Hi! Just a quick question, how much of the work of your potencial Ph.D. advisor are you expected to know and understand before contacting them? Am I supposed to reference any of their work in an opening email, or can I just simply ask them about their research interests and availability to advise Ph.D. students?
Hi! No, you don’t need to reference their work in your email. You just need to have a general idea of their research interests based on looking at their recent papers. And in your email, you can ask about their research plans for the next few years and if they admit PhD students
