      I’ve been listening to a lot of AIC lately. I think sunshine is 1 of my fav songs. The vibe is so cool how it’s like sunshine chorus slows down and the I don’t care no more like you step out in the sunlight and all the problems in the world disappear. It has such a genuine feel. Too bad he passed atleast he did put out a ton of music and I do like the new version of AIC.

    Layne death was literally opposite of Kurt's. The line "its better to burn out than to fade away". Kurt burned out and Layne faded away. They are both extremely sad in different ways.

Piercing through his door was the music of Alice in Chains. I was taken back quickly to a time when the music ruled me. Alice in Chains will live on. Thanks for the memories.

    Nancy McCallum's quote is horrifying in the most honest and heartbreaking way. It almost seems like Layne had literally shrunk away into nothing. Nobody noticed he was missing for two weeks. At least Cobain and Cornell were mourned globally when they passed but Layne slipped away so quietly it seemed nobody noticed. the first person to notice was his banker only because there was no activity in his bank account. That's the most depressing thing about this; his money was the only thing keeping him tethered to Earth cause everyone had forgotten him as a person. This is what makes his death the most tragic and sad of the the Grunge Movement (IMHO).

    • @danny355
      @danny355 3 года назад +38

      That's not really how I remember it. People still cared about AIC and fans constantly talked about them and their hopes the band would one day get going again. Certain people close to Layne, like his friends and family would be in contact with him, but he was so reclusive and isolated, he wasn't picking up the phone, or opening the door, except to seemingly a handful of people. If that's your day to day life, your accountant might be the first to ring the alarm. I'm sure his dealer must have feared the worst long before the accountant, but your drug dealer isn't exactly going to call 911. Such a tragic end. Even Kurt also laid dead for 2 or 3 days before anyone found him.

      @@nonameman7114 Seattle police had stated in their reports that upon realizing that it was Layne and not a mannequin on the couch that his body was in such a severe state of decomposition that his skin had a dark and leathery appearance to it, I could imagine the smell perforating throughout his apartment must have been unimaginable, I don't know how his cat Sadie was still alive for the 2 weeks Layne went unfound, police had stated that although Layne's cat was so frightened from them kicking the door in (April,19th 02) that afterward it was hesitant to approach people; it was only starving, I don't know how his mom who was there could have recovered(if at all) from seeing all of that, forget his rockstar status, this was her son, a friend to many people in his life, a relative in his family and a brother to his bandmates, the only casualty from Layne's death that I can really think of is Mike Starr, he never got over Layne's death, forget the fact about how he stormed out of Layne's apartment and blacked out from benzo's for 2 weeks afterward, The fact that he could have done something are the demons that ultimately got him in the end, an overwhelming guilt he could never escape no matter how many years rolled by or how many prescription drugs he abused, personally I am agnostic but would like to believe that some place or somewhere he, Layne, Demri and everyone they all knew in their circle or lives that are since dead are all reunited in a place far beyond our understanding, heaven is only a concept to me, not a reality, but when you see pictures of all of them together or even just Layne and Demri you can't help but feel a pain in your chest for what became of them, staring at a curtain picture of layne and demri on another youtube video(Layne and Demri Part 2)before their shared addiction's consumed them both; on my computer screen while drinking glass after glass of whiskey in silence out of feeling so bad for them; just observing this picture of them both when they were still full of life and happy together, honestly i could only feel a deep pain in my chest out of pity and grief, Demri was very beautiful from pictures you can find anywhere on the internet, what happened to the both of them they didn't deserve at all, the real tragedy of it all is if Layne and Demri had just left Seattle and didn't come back they wouldn't of still had contact with all their dealers and drug buddie's, they could of had a fresh start, a second chance, Layne had said this to Mark Lanagen who came to Layne's place to be there for him the day he was told the news of his ex-fiance's death, that he had all the money and resources to leave but never did, THAT is probably, in my opinion, the kind of guilt that destroyed whatever was left of him inside, because after that there were no longer any reasons for him to kick himself off heroin, there was nothing keeping him here anymore, no more reasons, nothing and no advice, friends or all the love in the world could have stopped him from going down the path he went after Demri's death, how much he loved her he just stopped caring and was going to die no matter what anyone did in the end regardless

I have my own interpretation I can relate to for myself but also one for Layne. Which I gave to it before I found out Jerry wrote it. I believe Layne had a spiritual mission and so did he think, said a bandmember from mad season. It made me give the interpretation of down in a hole to Layne that he was stuck and split between his worldly physical life and his life as a person with spiritual mission. sorry if it’s a bit vague but don’t feel like further explaining for now. It comes down to we can all have our own interpretations to a song, down in a hole is absolutely hauntingly beautiful, Layne was an absolutely beautiful and intriguing person with a spiritual mission. Yeah I was about to say. Looking at how bad UFC fighters like Max Holloway or Conor McGregor at featherweight (145lb) on the scale, there's no way Layne would've been 80lb.

      People said he was about 100 pounds at most so no. He really was skinny fron not eating. You ever seen a crack head or meth head up close. The really bad ones look like they just escaped Auschwitz. He was a crackhead through and through he also covered in oozing infections as well.

    @Daniel, hey I just wanted to say thank you so much. I’m 28 an have been listening to Alice In Chains since I was 10yrs old which was givin to me from my dad. But my point is you have given me and everyone else such comfort especially finding out the small details which are my FAVORITE but if you could find his closest friends and find out their stories with him would be more than amazing like it just means so much to me to find out everything about Layne. He’s older but he’s like my older brother and I’m the oldest of 3 so that feeling is great but please I’m begging you Daniel it would be the best, and what happened to the book Layne was talking about on Rockline that he was writing for 5 years??? I’d kill for that book. But thanks again you’re the best

    This is such a good video. Seeing the area Layne lived in makes me so sad. It's industrial and unfriendly feeling. I couldn't live some place like that. And someone with mental health issues and depression like Layne shouldn't have lived there. I need grass and trees. Birds and flowers. To see God's hands in all creation. Concrete and empty spaces make me sad. Poor Layne. He really struggled.
    I pray he's with our Heavenly Father now at peace and smiling. 🙏💞

    I just recently started learning about his life. I was confused about how he was so thin cause he had money. People with money doing heroin will still eat, the reason a lot of addicts look so skinny is because they choose to use what money they have on dope and if they have any change left then they'll eat. This is the first time hearing that he was doing speedballs at the end which completely makes sense then as to why he was so frail. Good coverage, a lot of other videos didn't mention that
