Guys you'd be extremely surprised just how ordinary Her Majesty was when it came to her food. Every morning she had a bowl of cold cereal and her favorite dessert was a chocolate cake. And when she used to travel she'd take the cake with her and would have a piece every day until it was gone. She was really just a normal woman and very funny. I'm American but she was the only Queen in my lifetime and I would have given anything to have met her just once. I had nothing but love and affection and admiration for her. I miss seeing her smile which I thought was so beautiful. She was so beautiful when young and even more so in her older years. Rest in peace Your Majesty.

So many people assume the British Royals are posh and only eat posh foods but they would be surprised how down to earth most of them are, don't get me wrong there are one or two who think their 💩 don't stink but most don't (when I was a kid I was part of a dance troup and we were once performing Infront of princess Anne and she actually made a huge point of coming into the crowd and mixing with them, she even made a point of chatting to my nan who was wheelchair bound and asked if she could see the stage properly and she stayed and chatted to her for a while, it was something that my nan always thought of and said that considering she was a princess she was so so down to earth 💖)

US Biscuits are a different texture to scones. And they’re eaten with gravy and as a savoury side. Whereas scones are primarily sweet and served with jam and clotted cream. You can get cheese scones but they’re not the norm

Scones are the closest thing to what Americans call biscuits & I'm also a Brit, so you being one doesn't mean you're right lmao.
For the guy wanting to know more; Google Yorkshire puddings. They're a delicacy & go well with gravy. Our gravy is also brown & usually meat flavoured, not light grey/beige & lumpy. We have fries & chips, here. Chips are big, lardy & all different shapes & sizes. Fries are uniform & thin, like McDonald's. A cookie is a type of biscuit. There are many different types - Bourbon, ginger biscuit, custard creams etc.

I always find it interesting (and a bit confusing) in the differences between our countries. Our biscuits are soft, doughy and usually a bit buttery. I've had some that are a bit tasteless and dry which is why it pairs well with gravy.

In the UK, most of our pies are savoury, like pork pies, chicken & mushroom, beer & onion, steak & kidney, Shepherd's pie...
Our scones are usually sweet & the most similar to your "biscuits". Our gravy is brown & usually meat flavoured, not grey/beige & lumpy. Gravy goes well with Yorkshire puddings, which are like soft/crispy batter, I think. They're shaped like cups, so you can fill them with gravy.

  • @Pesthauch666
    @Pesthauch666 2 года назад +10

3:54: Beside the brand name, bisquits like that generally are called Spekulatius (it's even printed on the package "Butter Spekulatius"), typical christmas food with lots of spices. It's very popular in germany, but AFAIK it's from the netherlands and belgium. I prefer dipping it in my coffee.
5:00: These "Zimtsterne" or literal "Cinnamon stars" are also a very christmas themed kind of bisquits. I'm not a huge fan. But I guess it has something to do that when I ate them back in my childhood they weren't really that soft but rather hard, sometimes hard as a rock. Either because my parents held them back for too long before christmas when our relatives "in the west" send gift packets (Westpakete - west packages) during the year to us to the at the time communist east or the east german variants were just shit back in the time.
7:29: "Kunterbunt" just describes something being Motley or general "motleyness" of things or some kind of potpourri. Hard to translate, since I don't know the etymology of the word "kunter" (maybe from contra?) but "bunt" is just something being colorful or varied. And the first try in pronouncing it was pretty accurate btw.
11:33: beside the branding this, in general it is indeed commonly known as "essbares Papier" or edible paper. I've seen some people from the west parts of germany being all nostalgic about this type of edible paper, since it reminds them of their childhood. But I personally never experienced anything like that in the east before the wall came down.
14:33: Nothing regal about that, "Riegel" just means bar as in chocolate bar.

Fried potatoes that you'd eat with a steak or burger = Chips or Fries
Thin and crispy slivers of potato you get in a bag = Crisps
Sweet flour-based, unleavened baked food product, usually crunchy = Biscuits
A specific type of biscuit, usually with chunks of chocolate or fruit in, can be hard or soft = Cookies (but you can still refer to them as a biscuit)
The closest thing we have to American biscuits are called Scones. Traditionally they are sweet and served as part of Cream Tea (Scones, jam, clotted cream - very thick, spreadable cream - and a pot of tea), but we do have savoury versions with cheese and herbs inside.

I just think most of American foods, especially sweets can be extremely sweet or just bland.
    Do a sweet tooth comparison!!!!

A third of those were not even cookies/biskits 😅
The Hanuta bar is amazing though, i agree. If you like that one try to get your hands on a Knoppers bar (or Riegel). Almost as good, or maybe even better? Definitely similar and comes in different flavours too

I call cookies cookies and biscuits biscuits 😂 it's complicated. I love to bit two ends off a club bar and drink abit of my tea through it like a straw and then eat the melted biscuit it's so good.

In the UK fries and chips are different, chips are cut thicker then fries. Chips are kind of a cross between fries and potatoe wedges.

Esspapier is made for children, you won't see many adults eating it. It translates to "edible paper". I liked it as a kid since it was fun to eat "paper" for some reason. It's like those gummy sweets shaped as burgers, pizza, etc. Not THAT good but fun for a kid. Although I did like the light taste (you have to let it melt on your tongue and pray that it doesn't get stuck on your palate), just preferred apple over strawberry. I think Americans are used to way stronger artificial flavors than we are, what might be the reason you can barely taste it. But still.. we didn't want it as kids because of the taste I'm sure. 🙂
Cam, you're pronunciation of "kunterbunt (a hell of a lot of colours 😄)" was on point. And funny thing about Milka: the chocolate is awesome, but when it comes to all the cake and cookie stuff I always think "I expected more". To me it's always drier than expected, not as chocolate-y and kinda overly sweet. Oh and we eat our cookies with milk, coffee or tea. Not a cookie person, but when I eat them I eat them with milk most of the time or coffee. Not a tea person either.
