- First of, my thanks to Alec at the englishelectricmotorco.com for lending me the the Zero SR and FXS. I take out the FXS on a 50 mile commute in London and discover it’s the…….. If you need to talk about electric motorcycles, then talk to the guys at The English Electric Motor Company, they are experts on this subject.

haha nice one.

Filtering and splitting with speed feels way safer than being in traffic surrounded by hideous SUVs with texting morons at the wheel.
He was staying in front of everyone, I believe that's the safest way of traveling on a bike, everyone can see him if he stays in front, to do this he had to drive fast of course.
He rides like a maniac. It’s only a matter of time.
LOFL !! Yup ! Driver makes sooo much sense.

It looks pretty fun, my local dealer has a testbike like this, but the big problem is, even the 125cc version of this already costs 12-13000euros lol... That's crazy money, you do get some kind of discount since you can deduct it from your taxes etc in my country, but still if you compare that with a normal 125cc who costs just 4000euros on average, well that's very costy... Also I prefer real engine sound, mainly for safety too cuz with this thing no one hears you coming, a lot of idiots still on the road, both cars or pedestrians who aren't looking around and will only see you if they hear you...
Zero FXS given ^^
I can feel the acceleration even on my phone.
Ashish Negi true lol I don't see the same with other bikes tho don't know why is it really that fast?
Shu Electric motors have more torque, so can deliver their power better. Unlike an ICE, electric motors can deliver 100% of the power immediately.
@@shu7927 My local dealer has this testbike, and he says you can't compare it to a normal 125cc, this would be more like a 600... But for that price it should be, lmao... I also prefer the real engine sound, mainly to be protected against idiots on the road who aren't watching out...
You have a weird phone man
My phone just took off... it leget flew away from the acceleration.
I tell you what, there's something very hypnotic and relaxing about that sound after a while. I think the increased ambient noise brings something too.
Exactly and if you ride an electric bike the quietness is even nicer
It sounds wonderful to me.
ASMR.
why do electrics make this sound.. can't they be completely silent?
@@no22sill against regulations. All electric vehicles must have a sound to warn pedestrians.
I love that little warbly sound when it accelerates, sounds soo futuristic
Think I'd feel like I was in Blade Runner with this bike
4:44 - 5:15 It is actually more entertaining to watch a video where RJ is making engine sounds and whistling. xD
He looks happy :) It's a good sign... :D
Also at 5:42 he just needed to whistle and since all it takes is a whistle sans loud engine sounds, it was enough. xD
Oh I loved this video and also the way that orange biker was curious, following RJ to a lot of distance. :D
Just blipping the throttle for warning/attention doesn't work anymore. Could install a clutchhandle that makes engine noise ;)
I thought there is a bike behind him xD
"lowkey" 🤦♂️
Edit: they took it out of comment

most people are delusional. commuting in a car because you're afraid of crashing a bike is the equivalent of taking boxing classes because you're afraid of getting mugged: you'll be getting your brains bashed around on a regular basis so you might be ready for some hypothetical scenario that might or might not happen.
Who knew RJ whistled whilst riding
Never was able to hear that with his bikes 4:44 - 5:24
I commute 42 miles a day in & out of London 22 days a month. Commuting puts a heavy strain on my bike. I'm fed up with constantly servicing my chain, oil changes & services every 4 months, 1 clutch change and lastly the latest fuel price hikes. Even still I'd never get on public transport for love the freedom and to be disease free.
This bike is exactly what I'm looking for. Just booked a demo. Thanks RJ.
Anthony Taggart I agree, except for the disease part...wtf lol!
Raytown Missouri Lol, as I haven't evolved to deal with crammed train commuter bacteria and viruses, I always get severely Ill whenever I spend a few days or more getting in and out on the trains. People on them seem to built and immunity to sneezing, coughing and sputtering over each other.
Bro you need to start drinking black seed oil everyday. You'll never be ill. Look into it. I've been taking it for 4 years and haven't had a cold or fever since.
Also causes everything to heal faster. I had an accident on Saturday which ended in my bike trapping my ankle and was extremely painful, I was shouting and swearing in pain and my whole foot was blue. It was fine by Wednesday.

