it)
I've been very surprised by the latest Rolling Stones album. Lots of raw energy. Bob Vylan goes hard with Humble as the Sun. Lemon Twigs with Everything Harmony. A highlight being In My Head, very chill song.
thanks for this channel, discovering new music to distract myself is just what i needed right now . side thought you guys should listen to Kevin Abstracts album Blanket, if you have not already . Maybe review it,?
Last year, I really felt like I began to reach the end of the pipeline with having a bunch of warp record stuff from the 90s in my rotation but I know there's another layer to drill into. It wasn't too difficult to get into with my ears getting used to DG and fka twigs, but ventolin by aphex twin and the electronic tracks from drukqs did challenge me a bit. Anyways, looking forward to the future of what's being work-shopped here and if there'll be anything new for me to get into throughout 2024.
My top 5 in no order is Estoy Bien - Apoyo Emocional Alan Palomo - World Of Hassle George Clanton - Ooh Rap I Ya Jonatan Leandoer96 - Sugar World Zach Bryan - S/T
OK im not sure if mika has already listened to this but if not please do yourself a favour and check this album out .Its "FORWARD" by jordan ward and it's mostly like an RnB album and I know you are into Frank Ocean and Sampha so you are gonna absolutely love it.
Hearing Astrid finally accept Sampha's existence is true character development

I found underscores last year through a friend of mine and I haven't been able to go back since, love her albums!!
Honestly last year has been my favorite year for music ever since getting really into music
With two 10/10 albums, ants from up there & hellfire coming out that same year.
So this year felt a bit stale in comparison but it still had some great highlights for me
My top 5 projects of 2023 are:
1. 3D country - Geese
2. Scaring the hoes - JPEGmafia & Danny Brown
3. Dogsbody - Model/Actriz
4. 93639 - Liturgy
5. HAGEUKO - Hage-o
With the number 5 spot being an EP I probably revised the most
Being a lesser known math pop/ post hardcore band coming from Poland I didn’t understand a word that was being said on this project.
Which I don’t think is needed as all my enjoyment for this project is a product of the catchy melodies, great riffs, chaotic and ever changing song structures and a super passionate & weird singer.
Even tho not my favorite project of this year it had me the most impressed and I really look forward to what they’re going to do next.
you both talked about it but id absolutely love an episode about wallsocket purely bc of the story of the album and the ARG surrounding it
also for reccomendations-
its gotta be come in by weatherday, solid 80% chance astrid at least has already listened to it but if not then its an easy 10/10
I Am Having So Much Fun by Patrick O'Neill is one of my favourites from last year, super good
Great episode! Although, I did notice neither of you mention the 2023 Dying Fetus album "Make Them Beg For Death". How come? Did you guys just forget about it, honest mistake, hehe ha!
PLEASE GO ON ABOUT A BAND CALLED HER'S THEY'RE AMAZING
underscores mentioned!!! I love wallsocket, in particular cops and robbers is so fun
I'M SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU TALK ABOUT SUFJAN STEVENS AND JAVELIN!!
Hellmode by Jeff rosenstock is definitely my favorite this year, it got me into his older stuff which is amazing too
great video, perfect to listen to in the background while i play cyber grind in ultrakill (day 3 of asking for will wood/will wood and the tapeworms)
This podcast genuinely means so much to me, one of my special interests is definitely music, i cant go a day without it and im just overrall fascinated by it all. Its so freeing to be able to hear you two geek out about your favorite songs and it just makes me happy and im able to get new music because of you! Hope you both are doing well :)
im at work rn but i quite literally could not wait any longer to watch this :)
Dude im so happy i found this :D
i love george clanton. absolutely one of my top artists i recommend people see live. the visuals, his singing, the instrumentals, the crowd, everything. love that guy and his work
Ayo, Knower Forever goes super hard, I love all of what it's doing :0!!!
Are you guys going to have some way to reccomened albums (either new albums or old favorites) in the future?
i love listening to these while i do homework:) great music suggestions too
History won't absolve me is my favorite billy woods album, I recommend.
Seeing vids from the event, even as limited as it were, and pics from fans was really cute i wont lie. I didnt go cause im half a country away but still it seemed like a cool even.
My picks gotta include stuff from moxifloxi and recently Chaser - femtanyl, because im a weirdo.
WOO!! YeaH!!! I love femtanyl :)
I think you guys should do Everywhere at the end of time for like a 100 ep special or something like that lmao.
A good album this year was good kid 3, they are incredibly underrated and this album was amazing, thats good kid 3, probably of Spotify.
Guys, this is epic !!
tbh my favourite album from 2023 was "The Jaws Of Life" by Pierce The Veil, lovely album
I have a very limited vynil collection but after my second listen i immediately bought it cuz it was so good.
on the episode:
really appreciate seeing the bl4ck m4rket c4rt shoutout, the album was so peaceful yet so mournful at the same time.
I loved This Is Why - Paramore.
Funeral - Arcade Fire isn’t from 2023 but I highly recommend it as well.
just wondering... would it be possible to link the album(s) that u mention in each episode of the podcast in the description? I am really interested in listening to your favorites but i have a hard time keeping up with your chatting and tend to not understand the albums you talk about mostly because english is my second language. Thank you in advance luv u
so youtube has this annoying new feature where we cant actually put non-youtube links in the description yet (but i will list the names of the albums in the description!!)
@@MusicPostingPodcastJust saw it thank you so much! I really love the podcast and the fact that you take suggestions really makes me happyyyy
knowing the creator, today I had to lay down is heartbreaking
Great episode so far, can't wait for the next one!
Yippee
Yall fw a little bit of swans?
Kim Dracula became my top artist for 2023 which is crazy because I discovered his music as a joke at first.
my favorite album this year was Pink Tape and my second favorite was Lahai
so happy to see that Schlatt and Apandah finally made their own podcast
L3Ft 4 D3aD by hi-c was def my fav album this year, dont know if yall would be into that type of music its like hyperpop rap

