Putting Food Plots on a Farm for the FIRST TIME Ever

  • In my first time attempting a food plot, I head to my permission farm and put in a solid days worth of work. 2.5 hours of manual labor including a rake, leaf blower, and an electric saw leaves me with the solid foundation of a food plot. I test the frost seed method for the first time. Do you guys think this will work? It will be interesting to see the results in a few short months. Like and Subscribe for more hunting content.

    I have always frost seeded my clover and have had great plots from doing so!
    I use the Extreme Blower Products seeder. It looks like a paintball gun hopper and it attaches to the tube of your leaf blower. It has a "gate" for adjusting the seed flow rate.
    I am able to seed an acre of ground in less than ten minutes using this seeder.
    I jump in my SXS, with the leaf blower in my lap and drive around my plot with the leaf blower running at idle speed. It takes more time filling the hopper than it does to put the seed out!

    I've been doing plots for over 20 years. In regards to 1st year clover, I've had great success overseeding year 1, before a snow. I recommend atleast 2X seed rate. Also be sure to fertilize with Potash when you can and lime won't hurt either. It looks like a killer spot.

    Nice job for your first plot. The issue you will have is those weeds that get 10 feet tall will overtake the clover. It's best to frost seed when you had a bare plot leading into winter a previous plot of brassica that died off. Good work, it's trial and error. Talk to Bill about what I said.

    • @ethan_stubbs
      @ethan_stubbs  6 месяцев назад +1

      Absolutely. If nothing else, I may be able to get my hands on a tiller and a drill and plant a fall plot down there. With it laying east to west, I think I will get enough sunlight to the soil to grow brassicas at least.

    • @CentralMississippiWhitetail

      You’ll be good. You can do two rounds of Cleth if need be for grass and Butyrac 200 for broadleaves. Also fill in the gaps with cheap berseem which comes up very quick. In the end you have a great white clover stand
