I love everything about Raye. Lately I’ve been really enjoying watching her direct/signal her band as she performs. She isn’t just standing there singing notes on paper. And she’s not just improvising. She’s completely in control, such a musician. It’s a glorious thing

Hey A-Aron, I'm so happy you finally got to RAYE, I'm one of those fallen angels who have suggested her repeatedly in your comments, have been following AJ for years like no other, but ever since I discovered RAYE I'm hooked on her. No need to do comparisons or even ridiculous moral measurement, it's true, this woman has been through A LOT, but she clearly came through victorious and triumphant, now being able to lay it all down. Clean. And as you said: She's a next level musician, you should see her do "Feeling Good", just her on a grand piano, singing her heart out. I never heard her play / sing a song the same way twice. Most urgent to-do's: Medley at Brit Awards (took home six of them, they are still in the box...), Oscar Winning Tears live at Royal Albert Hall, Genesis MV & live, Tiny Desk Concert, Saturday Night Live, Mary Jane live at Coachella, Genesis part iii live recording session, her Kate Bush Cover... and then some older stuff, "All Dressed Up" (acoustic)..."Natalie Don't" (stripped)...Yesterday someone uploaded a full hour live of her first ever appearance in Japan at Fuji Rock, the biggest outdoor festival of the country... Breathtaking! Unfortunately the video was taken down again due to copyright (I was able to watch the full set), at the moment there's one song up from that set, but that may change, so I don't recommend it right now... She been touring a lot recently, Latin America, Europe, Hungary, Malta, Jazz festivals in Umbria and Montreux and North Sea Jazz as seen here. And I think she's bound for a bunch of GRAMMY's soon, recently she was featured on the channel of The Recording Acadamy / GRAMMYs, talking about the importance of her notebook in the creative process... That speaks volumes, doesn't it? Did I say one of the Brit Awards she won was "Best Songwriter" (another first for a woman at the Brits...), she's been writing for Beyoncé, John Legend and the likes for about a decade, being held down by Polydor... Two years ago she broke free, and the rest is herstory. Last bit of info: She released her debut album in two versions, studio (My 21st Century Blues) and a completely insane live version recorded at Royal Albert Hall with orchestra and choir (My 21st Century Symphony), the above mentioned "Oscar Winning Tears" is the opener for that album, unfortunately the other videos can only be watched on BBC inside the UK (except for one, but that's more a great behind the scenes over the live recording...) Anyway you should react to every single song on that album, the audios are available on YT & Spotify... Very much looking forward to this journey, I love your reactions to Diana Ankudinova and Jordan and have seen this one, so I already know this will be an incredible pleasurable ride... Peace and love from Bavaria!

And all of the mentioned are great humans as well, people with a passion for music and authenticity, friendly and lovely people... And RAYE is definitely a top notch artist, fascinating musician, brilliant songwriter and wonderful human being as well, and tbh, since I discovered her months ago I'm primarily looking out for new RAYE content... some AJ in between, mostly reactions to older stuff, I don't like Toby's music, though I will say Back To Black with Aurélien was great, best thing I've heard from her in a while... I think, just like RAYE, AJ would thrive if she could get to constantly work with a bunch of pro musicians who really understand what she wants, and go on tour with her ... RAYE's band, as A-Aron mentioned, are really tight and playful and creative and it's always a real pleasure to watch them create something bigger together, well, I'm derailing and getting lost... What I wanted to say: How could you not love her, actually I've wondered if AJ ever saw her perform and knows some of her music - as AJ loves Amy, and RAYE loves Amy, and both are constantly being compared to Amy... my guess is, AJ would love RAYE, and knowing her story, would get VERY mad at anyone letting down on her... jm2c... Not at all like Dimash. I've been following AJ for years, closely, and Dimash doesn't do much for me tbh, whereas RAYE easily drew 90 % of my listening time from AJ to herself. Most of all Raye's song writing is far beyond Angelina's capabilities at this point, that may change when AJ gains some life experience, but it will take her 5-10 years at least to be able to write like RAYE does...jm5c
@@tomwhite4736 I'm ambivalent about that: from a humanitarian point of view clearly God beware, from an artistic point of view she needs to suffer some at least, to be able to get really deep... Anyway, from a Buddhist's point of view I'm confident: Living is suffering anyway, sooner or later, more or less... Not saying AJ is free of that, we know the impact of the loss of her grandpa on her, we've heard "Million Miles" live in Norway, and more shit will happen inevitably... But yes, at least it seems AJ was able to grow up to 18 without major sexual assaults, it seems, whereas the atrocities started hitting RAYE when she was seven... Anyway, it's part of her story now and has made her a very fucking brave strong woman with some extraordinary emotional depth...
@@Hundhammer This is my first time hearing RAYE. My comment is based on this song only. I don’t know her story, nor her song writing. To me, this was all about her and not the song. With Angelina it’s always the other way round.
Raye is a bit of a narcissist with this song. At no point did I hear a story being told. James Brown and Angelina told the story. Raye, like Dimash, make it about themselves.
I don't disagree but that was a FANTASTIC AS HELLLLLLL performance. I enjoyed it ridiculously. It was music. It was pizazz. And she owned. Regardless, respect
I agree that it could be construed as semi-inauthentic narcissistic vocal pyrotechnics... Dimash I've always not been touched at all, but Raye 'dear Lord' is truly a Goddess. Her authentics are bonafide similarly to AJs Grandma Mery tutelage of the jazz-soul catalog... Raye has that deep same pedigree. Most of all Raye's song writing is far beyond Angelina's capabilities at this point, that may change when AJ gains some life experience, but it will take her 5-10 years at least to be able to write like RAYE does...jm5c
@@HundhammerHopefully Angelina never has to experience what Raye went through .
@@tomwhite4736 Amen to that
@@tomwhite4736 I'm ambivalent about that: from a humanitarian point of view clearly God beware, from an artistic point of view she needs to suffer some at least, to be able to get really deep...
In other words, when she sings you HEAR the truth of the greats coming through a modern gutsy-independent genius artist's filter. 🤯 🌹 Cheers 🍻
