I don’t think 405 natural is insane. I think most people lack dedication, overcomplicate their bench program, and don’t eat enough. Myself and 1 friend of mine were able to hit 405 within 1 year by following a very simple 5x5 bench program.

@@dn3772 I increased my bench from 335lbs to 375lbs in about 1-1.5 months by really focusing on frequency and specificity. I went from benching 2x/week to 5x/week (31 sets total), reduced volume on other lifts to recover better (only 6 sets of back per week for example), and prioritized accessories directly improving my bench (doing more sets of bench instead of chest flies for example). Switching to a gym with proper benches also made a big difference. I tried to give a much more detailed comment, but it kept getting deleted everytime I tried to post it. It's taken me a year to put 10 lbs on my bench because of some pec pain on my right side. I think I've finally gotten rid of it, and 405 might be less than half a year out. Currently at 385 right now with some great training momentum, I'll be maxing out again in about 7 weeks. 405 takes so much dedication to hit, it's unbelievable you can do it at your bodyweight.
405 as a natty is certainly insane and the upper echelon of strength. But 600 is elite basically in all circumstances, so that’s kind of a dumb thing to say

@@shades4313 I think benching 400 naturally is about the same as benching 550-600 enhanced and benching 500 naturally is about the equivalent of benching roughly 650-700 enhanced. There is also a big difference between a sub 220 or even sub 200lbs 405 bench and a 220+ 405 bench. Both are impressive naturally, but a sub 200 is obv much more impressive.

Guys forget that the Silver Era GOATS were putting up similar numbers (sometimes higher) to the elite naturals of today. And I'm nobody special, just look at Marvin Eder for example. That said, we have A LOT more potential. The world isn't ready to see it yet!

Sweet! I haven't been motivated to work on my bench in a while, but I'm getting back into it after a shoulder injury this summer. I hope to be back around 225 after a 12 week block (at 165x7 close grip currently). From there, 315 is probably my long term goal. Perhaps less as a 1rm, but maybe 260-270x6-8. Let's go! 💪
Just hit 405 for a single on the incline for the first time ever then Pinched a nerve on leg day and lost hams and glutes for a few weeks. Now during that time Im fighting getting a flu or something😢 A month or more out the gym I predict. This video is inspiring. I hope I dont lose too much being that I just reached a PR and havent had the chance to do it twice 😢
Just back in the gym after three weeks of pneumonia. My bench went from 200lbs for 6 reps to 200lbs for 3 reps. Muscle memory will kick in I hope I’ll get 225 before we’re halfway through January.
I'm still deciding what to do! I'll probably continue maxing out for a little bit until I get annoyed (already starting to) before cutting down again. I'm realizing that I don't enjoy bulking like I used to even though it works best.

0:41 what do you call that bench-chest-block-pad-thing? My right shoulder gets pain when my shoulder blade gets protracted (pulled back) a little too far. I admit, I can still do flat press, but I have to be EXTRA careful. Incline press requires less protraction and not issue. This pad could be a safety buffer on flat press so I dont accidentally go to far back… even if I reduce a tiny bit of ROM, i think its negligible. Why is Alex using?

How much do you think the weighted dips carry over to bench ? I managed 315 with no bench training my first time trying it. Now ive added weighted push ups to my calisthenics to see if 405 is attainable indirectly.
Well look, sounds like it carries over very high to you. I'd say the total load of a dip is a good predictor of long term bench strength. Having done 255 in the 180s, it makes sense being in the 400s.
Depends on the person. I have a weighted dip total of 300 pounds (bodyweight + plates) for 5-7 reps but I can manage just a triple with 220 pounds because I am not interested in it and therefore not train it.

I’m also pushing for the 405 bench right now. I have hit 375 (170kg) for smooth singles multiple times. Going to try to hit 407.8 (185kg) in 2 weeks.

315 ohp is miles harder than a 405 bench, probably similar to a 500lb bench.