🎶 heart made of stone getting throat from a succubus🎶
y’all heard 3D country by geese ? easily my favorite from last year
we've been getting lots of recs for it!
I listen to mostly pop and reggaeton so I'm glad that I can get some good recommendations here bc I want to start branching out in the music I listen to! My top 5 for this past year would probably have to be:
1) Desire, I want to turn into you by Caroline Polachek
2) Heaven Knows by pinkpantheress
3) Something to give each other by Troye Sivan
4) Nadíe Sabe Lo que va pasar mañana by Bad Bunny
5) Red Moon in Venus by Kali Uchis
Also Kali just came out with a new album too and it's 😩🤌
Last year I really got into music, it started like late 2022 when I started getting into hyperpop a bunch for the first time but over 2023 a lot of really good stuff came out!
My top 5 would have to be (no particular order) Wallsocket, Myrtle broadway & the big bang theory by can of bliss, Rat Wars by Health, Census Designated by Jane Remover, and Earwax by six impala
Not released this year but i also really got into Machine Girl's more hardcore discography they have fs become my favorite artist i've been listening to "...because i'm young arrogant and hate everything you stand for" so much these last couple months.
Also got big into Cybergrind this year, it's like this tiny very online electronic metal scene going on. Big albums for that are BEJIBLE which is just an absolutely insane album i really don't know how to describe it... also death awaits by blind equation was cool as hell its this like nintendocore cybergrind its awesome.
would like to say i listened to softscars for the first time after hearing Alex talk about it and I really digged it incredible album

thanks for this channel, discovering new music to distract myself is just what i needed right now . side thought you guys should listen to Kevin Abstracts album Blanket, if you have not already .
My top 5 in no order is
Estoy Bien - Apoyo Emocional
Alan Palomo - World Of Hassle
George Clanton - Ooh Rap I Ya
Jonatan Leandoer96 - Sugar World
Zach Bryan - S/T
