    My dad's a contractor, He used to tell me stories about some of his rich clients that would spend stupid amounts of money on utter garbage just to show off but he also said it was a contractors dream. This man with extractor fans on the outside barbecue area is a prime example. The house itself probably barely has a 100 mil worth of material value but he was charged an added 400mil to finish it because he has more money then brains.

      Dude, EXACTLY. It looks like a commercial property rather than a residence. It has a negative resale value (it still has "value" obviously, but you're gonna take a STEEP nosedive on it) because anyone that can spend 9 digits on a property will want to express their own vision rather than the sloppy seconds of some flashy uninspired douche. I mean, you can't even repurpose it to a resort or a hotel because of zoning laws not to mention those winding private roads can't support the logistics of running a hotel. Sheesh. This whole fiasco is a physical embodiment of a shitty pump and dump crypto coin.

    he doesn’t want to be wasteful but he has 6 elevators, 7 pools that presumably will get heated at some point in the year, if not all year round, 5 or 6 kitchens and industrial-grade extractor fans to use up electricity
    not to mention the huge lawns and putting green that use up a lot of water to maintain. in la. y’know, the place that’s mostly desert.

    • @CeruleanRogue
      @CeruleanRogue 3 года назад +44

      I saw no covers for those pools either, so the water is going to be evaporating like mad and need to constantly be replaced too. The only thing that isn't wasteful in this house is that the way it's set up does look like it could let a nice breeze through - keeping it cool or warm with minimal electrical heating... Which is a blessing because that floorplan and miles of marble flooring would make electrical heating a money sink anyways. This is the kind of house you build when you want to kill your Sims.

    • @tthaas
      @tthaas 3 года назад +23

      The putting surface looked like artificial grass, so there's that.
      The rest, though, I agree totally. 7 water features including a massive pool, on a mountaintop in LA (where it's sunny almost all the time) means a ton of evaporation for the pools, and LA is in a severe drought right now. So not wasteful /s

      The most wasteful thing is using up a giant piece of land to build a giant structure almost no one is going to make any use of in one of the most populated areas on Earth 🌎.

    1. Guy has 7 pools and, admittedly, a kitchen that'll never get used. His idea of sustainability is having fake plants as decor.
    2. This is a neighborhood in L.A., the city with America's worst homeless problem. This home is everything wrong with society. 100k sq ft for one guy. Big time HAIYAA.

Build really large rooms and space then try to position furniture to make it not looks empty, 13 couches around one TV in the lounge room with only 1 couch having a good view of the TV and a random pot plant or decoration in middle of nowhere to break up the space, and only 4 people living in the house.

      Although I guess technically none of the kitchens are being used since the house has isn't being lived in, he just developed/built it and has been struggling to sell it.

    1) It's not always that hazy. It's usually worse.
    2) More and more areas are pushing electricity as the be-all end-all energy source, and neighborhoods are not piped for gas.
    3) Warming drawers are for people who don't time their cooking well. They put things in the warming drawers so they can serve their guests dried out food all at once, instead of freshly prepared in stages. 😜

      You need to change houses just to go from the kitchen to the dining room. You need to switch condos to get to the garden.
      Why does he say the house is warm when he chooses sterile and cold colors ? With materials that are known to be cold being used all over. The garden is also depressing, just grass, nothing like a stylish greenhouse for growing spices, no trees, bushes or flower, he didn't even take some cues from Zeen gardens to create an ambiance of tranquility.
      How does he expect anyone to reach anything in that office, with no practical solution like stairs or a bookshelf stair. Who does he expect to work there, a giraffe ?
      I'm sorry, but building a house at that altitude and doing nothing to take advantage of the beauty of the locale is plain incompetent. A simple one would be to make the pool into an infinity pool, with a cocktail bar island in the middle.
      His kitchen doesn't seem to have practicality in mind. No work surfaces, or easy access to appliance or connectors, no professional oven in this so called luxury kitchen (no artisanal oven in the open kitchen either). Plus just getting from one side of the kitchen to the other is too inconvenient due to the huge surface.
      That house is, in my opinion, a monument to expensive bad taste and lack of imagination.

      We're getting ready to put an addition on our 3 bedroom, 1 bath house. We started off kind of crazy with a second floor, 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a living room and a family room. Then we realized our son will be graduating high school in a few years and it will just be 3 of us left. We cut it down to 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a huge open kitchen/family room (because we love to cook and always do family holidays at our house). I'm much happier having a home that fits us perfectly and saving money for more fun stuff! Seeing this house hurts my soul, thinking how close it is to a city with so many homeless people. Then this guy had the balls to talk about how that ugly sculpture is going to help people in 3rd world countries through art and music?! Dude, help out your own community first! He could have taken. 001% of that $500,000,000 and started a soup kitchen. Or even a tiny bit more to start program that helps those in need find jobs, healthcare and a safe place to stay. We have an induction stove, however it is/was for a very important reason. We replaced the old one a bit over 4 years ago when the old one died, and at the time we had my aunt living with us (she had been living with us for about 18 months by that stage). She had downs syndrome and as such had issues with thermoception and nociception (temperature and pain touch senses). For her safety we decided to get an induction stove as it only heats when appropriate cookware is on it, it cools down quicker than other types of stoves and doesn't have any naked flames. Came in very handy once the dementia started to appear 3 years ago and my aunt started to lose cognitive function and reasoning skills related to safety (such as not to climb a 7 foot tall free-standing cupboard to remove rubbish that she had thrown on top of it when no one else was home).
