    A Dick Gaughan protoge, not an easy feat. Brilliant, maybe even better than ol' Dick. Kudos to Jamie. Thanks for posting this.

    Very haunting cover. You have a bit of that old Muscle Shoals blues twang in your playing. Love it. If only my attempts to cover this could be even a half this good...

      Much appreciated. It's funny how these things work out. I was playing for about 4 hours this day and this just happened to be the song that I was about to play when the guy and his partner asked if they could film me. Glad you enjoyed it.

      The other Erin Go Bragh that Hamish Imlach recorded is a different song entirely. It’s sometimes referred to as “the row in the town” and has completely different lyrics

      It's an old traditional song. My version uses the traditional lyrics but doesn't sound much like the melody as sung by anyone else - so you might have heard it sometime but I might have rendered it unrecognisable!

      Thank you, I appreciate the thoughtful comment. This version has evolved over time from singing it for many years without listening to any other, more traditional, versions. I recently rediscovered Gaughan's version and realised I was singing a totally different tune - I love how he does it though. I guess this has basically become my own melody and guitar part with traditional lyrics. Glad you enjoyed it!

    • @dangurney8107
      @dangurney8107 4 года назад

      @@jamiesongbook Ah, no worries. I'd assumed some sort of link with Gaughan's version because he's the only person I'd heard pronounce the "Bragh" in that way before. However it evolved it's a great version!

    There used to be some songs on this channel that are gone now. For example your cover of No Gods And Precious Few Heroes by Dick Gaughan. Did you take them down? I come back to your covers every now and then and was sad to see them gone. Been listening for years

    • @jamiesongbook
      @jamiesongbook  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Jonathan, think a couple of the songs you're talking about are back up now. Songs may come and go from sight on here depending on how I'm feeling about them but they won't be permanently deleted and probably as my perspective changes most will resurface. Hopefully on my death bed I'll get the chance to just make everything public - all the most embarrassing, cringe-worthy videos from over the years available for everyone to add abusive comments to, forever.

      Nah the guy in the song Duncan Campbell says he calls himself erin-go-bragh so he's referring to himself. Also it's
      Alba gu bràth since it would be in scottish gaelic not irish

    • @ezraromer05
      @ezraromer05 10 дней назад

      Look into the history behind the song and you’ll find its about a scottish highlander accused by police of being an irishman sent away frlm the country (who had a stereotype of being lawbreakers) and he tries to explain that he isnt irish but that he admires them regardless of the negative stereotype

      I do agree but the guy in the song is a Scottish Irish and fled Ireland to his home Country and going to the Highlands where Irish and Scottish people are safe for the most part. Which is weird cause he’s a canbell

    • @Neilweemuck
      @Neilweemuck Год назад +1

      @@loganparker180 No he is not Scottish irish. Listen to the words. He comes frae Argyll. The Edinburgh polis thought he was irish he literally tells him he is not.
