For framing I use a douglas 19 oz hammer, for trimmnng I use an estwing 12 oz leather handled hammer, and for concrete forming I use a 14 oz t-bone hammer. I rarely use a hammer for demo, as I was taught the trade by old timmers that would ream me out for improperly using my hammer and would make use a small pry or a hillbilly bar as we call it in Chicago. These new hammers are a big improvement over the old stilettos, and I will definitely add them to my collection. To all those people that say you can get a Vaughan hammer for $200 cheaper, while true you definitely are missing the point. These hammers are pricey but they're indispensable for carpenters driving nails day in and day out, and while nothing will ever replace good old hickory for absorbing impact, I'm glad and thankful that Mark Martinez designed a great hammer for us all to be able to ply our trade more comfortably and more efficiently.

I love this hammer. I now have owned both the tbone and now the Martinez. Absolutely love them both. Only thing the stiletto has over Martinez is the open end side puller. Other than that Martinez is the best hammer I have ever owned.
hi, very nice hammer. I am a Irish carpenter working in Ireland and I currently use the vaughan 23oz wooden handle hammer for framing and it's time for a change. I heard the stiletto hammers are the best as they are made from a single piece of titanium which is stronger and lighter than steel. but in this video it seams to me that you recommend a hammer that has a STEEL head not titanium. before I purchase can you recommend which hammer you make that would suit my needs? I prefer a long straight handle 18" but doesn't have to be wooden. I do framing as well as framing work, this might mean I need two separate hammers but you can advice. I have no intention of abusing my hammer such as concrete work. Cheers Dan

I bought the mini for when I was working with stairs and hammering in wedges all day long so I didn’t need the extra reach/drive like the ti-bone offers. So I started Formwork construction, and sure the mini works but I’m always wanting more weight/extra reach on the job site. I was about to buy the 15 oz stiletto until I saw this hammer, so I just purchased this online($300.00 CAD with shipping later)- I can’t wait for to try this hammer out. I’ll let you know how it goes, but I will say..don’t buy the 14 oz mini stiletto if you’re doing heavy construction- you’ll be wanting extra reach but the 14 oz is a great hammer for what it is.
hi Mark, for me one of the strong Benefits of this hammer besides the unique design, lightens and quality is being able to switch out the head should it become worn or damaged as well as changing the type of head altogether to say a ball point or mallet. for me my interest in this hammer besides the inventors high reputation was the ability to us this one hammer as two hammers_ so by simply changing the framing head for framing, to a finish head for furniture projects. however after speaking with Sandra it would appear this is not the case, Sandra has advised me that I can purchase the m 1 with milled or smooth head only for framing but I would need to purchase the m 4 for finish work when it becomes available. given the information from both this video and the emailed information from Sandra I am a bit confused and I hoped you could please clarify. love the hammer.
I like your video but I’m sorry to say this , I still preferred titanium hammers better . There’s a difference between titanium and stainless steel. Especially because of it’s prices . However , titanium handle much more abused test during my procession of it material . I bought 6 titanium hammer from Stiletto , so proud and happy since it’s hasn’t fail me .

I guess my question is why would you use a $200 hammer for demo ? I know you have to plan for every use and I generally use a Stiletto wood handle. I have broken a number of handles doing demo, so I got in the habit of using an Estwing or similar steel hammer for demo, then switch back to the Stiletto for carpentry work. I may try the Martinez, the only question I have on it is length. It seem significantly shorter than the wood handle hammer. I use tennis racket grip on my Stiletto, fairly durable and more cushion than the baseball bat tape I was using. My 2 c.
The Martinez M1 framing hammer is of comparable length to the Estwing 22oz framing hammer. And the Martinez M1 finish hammer is of comparable length to the Dewalt 12 oz High Velocity hammer or the Stiletto 10 oz finish hammer.
Well after snapping 3 different 22 ounce estwings I pulled the trigger on a tibone 15, I still carry a 22 estwing because the slimmer profile is convenient in those tight spots. 95% of my swinging is with my stiletto and I’d never look back
I have had the stelleto ti bone 15 for quite a while and although it is a very good hammer i find that i am continiously tightening the allen bolt that holds my smoothface steel hammerhead on.. I would like to see a permanent head
Who wants a hickory handled hammer that requires a proprietary haft ? You could drill a couple holes in any framing hammer haft, but it's easy to drill a hole off center so you kind of need their proprietary haft and who's to say you'll get one with good grain when there's probably zero chance of being able to buy one in stores and inspect them as you need to do with just about all hafts today. My hammer heads don't come loose on me anyways, I hang them properly and I oil them with blo so they don't dry out. The traditional hanging method used for hundreds of years is perfect, the problem is that people used to know how to care for their tools. I'll keep my Vaughan 999 or 1950's Craftsman hammertooth also produced by Vaughan & Bushnell, a brand new 999 is a fraction of the cost and is flawless.

Do I WANT to make what's basically a car payment for a tool, that, if I take better care of it than I do my Estwing, will last me forever? Even though the Estwing may not be as expertly innovated and engineered, it's still a straightforward, classic, dependable design that's budget-friendly. This is a tough call. A tough call, indeed. nice hammer,,,i might have to give titanium a try again. i bought 2 stillettos when they first came around. i broke a claw off one, and shatterd the second one into like 8 pieces. titanium has super high tencil strength but no durability after scratching the shit out of it

I was striking the top of my 14 inch cats paw. With the hammer HEAD and the CLAW BROKE right off. THIS has happend to me 2 in less than 3 months. For 200 plus hammer idk. Ive owend a stilletto hammer and that never happend to me. Smh over priced hammer

Both models have steel heads so you can strike the same things you would strike with any steel hammer.
