Jackson's version is a masterpiece. The score, the set pieces, the costumes and makeup, the massive scope, the diverse creatures and locations of the island, the motion capture, the acting. They dont make movies like this anymore, this was hollywood firing on all cylinders. 10/10

For me, the most terrifying part of the 2005 King Kong movie was the natives. The film does a great job at showing that they could be just as dangerous as the monsters on Skull Island. That scene where they quietly throw a spear through one of the crewmen’s chests right in front of Naomi Watts’ character was haunting.

am I the only one that understands that King Kong (2005) was a remake of the original and that Kong: Skull Island is actually a reboot. They have totally different stories. Skull Island took out the beauty and the beast angle, the tribe wasn't making sacrifices to Kong in the form of brides. Not really fair to compare the two movies. King Kong is a complete story, Skull Island is only part of a story. Both are good , but, the 1933 version is the best of all however, always will be.

Peter Jackson’s King Kong was the same exact thing we have seen before. ‘’Kong: Skull Island’’ is something different. Kong’s parents died when he was just a baby. 2017 Kong sits by the place where his parents died and looks into the sky as he sees the beautiful neon light colour. And that is also how you make a perfect Kong.

King Kong 2005, while it has it flaws, feels like a complete and utter love letter to the original. Peter Jackson(the original is his favorite movie ever)really poured his heart and soul into every aspect. The New York setting, Skull island, its natives and creatures all feel amazing and totally realized. When you finally get to the island it truly feels like it could be a lost world. There was such a good buildup and the characters weren't just stand ins. King Kong feels like a perfect adventure movie, its emotional, its pays homage to the original and I think the creators would honestly be proud. It feels like a true epic just like when I saw fellowship of the ring. It has its flaws but I think it's a masterpiece.
Kong skull island is a genre film. I "liked" the film but it was so utterly forgettable. Honestly the characters remind me of suicide squad. A bunch of characters get thrown into a story but I didn't care about any of them(except John C Reilly). They are completely one dimensional. I really liked the 70's setting and the look of Kong is cool. The cinematography is cool and there are some amazing shots. But I never felt like Skull island was a real place at all that was compelling. The natives were boring, the main "threat" didn't seem like much of a threat at all. I didn't ever get the sense that Kong was a god or that I should be rooting for him. The movie honestly feels like it exists solely for his introduction into the Godzilla universe. Which is okay, but I need MORE than that in my film. I need compelling characters. I need to be emotionally invested in Kong to care about him down the line. That didn't happen here at all. I don't hate the film or anything but that's my opinion. I'm going to now watch the video and see if I agree lol. We might have a completely different perspective.

i agree 157% with you that Peter Jackson's King Kong (2005) is far better than Kong Skull Island (2017) and you gave alot of reasons why its better because of its action scenes, story, Kong himself, the conclusion and the musical score from my point of view, i just recently watched the 2017 film and i felt like, wow that has to be by far the WORST monster film i have ever seen in my entire life, and by the way who would look that clean after spending god knows how many days they where on that island, i honestly feel from my perspective that whoever wrote and directed this film and from my point of view i feel like they tried to make this 2017 film better than the 2005 version and just for laughs it clearly failed with a capital F, myself as a person i've never been a fan of re-boots or remakes or whatever you can call them, but despite the 2005 version being a remake it really is an amazing and fascinating movie in its own right, the only re-boots i really love love would be Rise of the planet of the apes (2011) Dawn of the planet of the apes (2014) War for the planet of the apes (2017) and Karate Kid (2010) but not as much as the 1984 film.

I agree that the Jackson's characters are much better but your point about the 2017 movie being on human side is absolutely ridiculous and nonsensical. 1.Characters are not bombing an uncharted island just for fun. They clearly state that those are scientific devices.
2.Kong:Skull Island evidently does not endorse american interventionism. The movie punishes it. In some ways it plays out like the Avatar. But Skull Island does it even better because unlike Avatar where humans are villains that we should not empathize with Skull Island doesn't villainize any of the sides. It shows both sides' perspectives. The whole theme of the movie is "We don't belong here". The trailer song is called " We've gotta get out of this place". Even one of the main characters says :" You don't go into someone's house and start dropping bombs unless you are picking a fight."

I agree with everything you say aside from the soundtrack, because the two are not comparable: King Kong's s OST is a full orchestra-played instrumental 3h-long score mostly aiming to set the mood for the scenes; Skull Island's is also thought to blend in with and help set the movie' "historical" setting - that's why it contains a couple of rock songs from the '70s. They're two very different types of soundtrack, because the starting idea was different, so imo they can't really be compared.
Also, don't mean to offend....but don't you think your opinions might not be entirely objective because of the strong impact Peter Jackson's King Kong had on your child's mind?