One gear and lots of torque . No combustion engine can beat an electric in acceleration and through the city acceleration is what counts . Great video RJ .
ABCD ABCD no they cant the fastest electric bike in the world is faster than any ice car or bike, and the fastest electric car in the world is also faster than any ice car or bike (obviously providing all vehcles are stock).
Johan, it's just logic dude... On a gas bike, you gotta wait for the throttle to open, fuel to be injected, fuel to burn, turbo to spin, and on and on, then you get your power. when you twist on an electric bike, all your power is there immediately. Now in a top speed battle, electric isn't there yet, but IN THE CITY where acceleration is key, you can't beat an electric.
Oh I see, you didn't mention him specifically so I didn't realize.
UhHuh, electric motors aren't instant either. There's only so much current you can draw from the battery pack before it goes up in flames so that's one limit... You have to wait for the motor to start rotating before you can get useful power out of it. You can definitely feel it in the bike as you go from zero accelerator input to max.
And besides that, electric motors have a sweet spot just like combustion engines have. But since there's no gearing, a lot of transmission losses are gone and since you don't have to shift ever you have constant acceleration all the way to top speed.
Harlie C nothing i like is here yet. I don't a skinny super moto's or a 211 mph superbike. How about a midsized adventure bike. Probably looking at £21k for that though. I bet the range could even be good
I had the chance to work in London for 5 weeks around 2010. Your video reminds me how this city is so fantastic. And what a nice ride, a real treat. Thanks for sharing.
7.14 Idiot on a scooter....but what a great bike RJ. Had a Tesla over a weekend and was staggered by the instant power of that. Electric vehicles are the future, just need prices to drop.
And battery technology to progress.
My commute currently is from Reading to London, I think as soon as I get the chance to live a bit closer I will DEFINITELY be getting one of these. Bikers to save the planet :-)
AYYOFLOCKA the planet will be fine, it's us who will be fu** ed with no air to breath.
Save ourselves, earth will restart when we are extinct
I agree with that! I test rode one - absolutely amazing, the torque, nipping through traffic has never been as good as this - it's the best. 100%!!!
The way he dials in the power. Stunning control over bike
Was wondering if the lack of sound would make you bored and you'd start making your own. I laughed out loud with the vrooms and the whistling. Nice to see a good sense of humor. Keep these excellent videos coming sir.
Like a Bat Out of Hell ;)
Like a bat out of hell I’ll be out out out of charge
I'd recommend you to try custom mode with torque and top speed set to maximum and high / maximum engine brake. For commuting that helps a lot with the stop & go, so you don't have to hit the brakes that hard, but still got the full acceleration. :) I ride a 2015 FX myself in daily commute and love it! :)
Are the lights always on? Just wonder how noticeable on battery life it would be when it's dark.
It sounds like a demon wowwww
No wonder with this plate: AYI8 DVL (All You Imit8 is DVL) !!
I've been eyeing that bike for some time now, my 25 years old XT 600E needs a replacement. I've watched some of your videos before and know that you have quite some experience with bikes in the city, so this video pretty much seals the deal for me. Thanks!
It's so nice to see RJ ride places we don't see often ! loved it !!
Nice shot of an old cortina. Saw one with a 302 v8 back in the 80s and it went like hell.
It was I believe a corsair cortina ….I noticed it as well
The acceleration looks good . Don't be in such a hurry ! It's better to be late than to not reach at all.
Well played. I enjoyed that nearly as much as you did.
Sidenote-- you have near flawless commuting skills.
It's so good i just watched a 20m motovlog with 0 petrol engine sound and it felt amazing !! Great Bike, Great Video
If it's good for RJ it's THE FUTURE for all of us ⛽❌. 🔌✔ More manufacturers,More competition👍
These electric motorcycles are like ASMR in videos. Sleep inducing sound.
This is so satisfying to watch. And that sound, so nice.
I got my full Akra System installed the other day on my bike. Goes from a 4, 2,1 with a carbon fibre tip and full titanium. Not insanely loud as im a cb650 so naked and a honda, known to be quite but it adds that extra bit of growl to it and personally the best part is I can actually hear an exhaust note instead of just my engine revving. Also 100% makes the bike, carbon tip matches the bits of carbon trim the bike has near the fuel tank. Now just to get some better levers, mirrors and a windshield for travel.
Still my favorite zero so far.
And i have tested them all : O
The thing I missed most on the FXS was the interaction with people from revving to comunicate with other bikes or nice cars. But People did ask is that electric though. My other gripe was range since I do all highway. But its a great city bike if you dont get on the highway at all. Or if you have a consistent 9-5 and can charge at work. But even then you wont be able to ride out with your buddies after work and ride for 5 hours. All ya can really do it ride back home because it will take too long to charge back up. I love the bike but they need to get the batteries to be lighter, charge faster, last longer, and lastly come down on price.
There may come a time where you can change your (almost?) empty battery for a full one at a gas station, just as you fill your tank with gas now.
The Harley Livewire solves these problems because it comes with built in DC charging which gives you 140km with 1 hour of charging, and 80% of that with 40 minutes of charging. Its a serious problem the range limitation, but driving for 2 hours then taking a 40minute break to charge up at a charge station isn't quite as bad, say for a 500km trip, just make 40 minute stops every 2 hours or so.
What a tidy little Bike! Great to see more Electric Bikes!
You're livin in the future man!! What a ride, wow.
The sound it makes reminds me of the Jetsons.
Ha Ha!! Now I can't get that out of my head!
Man, is those sound comes from the future? What a future-evil-electric sound 😈😈😈
reminds me of the movie back to the future
Excellent review and demo RJ, this really is EVolution in action.
I made my own 1kW ebike and love riding it so much it's like I never want to arrive.
Simply the best way of getting around a city - clean, green and mean and the fuel is effectively free, especially when you can charge it from home with solar panels.
Brilliant! A pleasure to watch your video as usual but this one is especially intriguing to me. Have been wondering just what the Zero FXS is all about and now I certainly know.
Thanks
Hahaa! You made your own motor sound XD
LOL 😂 i got confused and was checking for another biker 😂😂
I do this on my 125 more regularly than I'd like to admit :3
Azurren lol I have a 50cc...
The lack of noise & cost to purchase is my real reservation. As a technology & future of the "motorcycle" it's a no brainer. Electric is the key.
Try an electric bicycle - the powerful kind, not the grandma transport vehicle kind. They're more available(to try) than the Zero, and it offers about the same taste, just slightly less torque.
You'll quickly find that you forget about the lack of noise as a negative and see it as a huge feature. I love the quietness.
lol
" it's a no brainer " basically insulting the MAKER. About that opinion you just stated , all i can say is There still a lot for you to realize and know that.... a electric transportation tool got a lot of surprise than you imagined, and i dont have problem of what you like/think/use/care PEACE
Yep so true, same here. Can't wait to be able to afford one. No oil, no fumes, tons of torque, etc.
Read that one of these batteries costs $2000.
Also the cheaper version only does about 35 miles of highway speeds.
Maybe in the next 5 to 10 years I'd be tempted.
thhis acceleration sound is such a satisfaction ... eargasm i love ebikes...
Tested the FXE yesterday in Paris. It was the first ride on an electric bike and I was blown away. Best and fastest commuter bike ever! It was hard getting on my new Triumph after!
The lack of typical motorcycle sound is pretty haunting to me
I‘ve also driven other electric motorcycles like the electric KTM and I beg to differ. There is still sound and over time you get to love it
Timo 879855 still too quiet though, loud pipes save lives
Mike Burrows yeah sure. It’s not loud enough for others to hear you but in terms of entertainment and a nice sound for your own satisfaction I believe electric engines suffice
It would seem as technology carries on the world would / is becoming more sanitary and controlled. In the future we wont even be able to manually drive a car and possibly a bike. Autonomous car's will be mandated because they will be much more precise and able to travel at faster rates without mistakes.
It's all good but you're right we need the noise
love this bike!
This is one of the best video tours of London I've seen! please consider doing the same type of videos around famous sights.
Love that sound this bike makes!
I actually like how that bike sounds . So futuristic ..

