  • A musical parody of "Steam" by Peter Gabriel, all about Microsoft Teams. And various other remote working and online communication tools. But mostly Teams.
Music: "Steam" by Peter Gabriel. Copyright © 1993 Peter Gabriel Ltd.
    Lyrics by Dylan Beattie.
Performed and produced by Dylan Beattie.
    LYRICS:
    Forget Slack,
    Forget Slack,
Company meeting, everybody's out of sync,
    I'm trying to join,
clicking on, clicking on this link, this link
    Is it Teams,
'cos I don't feel like I can deal,
With all the broken login schemes,
The UI is gonna make you scream,
You know your Discords from your Slacks,
You know your email from your fax,
You remember IRC, NNTP and Jabber too,
You know your Jitsi from your Meet,
    Your virtual background's pretty neat,
When all the other tools are down, there's always gather.town, and ICQ
You know your way around online,
You know your Hopin from your PINE,
You know the time in Amsterdam, Seattle, Milan, and Timbuktu
    You speak at virtual events,
    Can't even see your audience,
It's like you're talking to the void, it'll leave you paranoid and feeling blue,
    Everybody Facetime, Telegram, Signal, Chime,
Webcam, microphone, Sat at home, all alone,
Zoom, shake, head ache, find a way to stay awake,
Seven hours without a break, This is more than I can take!
    We're working in Teams, baby,
Yeah we're working in Teams, around here now,
Yeah, we're living in the future
    And believing all the hype,
    Just don't ask any questions
    About what happened to Skype,
    We’re shipping all our features
    Got to hit that milestone,
    Gotta keep talking, talking, talking
but no-one's talking on the phone,
    We're on Teams, baby,
We're running on Teams around here now...
    On 365
    On 365
    Just gimme some Teams

Yesterday I was introduced to one of Dylan Beattie's parodies by a colleague, this morning I finished them all. So recognizable. Yes, they made us switch to Teams too...

It's incredibly hard to create a chat room, there's no end to end encryption, and it's hard/impossible to do formatting.

I never used Slack or Zoom. But I’m not a fan of teams.
People ask me: “didn’t you get my chat?”
I’m like: “which channel? Have you seen my list of channels that I was member to? I’m 48 so I live by: “if it’s important give me a phone call! If not don’t bother me at all.”
And email at this customer 80-120
Emails a day. I just don’t even read them anymore. Again: “If it’s important tell me in person.” Or you don’t want me to do actual work than I’ll go through your company Stasi propaganda and your 500+ chat messages on teams a day!

My company's setup for some reason involves each person being in two separate Teams organisations (with all the same people, just different channels), and the UI is such that you can only log into one at a time. Nope, you can't start two Teams windows, the app doesn't support that. Instead, the only way to make sure you always get your chats is to have a browser tab open as well as the desktop client...and in a lot of the chats we have the users for each person from each organisation, one labelled as "guest". Wtf.

Every time i log in i check the remember me box. I still couldn't figure out what it does because its not for remembering the user thats for sure. I have a headphone thats connected to my laptop. My surfice book somehow realizes i want to use that and configures itself. Discrod configures itself. God damn skype configures itself. Teams breaks itself and either i speak with the michrophone but the sound comes out of my laptop or the other way around. Its insane how my uni pays microsoft a fortune to srew me. Take me to dinner first or something microsoft please.

I have had calls with people who have had to join with laptop for the video and phone for the audio, signed in with their user accounts from two different organisations (which represent the same group of people in the same real-life organisation, don't ask). Any other configuration and it didn't work.

I had a couple interviews in teams. The first one, the email said I could join through browser, but I couldn't and had to postpone the interview. The other, I couldn't join any calls so I had to host it. I hope I never have to use it again

I love being in the time zone, described by Microsoft (in Windows) as "Sarajevo, Skopje, Warsaw, Zagreb"... For some unknown reasons, Poland is always placed together with the ex-Yugoslavia... But without Belgrade!
At least they no longer show that map from Windows 95, with the whole Poland flooded by the Baltic xD

Yes, it's not bad except you sometimes can't see who's online especially if you are logged in on two computers. Then it sort of supports markdown, except it always breaks formatting. Then you can't navigate in history, you can just search for messages containing specific words, but you don't see context. Screen sharing always start behind chat window, so you may not even notice it. It does not support webp images. These are issues written from top of my head, not a complete list of all bugs and inconveniences.
