    You should always keep the water cold BEFORE carbonation because the water will hold the carbonation better and it will carbonate more efficiently. It's a simple physics principle.

    Just so folks know: mileage may vary! I charge at least one 1-liter bottle a day (sometimes 2) and my small Soda Stream c02 tank lasts me at least 3 months. Also, the cost of canister exchange here in my NC town is a flat $16. Our local Staples and Target keep them in stock. That being said, the main reason I have a Soda Stream is for convenience and to reduce the waste of single use bottles and cans.

    • @kunjpatel8442
      @kunjpatel8442 11 месяцев назад +9

      This doesn't math up. 1 liter bottle, at least once a day for 3 months. That's a minimum of 90, 1L size bottles. Even if you go by the 840mL fill line, that's a minimum of 75L worth of carbonated water. The company states it does 60L, which I have not gotten close to. The closest I have gotten to is 35 of the 1 L size bottles, which is about 30L of actually carbonated water. What's your hack for getting at least 75L of carbonated water from a single 410g co2 cylinder?

    • @Michele.Stitches
      @Michele.Stitches 10 месяцев назад

      @@kunjpatel8442 Thanks for the math. That makes sense. I can not explain it. I just know I keep tight financial records and this is how often I have been purchasing refills. However, I will say that I have recently started pushing the level 2 carbonation button on my SS (instead of the lowest level) and my latest co2 bottle just gave out last week. This was MUCH more quickly than my usual time frame.

    • @TooMuchTemper
      @TooMuchTemper 10 месяцев назад +6

      16 bucks for a small thing of c02 is ridiculous. You can buy an adapter and fill up a 20oz co2 tank for under 5 bucks at your local sporting goods store. Thats the route i took, ive had the soda stream with the modifications for about 4 years. Id say ive probably saved a few hundred dollars not having to pay that cost for their co2 tanks.

    • @ffsquirrel

      This is useful info. I purchased a new empty CO2 tank but it's hard to find anyone in my area that will fill up an empty tank. They all just do tank swap outs. @@JoshSchlottman The other take-away is this: Visit a gas supplier and tell them exactly what you intend to do. In my case, I am refilling sodastream bottles (not very often, they are a PITA) or small CO2 bottles for use with a sodastream adaptor fitting, so they recommended a SIPHON.
      I have a 20lb cylinder, WITH A SIPHON. This feeds liquid CO2 from the bottom of the big cylinder into the target. You get a better fill, waste less gas, and generally, can all-but empty the liquid from the source bottle.

      but as I am simply exploring this whole process & do not even own a SodaStream at this point, besides seriously requiring visuals for me to understand unfamiliar processes, I'm struggling to follow what you are describing. Any chance you could make a short RUclips video to talk through & show the steps of the way you've found to do this? Maybe you could then comment back here with the video name & your channel name, so that people could find it (Or maybe these folks could pin it here to facilitate the search)? So you're basically using the SodaStream as a regulator. Which is cool. You can also buy a regulator for about $20. So with the CO2 tank and a regulator and a little bit of beverage line you can carbonate empty soda bottles. If you're looking to get into it and you don't already have a SodaStream, I recommend going that route. With a regulator you can also dial up or down how much CO2 you're putting into the bottle to make things more or less fizzy.

    I absolutely love love love my Sodastream. I feel like I get more bottles out of it than you say but I've never really kept track. I use the Sodastream exchange program through the mail. I have 3 co2 bottles so when I have 2 empty I send them back. Yes I have to pay shipping but it's like $7. The stores were always out and I would forget to go so I was always out so I feel the $7 is totally worth it to me.
    Am I saving money? Well who knows. I do know that it doesn't' seem to cost more. But there are some huge upsides beyond money. One I don't have to go to the store all the time and lug a bunch of soda back to my house all the time. The big heavy boxes of canned soda or multiple 2 liters. The aren't clogging up my recycle all the time. And I have such a huge choice of flavor without a lot of room being taken up in my cabnets. I have pepsi, mountain dew, orange soda, lemon lime, and root beer. Not to mention water enhancer flavors.

    I bought a 500ml pump dispenser bottle on Amazon and pump a few squirts into a glass and then add the plain sodastream water into it. No bottle cleaning necessary since it only has plain water in it at all times. I can adjust the strength of the drink by using more or fewer pumps of syrup. For example the Pepsi zero I use 4-5 pumps, for Starry I use 5-6 pumps.

    The difference in the non diet sodas is the sweetener. If you look at the contents, it shows sugar and sucralose as sweeteners. The Pepsi in the store uses either high fructose syrup or regular cane sugar as the sweetener. They are also using inverted sugar, as well.
    A long time ago, I worked at Jack in the Box and we had a way bigger canister for the carbonation. It may have had a device to keep refilling it, as I never remember refilling that bottle. We only refilled the syrup bottles.

    • @dq7143
      @dq7143 6 месяцев назад

      I'm familiar with this controversy. What I learned is that Food Grade, Medical, and welding CO2 gas are usually the same purity. NEVER use CO2 gas designed for paintball guns because it may have lubricant in it. Also, try to find a refill place where they will fill your personal container rather than a place where you have to exchange your personal empty container for their full one.

    I was a long time sodastream user but I moved over to BonneO when it became available. Math was cheaper using citric acid and baking soda. Moved back over to using CO2 canisters in December 2023 with a Ninja and ultrima cosa. I was closely monitoring usage with sodastream and getting 55-58L per 60L canister. I did hear about some people getting half that. I also heard that sodastream purposely sold some canisters half full, calling them “starter tanks”. I always used to get my tanks refilled through a local family who was refilling them at half the cost, and I would always get 55-58L. Now that I’m back into using CO2 canisters, there are many more options rather then using sodastream refills. $9-$12 through multiple mainstream companies that sell their canisters alongside sodastream at the stores (in Canada). I never got into using the 5lb canister method because here food-grade CO2 places are harder to find. Sports stores here don’t do refills and brew shops are hard to find.

    you can modify any version. I gutted mine and put it in a custom housing. I removed the button and replaced it with an electronic valve, so a Arduino could pulse the gas very precisely with a touch screen. I then use a 7 station peristaltic pump to dose the syrup.
