    Yes it was expensive but I had faith it was as amazing as I had heard so I bought one. Having used it for a while now, there aren't too many tools I have for reloading that I wouldn't be willing to give up or replace but this is one of them. This is the ultimate in case trimming, chamfering and deburring and I can almost guarantee you'll never go back once you try it. I have him use an old barrel and he basically reams it and threads it just like a die. Polish it out with some steel wool on a bronze brush chucked up in a drill. I swear by them now and won't touch the factory collets anymore.

    John with the speed of the blade cutting the brass for chamfering and deburing is there any chattering on the brass?

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  4 года назад +1

      As long as you have it set correctly there’s zero chattering. But you have to make sure the mouths are round. If you have one out of round you’ll feel it real quick.

    I can not get consistent COAL lengths with this trimmer. I assume the length from the shoulder to the case mouth is consistent, so I assume the length from the base to the shoulder datum is different for each case even though it is going thru the same full length resized die. Any help would be appreciated

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  10 месяцев назад

      Yes if set up correctly and using the right insert it will trim consistency from shoulder to case mouth. Base to shoulder can vary depending on your process, dies and press.

    Hey John --- Did you consider the Henderson Gen 2 case trimmer? I'm down to purchasing either it or the Giraud. I'm leaning toward the Giruad since it references off the shoulder vs the base, however, I would bet the Henderson is a lot less fatiguing on the hand. Your thoughts?

    • @FClassJohn

    Nice little demo, been wanting to get this for a while as I have a RCBS 3 way case trimmer atm and it doesn't do a good job at trimming cases at all. The mouth of the case is all wobbly and not flat and precise. The portion of the video where you talk about some guy taking out the play in the fitting is this something you could do for me as well if I bought it? I wouldn't even know how to describe what to do if I brought it somewhere..Thanks,chris

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  4 года назад

      Thank you. It’s definitely worth the money of trimming is important to you. As far as the piece I had made I can’t make them. I just asked my gunsmith to use my chamber reamer to make a 7/8-14 die basically. If you end up getting one I can help you better explain what you need but it’s actually really simple for any qualified gunsmith to make.

      F-Class John Hello John! I have a 338 lapua and I’m definitely considering buying this. I would like to do what you did, will I have to get a barrel and reamer? And cut the barrel? My gun is a Christensen arms. Trying to figure how to go about this because I don’t like the play it has with the spring system. Thank You!

    • @pleal1
      @pleal1 4 года назад

      Or buy just a piece of quality steel tube and reamer, and my gunsmith can ream it to make a die?

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  4 года назад +1

      Just ask your gunsmith if he has any section barrel and just have him use your same reamer to make it. It’s not that hard and any decent gunsmith should have scrap barrel around.

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  4 года назад +1

      And it’s just a standard die thread for him to cut on the outside.

  • @johnharris-pn5vy

    Can you use the same cutting head without changing position for a 6.5 cm and 6.5 prc ?

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  2 года назад +1

      As long as your neck diameter is the same between the two, then yes. You'll need a different insert for the actual brass but the cutter itself should be good.

    I want to give that scrap barrel trick a go. The spring loaded collet is something I do not like about this. So, I would just have a gunsmith ream it like he was cutting the chamber on a complete barrel? Also, would you just cut the scrap barrel to the same length as the Giraud collet?

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  4 года назад +1

      Exactly and just thread it 7/8-14 like a die.

      @@FClassJohn Any chance your gunsmith would be willing to do any more of these? I am a couple and a half hours away from a gunsmith and am going to have to do this through email and phone. I'd just as soon have someone do it that has already done it before. If not, no problem.

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  4 года назад +1

      I can ask him but I probably won’t see him for a little while and he’s a couple hours away from me. What I can recommend in the meantime is you can actually pop out the retainer ring at the top of your collet and then pull out the insert and remove the spring that’s in there. This will almost do the same thing and will at least let you try it to see if you like it.

      So sorry for the typo. Trimming brass

    • @ShastaBean
      @ShastaBean 10 месяцев назад

      You have to trim because the brass is stretched & grows in length when you re-size.
      If you check out specs for a particular caliber, you'll find "case-length", i.e., .308 is 2.015 in.
      And so "trim-to length" is often down to ~ 2.0050. Typically is ~ .0010" under max case length.
      When you re-size it, if it then measures 2.1175, then you have to trim it to be able to chamber & cycle the round