Wish that was actually possible! Get busy with that invention please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@JEFFQUICKLE9 it's possible

That sound is dope. That instant torque is amazing.
Only Rj can make an electric bike sound so awesome. Listen to it in good quality headphones. Wish they actually sounded like that out loud- people would go nuts!!!
Whistling from inside a closed helmet to try to warn peds.
Honestly, why don't the manufacturers of bikes put some sort of electrically-powered audible warning device where you just press a button, and it makes a loud noise to let people know you are there?
Seems like a real oversight to me.
Yes, I am being sarcastic.
David Carr Audi are creating a new electric Audi R8 and an electric Audi TT and on both vehicles they have special speakers which make a normal engine noise when you're pressing the throttle both cars have their unique noise and that way if people still know when you're there and you can still rev the hell out of it
Almost all electric bikes have some sort of artificial sound, but it's not really that loud. I think a "courtesy horn" could be great for all vehicles, something not as loud as the regular horn, but louder than the speaker sounds. Would be great for warning pedestrians without scaring the shit of them and course them to panic, like an ordinary horn often does
he means a horn...
It will become mandatory that all electrical vehicles will need to make some noise. I don't know exactly what year, but closer to 2020.
No, it will become mandatory that all vehicles will have to give way to crossing pedestrians at any time. Especially now that vehicles will be so silent.
They will also build away pedestrian crossings more and more or forbid vehicular traffic in many places and expand elsewhere.
I also think London in particular needs a four wheeler ban so they can reduce lane widths down to motorcycle sizes and (edit: thusly, because 1 car = 4 motorcycles) quadruple capacity where traffic is still allowed to exist.
Future is so damn close !!
this bike is not the future
Oh jeaah!!!
Bass Booster futer? Dude... what you think futer vomes overnight? We are in the futer I might say we are PROGRESSING
We'll never be in the future. Only the present.
Wow incredible opinion, looking forward to test ride one in Milan! Ciao!
Thank you. I am convinced and hope my wife will be too. I hope to get one soon.
W A N T !
That instant torque must be amazing for passing cars. Still too expensive for me though. I hope the market stabilizes soon and the overpricing stops.
It's not overpriced
@E G NOW it is
Love your vids! These bikes are the future I'm certain of it!
Loving the coverage on these electrics!
Check for insurance quotes first when I tried last year I got a big fat zero from them
All good things tho
Are you young or have a bad driving record?
so sorry, but those audi bangs tho !!!
That was a really interesting video. Looks like it has plenty of poke.
If you work PR for Zero your going to be pretty happy about now. Getting an unreserved thumbs up from RJ is a massive thing.
This filtering was amazing. I can't decide if it's amazing skill or utterly wreckless. Whipping through those gaps and around vehicles was fun to watch. Overtaking slow traffic on a single lane with oncoming traffic was a bit sketchy. But at no point did I see him in any danger. Unlike that scooter in the cycle lane cutting up that audi. My only concern is that none of these drivers heard you coming.
You honestly can’t hear most 125s from inside cars. It’s a myth. Loud pipes don’t help. Most of the sound goes behind you.
@@jrewillis Definitely not a myth, You're clueless. Cars literally get out of your way..
@@CptAngelKGaming I drive cars and a 125 with a very loud exhaust, from my experience it totally depends on the 125, but usually if they have a loud exhaust you can hear them.

