I'm glad you enjoyed The Forbidden City, too. It's a fantastic scent. For me, the most interesting thing is the combo of the florals, tea and hinoki give an original rich funk in the opening that caught me off-guard. I agree, perfectly unisex because there are notes that lean slightly feminine and other notes that lean masculine, and as it develops it keeps morphing. I don't know that I like it more than Into The Wild, but it's definitely more functional. I give both of them a 9.5 out of 10, and for the price they are absolute bangers. Not blind buy safe, but I don't think anything is blind buy safe, lol. On the other hand, I blind bought both of them... Into the Wild because of the rave reviews and listed notes, and The Forbidden City, because Into the Wild was so good.

Also, based on your description, The Forbidden City smells nothing like Indigo Smoke. That fragrance is a very smoky tea with prominent woods and spices (namely cinnamon). Fruity-floral is nowhere near an accurate description of that one. I read someone compare Indigo Smoke to barbecue sauce, and once you’ve made that connection you can’t unsmell it 😂 Still pleasant though!
