Hey Mazzy, buckled in for the ride, I always loved the Frieda song. Townsend, Clash , X all great . Plasmatics I would first see on the show Friday's and it was jaw dropping for a 14 year VK. So awesome you seen them live. Amazing there was not a book like that great idea and putting it together. You didn't touch on the metal side of 1982 but if you included that and look at all the music that came out 1982 could be in the top biggest years in music releases. Great job enjoyed hearing your stories thank you for sharing !! -Cheers -VK

Hi Mazzy. Great stuff and I like your memories of vinyl as a junkie most of all. Waw, the year 82, what a good memories for me too. I was sixteen studying at school and I began to be a collector of records with my money I warned from small but legal businesses 😎. I missed Yazoo, America, Hall & Oates, Dream Syndicate, Graham Parker, well but it's your choice. Nice to see you as always. Take care y un abrazo desde Madrid

Oh this really brings back memories. I had just graduated college and was working as a teacher in London. It was a very exciting time for music in UK: dance clubs like the Camden Palace (a theatre converted into a multi-level rave) were taking off, and in smaller joints world music was starting to make its influence felt. I had discovered King Crimson via Discipline and loved the follow-ups you mention. When touring resumes you MUST go to see them in their current incarnation which is incredible - 3 drummers in front line!! '82 was the time when producer Trevor Horn was getting warmed up with Malcolm McLaren's Duck Rock (1982) and was putting the finishing touches to Frankie Goes to Hollywood's first single, "Relax", which came out in 1983, was banned by the BBC, then took over the world That telltale Fairlight sampling sound was everywhere. Three of Horn's session musicians formed Art Of Noise and their debut album from 1983 was sensational (my vinyl copy still shakes the house). Thanks for all the memories and great stories. Loved the photo montage too.

Without a doubt my favourite line up of King Crimson were those 3 records. The first time I saw Crimson was on the Three Of A Perfect Pair Tour in Toronto. The addition of Belew and Levin was perfect for what Fripp had in mind to update the band from Red. I love all of Crimson but particularly those 3 LP's. Might be a little nostalgic for me as well because it was my High School period and they were coming out as I was expanding all my musical horizons but they stand the test of time without a doubt.

Thanks for this. ‘82 was a huge year for me musically. Every one of these records you showed somehow showed up in my life around that time, and many had a big impact on me, musically, if not in a larger sense. My fave out of all of these is the XTC, though its a tough choice. I really enjoy your videos.

OMG you mentioned Romeo Void, I haven’t heard that name since the 80s. Someone needs to do a Romeo Void video! Okay, maybe not. 82 was such a great year for me as I expanded my musical taste into punk. That is when I learned about the Cramps, Clash, Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers. It was such a great change for me. Plasmatics, lol bought that for the cover art lmao. Very campy. Great to hear O Superman, such a different but cool song. Got to catch my flight so will finish this later. Just got the repress on that talking head album, I have the OG vinyl still. Great year. Steve

1982....indeed what an interesting time in music. We were in the early stages of MTV, when you bands like Men at Work and The Go Go's were on constant airplay, both visually and on radio. In just a few short years, the dominance of MTV would definetely guide how mainstream music was discovered. As always, LOVE your videos! Namaste Maslov !!

Wonderful video, brought back a ton of memories. Saw T-Bone Burnett open for the Clash who opened for the Who at the L.A. Coliseum for the Who's "final tour" around November that year. L.A. Times musical critic Robert Hilburn called "Imperial Bedroom" Elvis Costello's "Sgt. Pepper". Bought "Madness Presents The Rise and Fall" (which includes "Our House") when I saw copies of it at Licorice Pizza in December of that year; only later did I realize that the store had import copies on stock and that album was never released in the U.S (Sire Records dropped the band after their first two records). Started college that summer and only then was I aware of a Mod movement springing up in the city. Got the picture sleeve single of "Steppin Out" from Joe Jackson and posted it on my dorm room. I saw him a year later (don't remember the venue) promoting "Night and Day" - the only member he retained from his original band was the amazing bassist Graham Maby. Marshall Crenshaw opened that show and eventually Graham got a job in his band. "Trans" I taped from a library copy that year or the next and I still listen to it on occasion. Only the last song on that album doesn't feature electronics - and it's the highlight of the album. The album covers helped bring back memories.

Great video. Although The Who's "it's Hard" wasn't a great album, one great song came out of it "Eminence Front" is a classic. Polyphonic did a video about the song. ruclips.net/video/54lzu78INxk/видео.html
What an accomplishment to put out a book, I have friend that's an writer and put out three books, so I know it's hard to write & put out a book & to get recognition.
I know you admitted it that you forgot "Tug Of War"(another one of McCartney's best solo albums) but surprised that it left out of your mind. Donald Fagen's "The Nightfly" should had been Steely Dan album, if Walter weren't going through his personal problems, I think it would had been an amazing album in the Steely Dan catalog. Of course love Joe Jackson's "Stepping Out", that song takes me back to the time of being 13 years old living in New Orleans and dancing around in my room whenever this song came on.

1982. What a year. I left school that year and got my first ever job. So much great music out there. For me 'Setting Sons' was the best Jam album closely followed by All Mod Cons (the latter of which i felt was a homage to Kinks). It's funny that a couple of weeks ago, I made a comment about seeing your picture in my 1982 fest booklet, along with a comment about getting a kiss from Nilsson - and then you do a video which mentions your Nilsson experience at the 1982 fest! I am glad you showed the Nilsson autograph - it looks exactly like mine. I had just assumed that my autograph was from Nilsson but I wasn't 100% sure because it was hard to read. Now I know that it was a Nilsson autograph. Your memories of past years are better than mine - so much is a blur for me.

Pete's Chinese Eyes is his best solo album. You are right. Not a bad song on it. If the Who had done those songs with Roger singing half of them and then include Eminence Front and Athena, The Who would have had a GREAT album rather than It's Hard. Pete's voice doesn't hold up well for an entire album IMO. Roger singing some of these would be awesome.

January 1982 was when there was a huge flood. I had a day off and didn't realize how bad it was and I took off on a record store trip. Mistake! Driving south from Sonoma the situation got worse and worse. 101 in Marin County was underwater and I was almost floating. I couldn't go back because all the roads were closed. Ended up going over the Richmond Bridge and had to drive many miles around to find a way back home. Water everywhere! My friend had his car wash away in Mill Valley. Floated down Miller and wound up at the high school. Quite the storm!