Good commuter bike but you will need a second motorcycle for those weekend rides into the country side.
did RJ whistle while riding??
I love the idea I just feel the noise is an important part of commuting where they can hear you before see you!!
Glad you reviewed this. This is what I ride, been commuting on it for just over a year now :D It's as you say - really quite light (at 130 or so kgs) and quite nimble. Not great on highways though. However I would like to say that insuring it is a fucking nightmare, most underwriters won't even quote for it.
10:36 "No petrol 🤣🤣🤣
This bike seems great for someone like RJ who rides in a big congested city, but I don't think it'd work for me. I live 15 miles from the nearest town, so I'd be constantly worried about range while out and about for the day. They look fun as all hell with the instant torque, but I just couldn't live with one until the range is higher.
So wait a few years, that is the point. The tech is evolving so fast now, and the new cells from Tesla hold 50% more charge than the last generation. I think by 2025 we will have a viable 150+ mile per charge model.
Atm the major benefits to stop start city riding is the instant torque and when you are still you use zero power plus at low speeds they are incredibly efficient.
The zero sr/dsr already has 120+ mile combined range. The only prohibitive factor is the price of being an early adopter. Prices will fall with time
This has a 150 mile range, so you would do 30 miles a day going to work and back each day, lets add another 10 just incase so that 40 miles, so you could go a full 3 days (with 30 miles left) without NEEDING to charge but of you got one you could just leave it on charge over night while you sleep and then you would always have charge.
real world range of this bike is closer to 50 miles - the bigger models S/DS around 100. Source: Been riding one for a year.
Reminds me of the Underground...
Nice bike and review RJ.🙂👍🏻
Looks really good.
Thanks a lot for the video.
Since this is an electric bike and has no engine displacement, it therefor doesn’t have a CC, which means it should be available to ride on all bike licenses
Ryan M. The licences are not technically based on CC, they are based on power. Something like 6kw (11hp) for a1, 35kw (49) for a2, and min 40kw (55hp) for A, (full licence), I think the zeros are 60hp. All approx.
My mistake this bike is 33kw, so a2 compliant. They also do a1 bikes as well. The big one is only 45kw or 60hp, but serious torque.
a1 is 11kw. I believe A1 and A2 also have a power to weight ratio limit, but cannot remember off the top of my head
While you were having that tremendous amount of fun, has it ever crossed your mind that you were doing it without contributing to the pollution levels in London, RJ? ; )
After watching this video, all your other bikes look sooooooooooo slow! XD
Actually one of the most informative electric bike vids. London man, sheesh.
WOW - awesome review RJ

Its electric it doesn't need an exhaust
@@R1cePudding Great work Sherlock!
Gotcha
Seems like a great bike. I want one! Nice video.
I rode several of the Zeros last year/year before and they were all very impressive. The FXS however, really stood out, as it was enormous fun on anything but Motorways. Personally, I would always run the Zeros in Custom mode with a max (Sport) power and maximum regen braking set-up. With that set-up, if you are careful with the throttle, you can emulate Eco mode when required, but you always have maximum acceleration when needed (or when you want) ;)
I ride, so this is not a cager rant. That 's pretty risky threading. I can understand the argument for lane-splitting, when done with care, but this guy is a maniac. Cross lane jogging at stops, long forays in to oncoming lanes....with nary a beep of alert. Does Zero really want their name on this?
90% of the time he was riding in the oncoming lane. Is that legal there? First cop in the states seeing you ride like that you would be pulled over...jus sayin..
In uk, yes it is
RJ has been riding like this for years. He's still alive and is also in the top 3 of youtube biker channels, so I don't understand your concern.
