      Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The purpose of the 2nd amendment as ruled by the Supreme Court in 1939; ""The Constitution, as originally adopted, granted to the Congress power --
      "To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions". With obvious purpose to assure the continuation and render possible the effectiveness of such forces, the declaration and guarantee of the Second Amendment were made.""
      The difficulty in conveying what Militia is stems from several underlying issues. Going back as far as 1833, Justice Joseph Story notes that "The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic ... yet, though this truth would seem so clear, and the importance of a well regulated militia would seem so undeniable, it cannot be disguised, that among the American people there is a growing indifference to any system of militia discipline..."
      Justice Story goes on to note that the people may very well lose their rights without the structure and Lawful authority of the Militia. While so many claim to know this topic few actually do. Most simply add to the deceit involved, and the eventual loss of the right without the ability to enforce it as the Founders provided.
      "The signification attributed to the term Militia appears from the debates in the Convention, the history and legislation of Colonies and States, and the writings of approved commentators. These show plainly enough that the Militia comprised all males physically capable of acting in concert for the common defense. "A body of citizens enrolled for military discipline." And further, that ordinarily, when called for service these men were expected to appear bearing arms supplied by themselves and of the kind in common use at the time." Is that not the analysis that the court sought to employ in Bruen? Yet, we deny what Militia is according to those who placed in the Constitution as the ONLY recognized authority so stated at Article I, Section 8, Clause 15, "to execute the Laws of the Union..."
      The "individual right theory" is a sham created by so-called pro-2nd organizations for the purpose of collecting contributions and memberships. It has no force of law, creates no office, nor does it impose any duty. It is, in legal contemplation, nothing more than a means of kicking the can down the road until the right is eviscerated and lost. Every state, whose statues I've gone through, contain Militia as able-bodied men between certain ages. Over the years, I've found the true resistance comes from the fact that few want anything to do with serving their communities and country.

      That is the 500 pound gorilla in the room. It is during "states of emergency" the need for self protection becomes the most important. It is during a "state of emergency" that the resources of the police are stretched the thinnest and criminals/gangs and looters will take advantage of the citizenry. An armed citizenry is the best "militia" for backup to law enforcement. The problem here is "is the state of emergency real or imagined" (to suit the agenda of an enemy within). Taking down the power grid is a simple flip of a switch (and nearly impossible to prove - and can be blamed on hackers or an EMP riding on a Chinese balloon) a situation which would induce a "state of emergency". Highly sus. A "backdoor state of emergency" could result in the confiscation of firearms which would take forever to unravel, given the glacial speed at which our court/justice system works, and the high costs of utilizing it. Firearms in circulation are estimated to be over 500 million in the U.S. They couldn't store them in any practical way so they would have to destroy them.

      It is more than that. When you have a constitutional right and that right is taken from you, it is irreparable. You don't need to have something bad happen where you couldn't defend yourself before you can demonstrate a harm. A right that is taken away is a harm.
      This is why it is a misnomer that healthcare is a "right". We have a bunch of "lesser rights" in this country that absolutely can be taken away and they are trying to move the 2A to that category.

    It seems to me I carried 30 round magazines the whole time I served in the Marines, well except when I carried a belt fed machine gun. They've been in "common use" since Vietnam among civilians as well. I don't need a court to know what my neighbors and the general public owns and uses. It's been fifty years and more "they've been in common use. Our forefathers used and carried the same weapons and armament as were used by the British, we threw out in our secession and establishment of our Republic. As part of the "well armed militia" I expect I'd need the equal or better arms than a "rebellious government" I would be facing. John McClain, GySgt, USMC ret.

    Why doesn't the Supreme Court make a ruling stating anything infringing on our rights is illegal and not valid and whomever issues such infringements is subject to jail, fines, removal from government, etc. Honestly it is ridiculous to have to say that but the infringements are happening.

      They actually have stated that any law repugnant to the constitution is void and should be disregarded maybury vs madison (1803) which means all laws that are gun control measures and gun control laws, are null and void it's just not many people have the backbone to disregard what is put in place, because if you had everybody disregarding it and then you have people getting arrested, you can turn around and sue them, and win it's just people don't have the backbone to do it. Which means we need mass noncompliance across every state and county, by every gun owner.

    If the Constitution is the "supreme law of the land" then _“shall not be infringed”_ literally equals no laws may apply... thus rendering the idea of irreparable harm... moot. If the People wanted the 2A to be susceptible to subjective opinions and laws, then the People should use the method prescribed in the Constitution to CHANGE the 2A to include include language that could be subjectively interpreted.

      ​@@Googlywinker"Well regulated" for the Founders meant well trained, well lead and well equipped. Also, it explains why the keeping and bearing of arms "shall not be infringed", not a limit on the keeping and bearing there of.

"militia" = the People (read Madison in Federalist 46), and "regulated" means "functioning"..... not constrained by laws.... read Federalist 46 if you want to know what the 2A is for, it's clearly explained by Madison... _the fella who wrote the 2A_ , and use Websters 1st edition dictionary for the correct context of colonial era language.

      Trump banned bump stocks with the ATF and helped create precedent that allowed the ATF to continue to make new "rules". I don't have a lot of faith that he will be good for the 2a

      That is the 500 pound gorilla in the room. It is during "states of emergency" the need for self protection becomes the most important. It is during a "state of emergency" that the resources of the police are stretched the thinnest and criminals/gangs and looters will take advantage of the citizenry. An armed citizenry is the best "militia" for backup to law enforcement. The problem here is "is the state of emergency real or imagined" (to suit the agenda of an enemy within). Taking down the power grid is a simple flip of a switch (and nearly impossible to prove - and can be blamed on hackers or an EMP riding on a Chinese balloon) a situation which would induce a "state of emergency". Highly sus. A "backdoor state of emergency" could result in the confiscation of firearms which would take forever to unravel, given the glacial speed at which our court/justice system works, and the high costs of utilizing it. Firearms in circulation are estimated to be over 500 million in the U.S. They couldn't store them in any practical way so they would have to destroy them.
