  • Mes chers mademonsieurs, it is with greatest pride and deepest pleasure that we welcome you to Wonderful World of Darklords! In this episode, we discuss one of the most gothic and atmospheric movies in the Disney canon, which asks us what makes a monster and what makes a man. No, no, not Hunchback, the tonally consistent one. (We promise Hunchback's coming, though!) Subjects discussed include:
    • Why we decided on Gaston as the darklord even though you can make an excellent case for pre-redemption Beast, and how to use Beast as your darklord if you prefer;
    • How to make Belle an active presence in the setting like she deserves, while not letting her steal the story from your PCs;
    • A version of the Beast's castle that preserves its eerie mystique in a D&D context;
    • A curse for Gaston that makes him the real monster in more ways than one;
    • and more!
    And now we invite you to relax, let us pull up a chair, as the Kolars proudly present: Beauty and the Beast!

    You guys did a really wonderful job and i agree the beast as a dark lord is hard... but...
    Here's my two cents for how to run the beast as the dark lord:
    >> BELLE IS ALIVE

    • @felipehenning3395
      @felipehenning3395 28 дней назад

      Please, please make a comment about this idea later?
      'Cause i think it's worth trying to run it.
      ...
      Maybe even make so that both Gaston and the Beast are Dark Lords of their own related and adjacent domains and Belle is just the most recent "Belle" in their story...
      Or maybe Gaston will be cursed and become the next Beast once he is exposed to the villagers... and there will always be another Gaston in the future to fight that new Beast because the true evil is in the village itself (it's the patriarch).
      ...
      But i think werewolf / crippled (depending on the age of your PC's) Belle fighting the man is cool and it can be truly sad because SHE LOVED HIM BACK and now they both hate each other and themselves and you can even make that "they are all monsters now" if you make Belle more violent in her fight against Gaston and the village - make her a full terrorist even if you your PC's like this kind of thing (i don't, i would go: "go and kill them all").
      This can play a lot of drama and even a potential redemption for one or two of those three.
      But not Gaston, fuck that guy.
      ...
      And yes, the dark lord can be defeated in this one, maybe... but i don't like the idea that the dark powers of Ravenloft can't never lose. I think they TRY not losing and they totally cheat and send a level 15 demon with shapeshifting powers to kill the party and ruin everything with lies if they, say, manage to solve the problem - like for example (and this happened) trying to basically do therapy on Strad.
      ...
      But i think it's unfair if they CAN'T lose not even once.
      The dark powers aren't perfect

      And if "the dark powers can lose" mentality leads the PC's to try to do better in the next domain and leads them to a hell of their own creation were they just can't stop adventuring and going to new and strange domains and failing every time...
      ...
      Well...
      That's just Ravenloft
      ...
      And, sorry, hell of a long comment.
      And i needed to edit because of so many ideas i had.
      So, i apologize

      Oh man, I'm sorry I didn't see the follow ups until now. That's a great idea! YOu could specifically have the two guys as co-darklords and locked in a toxic spiral of mutual manhood competition. Having Belle in the woods with no good "guy" is also a good way to make space for the PCs but still have her. I wish we'd thought of that.

      @@WonderfulWorldofDarklord, oh man, "YOu could specifically have the two guys as co-darklords and locked in a toxic spiral of mutual manhood competition" is such a great way of saying.
      It really gets the idea in the smallest number of worlds and expands that idea to be better.
      YES, THAT!
      GIMME THAT!
      Sorry, i'm a non-native english speaker and i ramble a bunch to explain things.
      ...
      Also, i like Belle as an NPC instead of dead because of her love-gone-wrong is great for gothic horror / dark fantasy and it solves the problem of "everyone's a jerk".

    You guys did a great job on this, Beauty and The Beast is one of my family's favorite stories. I really like the one version from The Witcher books called A Grain of Truth. As a writer myself I like to make my own version of the story and hear other people's interpretation. ruclips.net/video/DfNs7hEVIDA/видео.html this is a link to another channel that also came up with a good idea for a dark fantasy story too. Finally, let me share a piece of my own story with you. *The Beast held Gaston over the edge of the castle as Belle and Taran looked on. Gaston cried out in fear begging for his worthless life.* "Please let me go, please don't hurt me, I'll do anything, ANYTHING!" *The Beast hard face softened at those words for he remembered saying them himself one cold winters night long ago.* "I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he had said crying on his knees, "I didn't know, please don't hurt me I'll do anything." *But, the Fey Queen only answered with unforgetting eyes.* Thank you and see you next video.

    I admit I'm disappointed that you didn't take the route of this one RUclipsr called Lydia The bard she makes some original Disney songs but it's as if the princess become villains instead she even writes backgrounds stories in the notes section or whatever it's called. Anyway I was kind of hoping you would do what she did and make Bell the dark lord

      I'm going to be honest, neither of us thought of that! It would solve our "Belle is the PC" problem. Since the episode aired I have run into Lydia the Bard on youtube, and I really like her Princess and the Frog one!