This is a good review but there are two major points of contention I have with it:
    (1) The portrayal of American armed forces
    (2) The actions scenes
So about Hollywood's portrayal of the American military... I think you have things a little backwards. Americans are NOT given some sort of pass for being imperialistic and destructive, and if there is a double standard between America's actions and those of other cultures as depicted in most movies, it is a double standard that works AGAINST America. Avatar was not "Avant guard" for portraying American forces as bullies with an itchy trigger finger and zero sense of responsibility; it was actually a very stereotypical depiction of the military created entirely by people who don't understand international conflict, diplomacy, or even the ability to make a cost benefit analysis. In short, Hollywood is both ignorant of, and venomous towards the military in general, but none more so than the American Military, who will ALWAYS be depicted as violent aggressors with no nuance to speak of. Hollywood kind of hates the country that has fostered them since their inception.
The action scenes... were laughably bad throughout most of the Peter Jackson King Kong. I know I know, apostasy, but lets get real for a moment; everything that happens on Skull Island in the Jackson version looks like it could have been clipped out of an episode of The Flinstones. The dinosaurs look HORRIBLE, the humans appear to be floating in front of characters from a hanna barbera cartoon, and that fight with the three T-Rexes... MY GOD! That fight deserves a special place in hell! Long after Happy Days jumped the shark, but many years before Indiana Jones 4 nuked the fridge, Kong "fought the Rex". That whole scene was laughably ridiculous the second you realize the amount of trouble even one Rex is willing to go through to eat a woman who amounts to a single chicken nugget... it burned more calories in the chase than she ever could have replenished, but it only goes down hill from there. Did I say down hill? I meant DOWN MOUNTAIN. Yes, all three Rexes continued fighting down the side of a mountain all the while snapping at the woman who, as aforementioned, amounted to the nutritional value of a chicken nugget to their massive bodies... come to think of it, were they going to share the meager bit of meat clinging to her thighs, or throw down with each other after falling off a mountain and battling Kong to the death? Maybe Peter Jackson should have tried watching animal planet to see how predators in the wild really relate to one another. Most fights are strategically avoided unless there is something significant to gain... hope that nugget was worth it all!

Good video, I would agree that as a film overall Peter Jackson's King Kong is the better of the two. Better human characters, better story. However I think it's not really fair to compare the two movies, because outside of the fact that both movies have Kong, the natives, and that Kong is the last of his kind, these movies are different from one another. One difference is that Skull island is pretty much the main setting in Skull island, where as in Peter Jackson King Kong, you have two main settings New York and Skull island. Another difference is the time setting One is set out during the 1930s, while the other is set out during the Vietnam War. In other words, one movie is a true remake (Peter Jackson King Kong), while the other one is true reboot. But like I said earlier, I do agree that Peter Jackson King Kong is the better film overall, but I will say that I liked the Kong from Skull Island the best because he's is AWESOME.

I mostly agree. Skull Island has many references to other movies (esp Apocalypse Now), which depending on your point of view, makes for either entertaining "homages" or shameless scene rip offs. Most of them gave me a chuckle, but the sword fighting scene pushed it too far for my tastes. King Kong is actually a love story cleverly wrapped in an action flick so men don't notice. The 30's original was probably the ultimate date movie at the time.

Alright I actually kind of like both movies to be honest I mean sure King Kong 2005 it had the original story but that was the problem with me it was just the same story over and over again Kong Skull Island tried to do something different and I'm really excited for Godzilla vs King Kong and the other monsterverse movies after that Godzilla vs. Kong I like Jack Black from 2005 but I also like John Goodman and Samuel Jackson in Skull Island I mean sure people might call them forgettable but the first time I watch it it was fun I mean to be fair I think the reason why they didn't show Godzilla that much in the 2014 movie because in the original movies he did take his time I love the monsters in both movies the V Rex the giant insects from 2005 but I also like the skull Crawlers and the skier Buffalo Andover roll and I kind of like Skull Island with it's action and trying to connect to the monsterverse and there are a lot of problems in 2005 and Skull Island but overall I like them both and that's my opinion and that's all it is have a nice day sir

2005: A slow well thought time taken to flesh out, tragic story of a misunderstood ape lord.
2017: a "lets get this over with and focus on making this movie setup the next" generic monster action flick.

Sometimes, all you need is a generic monster flick. But that varies from person to person. I agree with you.

In my honest opinion, I don't like "Kong: Skull Island" on the exact same level as Peter Jackson's film, but I do enjoy it as it's own thing (starring Kong, of course).
